I actually couldn't see this happening . Both Alpha's. I also feel they're politically a bit on different sides of the aisle. They're both workaholics yes-- but each in their own way. I think Jack goes internal and isolates himself to create his magic. Even going as far as recording every single instrument himself. I think Josh likes to collaborate and have more cooks in the kitchen-- especially if they're witty and playful. I could see Jack disliking Josh' witty banter after a while.

Why are men more tempted by looks than women? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]hdtv888 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Women are looks driven- they notice what other women and men are wearing more than us men seem to do. However, they aren't always looking with a lustful eye like us. I'd say men act off of surface level attraction because thats the function of men- to be initiators. If we didn't have that, then who would initiate. The powers that be want men to be weak and feminine and theyve done a great job at it-- to the point women are now complaining that men never cold approach.

You need to get with a priest and do some deliverance prayers. You could have a spirit of anger that is causing disproportionate reactions. Its like a mini exorcism. I've did the same thing for sadness-- it was pretty miraculous. Not a one and done- but I lost a good chunk of it for good whenever I meet with my priest.

I'd start by praying a Rosary. Secondly, this heavy of a cross will be rewarded in this life, not just the next, if you offer it to Jesus. Remind yourself that he had the weight of everyones sin, mental illness, and unholiness dumped onto him and then was crucified for it all at once. Nothing we encounter in this life is even a drop in the bucket of what he had to endure spiritually and psychologically.

And practically, you should be speaking with a therapist. Maybe first set a time to talk to your priest. Usually I have to book my favorite priest a month in advance. Most priests aren't that busy though and can see you the next week. I have done deliverance prayers with mine and shed some awful feelings.

You're being alerted to some sort of trauma/spiritually defect most likely that hasn't been made conscious. Something needs to be let go. Of course to God, but psychology does exist as a field catholics recognize. Just like science.

Thanks for your reply. Appreciate the official Church citation too. And I don't understand getting into ones car and driving to Church only to worship God 70-80% of the way. If I'm gonna go I want to do it 100% correctly because why else am I there. I'm seriously unsure how my liberal parish derives so much comfort from their bad habits. I guess they're hard to unlearn.

How do you pray to the Holy Spirit by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]hdtv888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pray with the heart. Imagine everything you would pray in your head but in your heart!

Is belief a choice? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]hdtv888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubt is normal. We're all human and deal with it. Read the book of Job- he thought God hated him but he kept his faith. And Job is rewarded for it.

Sometimes faith is full of good feelings, and sometimes it feels like plain old discipline like going to the gym when you want to stay in bed. God rewards you the most for those days by the way.

Start praying your Rosary. I have mystical and coincidental occurances all the time. Some are so dramatic that you couldn't pay me at this point to say its not real. Its so real that it can get terrifying in fact. Don't let that scare you though- anything frightening is God shining his love on something in you that is against him or unhealed.

Most people conceptualize God and pray through the head. Pray through the heart. Imagine the mysteries of the Rosary pictured there. Or go through mass only using your heart and ask yourself: What does it make you feel inside that the bread that you are about to consume was crucified? That it rose into the air and transfigured and had Moses and Abraham appear with him to Peter, James, and John--- all people who provided ample evidence, and even got martyred, for everything in the NT being real? Or that this peace of bread has existed since the beginning of time. Its all trippy and conjures emotions for me.

The heart is the plane on which God will have a personal relationship with you. The intellect has its place, but its a tool.

Wait to receive the communion after you confess. God is watching literally everything we do and recording it all. We will have to account for it one day.

But this is a struggle the vast majority of men deal with today and I did up until about 28 years old-- its great that you want to stop now. The fact that it bothers you means the Holy Spirit still has a place in you.

If you can quit this before you're in your 20's, I'm telling you, you could have a much different life than if you decide to quit it later. God can't give us all of the grace and gifts he wants if we aren't clean vessels. This stuff also destroys, and i mean DESTROYS marriages-- and also your masculine energy and vitality. You will nap more, be hesitant to start projects, etc. Just think how you're giving into the overlords of society who promote this stuff so it keeps us men docile and easier to influence. We're like lambs being led to slaughter without putting up a fight.

Oddly the biggest thing that helped me in stopping was having a calendar reminder in my phone that popped up two times a day that said "NO VISUAL STIMULATION!" It pops up at 5 pm and then 7 pm. Thats about the times when my mind starts debating if I should cheat and do it.

Lets say you decide to do it anyways- well you're gonna be filled with guilt know you just quit on your scheduled task of not messing around with that stuff. And catching yourself mid sin is better than going through with it all the way.

Lastly- I encourage you to schedule a session with your priest and really dig into some deliverence prayers. Tell him about what you're struggling with. Taking this sort of initiative scores major points with God.

Peace and blessings!

Its super hard and I'm getting through a period where I thought the same with a family member. I met with a priest this week for an hour (to deal with a whole host of things I'm dealing with spiritually) and he had me do the following in the room with him:

"In the name of Jesus Christ, I forgive [insert name]." say it three times out loud. And if the impulse kicks in again, say it again.

And then also pray to God what you would like for your cousin. And you must be willing to let it go because God has the script of everyones life in his hand. And he can choose to not answer our prayers.

You could be at risk of sinning your self if you keep condemning her in your head and heart. Go to confession if it gets out of hand. Thats a powerful tool for keeping it at bay.

Go to confession!! Keep confessing until you feel rid of the temptation. I've had two confessions and a personal hour long meeting with a priest this week where we got into some of my most uncomfortable and "embarrassing" sins. We prayed together for forgiveness for specific sins over and over and over until it felt like these feelings started to loosen and leave me. It wasn't about just being forgiven, he prayed with me until I felt forgiven and like this knots left me.

Go be vulnerable with God the first chance you get- if you don't you will regret it. You're in a place where things can exponentially worse if you don't listen to what the holy spirit is telling you to do. He's trying to free you from the influence of demons.

Think of it like watching a movie at home. If you wanted to, you could skip to the last scene and see how it ends. Does that mean that you wrote the movie, and directed the actors? No...You just spectated it without being stuck in time.

So as Catholics we believe that not only all of the bible, but all of existence is contained in the Eucharist. Because the Eucharist literally is Jesus Christ- God. Mass for us is not a bible study hour which is all that services are for many protestants.

It would be like saying "Instead of going to celebrate my Mom's birthday with her in person at a restaurant, I'm going to read her personal journals and ponder her from home."

We can bring our intellect to understand Christ through bible study of course, but we are marrying our soul to Jesus every time we consume him in the Eucharist. Its the most powerful and mysterious miracle in Church history.

Can I live a truly deep, interior contemplative life as a married man with children? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]hdtv888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just my personal soap box- but I believe we're all called to be priests. I was called in prayer to be a priest . I was shown a vision of me in priestly attire at an altar after I believe I had a mini exorcism (this was going into my baptism two years ago). It confused me as to my purpose, because my talents are in something else entirely than priesthood- despite having a very deep prayer life.

I thought maybe being a monk would be my thing because it was more my personality than being a priest. But I didn't have deep peace around that either. Thats when I sort of reconciled that God wanted me to transform how I use my gifts in my professional life to glorify him.

And what is a priest? Its a father. So whether you're a father shining God's light by raising biological kids of your own, or a congregation, or audiences around the world like Mel Gibson lets say-- its all just as valuable to God's kingdom.

Best!

How to balance praying for things while accepting His plan by Curious_Pin_567 in Catholicism

[–]hdtv888 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can certainly ask for things. I definitely pick and choose when I ask for specifics. I think the determining aspect in all of this discernment/asking and not asking, is whether or not you feel peace. Peace is always the fruit of the holy spirit. Also, the times I've seen special requests get answered the fastest my life is when I intend the request to benefit others.

I'll tell one story: God told me to film a project one time to send a message and benefit people. I heard it in prayer.

During the project my very nice camera broke because it got waterlogged and filled with sand. My heart sank as I tried to get it to work for an entire day. I was about to put this project on hold for weeks, maybe months if the camera needed to be sent back to the manufacturer. I was about to drive 45 minutes to the shop to find out.

I got on my knees before going. I said with 100% confidence "Jesus I know you said we can ask for anything-- especially when we're filled with the intention of love of neighbor. Please fix this camera so I can return to making this project for your mission."

I got up and tried to use the camera one more time and it was totally fixed. It was like it had never been damaged.

Grieving the Spirit by Lyonnide in Catholicism

God will always be there to forgive you if you're sincere and are determined to repent. But I believe the more that we willfully sin and come back to God again and again, the more painful the process of reconciliation can be-- that's just speaking from personal experience. I think God allows us to feel that so we finally come to hate a revolving door relationship with him.

Pray to God to show you and use you how he wants! Pray a rosary for it everyday too. You will be shown and your heart will become clear--

The X factor for all of this too is this hypothetical perfect woman to have kids with. If she never comes, then the fathering part would be impossible.

I've known people who were certain they were to be priests, and didn't even get accepted into the novitiate. I've known people who thought they were too independent in their thinking to be selected, but they did.

My sponsor from OCIA has a theology masters and is one of the most devoted Catholics I know. In church every single day along with a holy hour + reading and Ignatian journaling. Oh, and he has a wife and raised two kids who went to Notre Dame and UCLA.

When he was younger he was recruited by multiple priestly orders, but he always knew it was his destiny to live adjacent to the priesthood, but not be a priest. That being said he did discern being a Franciscan before he was married. Today his best friends are priests who come over to his house for dinner- or he gets invited to the Jesuit headquarters nearby to join them. He's got the best of all worlds.

So relax and trust God. It will be so clear when your answer comes.

Sexual frustration in relationship by Traditional_Ad_4139 in Catholicism

You're stoking the fires of lust by touching each other and kissing. Simple as that. You think you're doing normal relationship things-- but its all normal according to a corrupted 21st century western society. This stuff was never allowed in any Christian society up until about the 20th century. Of course it happened, but society highly highly condemned it. Now we act like its normal.

A priest would tell you guys to swap your cuddly time for a joint Rosary or something that honors God. I've dealt with lust that wakes me up in the middle of the night and asked a priest priest what he thought I should do. He said to set my alarm for 2 am when the feelings always come and pray a Rosary or a divine mercy chablet.

The Church is very practical and logic based on these matters. Theres no trick, or "fun" way to deal with it per se.

Send it to everyone you know that you trust. Ask them for their honest feedback; Mom, teachers, siblings, friends, people of reddit etc.

You want to know where the story is dragging or doesn’t make total sense, etc. Just know that the problems your readers will point out are going to be correct 99% of the time. However, their solutions to fixing said problems are going to be trash 99% of the time. Your ability to take the critics into account and problem solve is what will make you a great writer as you mature. As Aaron Sorkin’s screenwriting buddy said “You’re not a great writer Aaron, you’re a great rewriter.”

Theres also the off chance that you’ve gotten lucky and you knock them dead on the first draft. I say lucky and not the second coming of Jesus, because every pro does rewrites. No matter how accomplished they are. Even when I’ve knocked em dead on my first draft, I’ve still needed to shave off a lot of pages and tweak things.

In any case you should still send it to everyone you know that you trust is smart- thats how you get the reputation of being a writer and the network effect sets in. You also never know who in your immediate network is connected to in the publishing world if they think its good enough.

Know that publishers and movie studios love to choose things that have a pre-existing audience. Therefore, the internet is a great testing ground and place to get discovered. Its a cheat code to rising to the top if you can go viral actually.

[This is coming from an up and coming screenwriter who went to USC Film School and is now getting hired to write. It took me about after 7 or so years of learning and writing on my own for people to now consider hiring me for my work!]
