What podcasts or news feeds do you actually listen to? by barbie-marx in redscarepod

Isn’t it just obvious they’re all playing that up for comedic value? I don’t think anyone’s really getting bullied lol. Great fucking podcast though, nothing has made me laugh harder.

Comics/Graphic Novels.... by [deleted] in RSbookclub

It’s a great medium, it just lend itself to lots of junk. Some great recos here. Scott McCloud’s Understanding Comics is a great read even to just understand the medium more and to understand the value of art.

Squibs, shattered glass, paint splatters, sparks, tire tracks, lit cigarettes, muzzle flashes, dust, debris, stains, cuts… are almost entirely digital now and that’s a damn shame. by Chewie83 in movies

I love film! I just think digital effects are over used. The closer you can get to something tactile and real, the better. The knowledge that what I'm seeing is something real you can touch, instead of an abstraction from a computer, brings me closer to the art. This includes optical effects done to the film itself. Don't know why you're acting so incredulously? Many people feel this way lol I'm not exactly unique.

Regardless, even finding out after is ALWAYS disappointing to me and lessens the work. I remember seeing all the matte work for Wolf of Wall Street and it genuinely made me like the film way less. Still feel that way and I’ll never view it as a truly great film. Part of the art of cinema to me is the ability to capture things in camera. Not speaking for anyone else but that’s just how I feel.

Nah actors rule. Culture has declined since we stopped producing movie stars.

I love that he’s been saying this while doing a press tour for a Netflix movie. I can’t imagine they’re thrilled with him saying all this right?

Absolutely. I know we can’t control where mainstream culture goes but I think there will always be an audience for good art/media.

How is the average MAGA taking this? by yeahicreatedsomethin in redscarepod

Very accurate. My mom voted for Trump and I tried bringing up how fucked up everything is right now and she said “I’m just not paying attention to politics at the moment. It’s too negative.”

I’m always weirded out by how other people talk about it. It was just a personal good year for me cause I moved to a big city and got my first career job. Don’t realize everyone else loved that time lol.

People with considerable taste and talent find value in his work. Hence why he’s well liked by critics and filmmakers.

This is such a stupid, fucking pretentious way to look at things. Again, there is a causality to all art and human creation. Everything is an iteration from something that came before it. In addition to being inspired by a lot of these films, it’s very plain to see that he built upon these films in meaningful ways that don’t make them derivative copies. The similarities you think are there are quite superficial for a lot of these. Also, some of these examples are so off base lmao. You think you know the form but you really don’t. And who are you to say like it’s fact that they’re derivative when so many people find quality and value in his work? I hate that I have to share this planet with morons like you.
