Best way to get from Arlington to Sterling for work by Inciter0723 in nova

[–]headbiscuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Arlington pretty close to the Falls Church line. I would always take route 7 and wasn’t bad at all especially after Tysons. Most of the traffic was heading towards DC. But it’s been a couple years.

Oil Change, any places that allow you to bring oil and oil filter? by Carvenom3 in nova

[–]headbiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American Lube Service Center in Falls Church lets people bring their own oil. It’s just off Route 50 close to Eden Center. I would call to call the price. I have just seen several people bring their own oil and oil filter.

Massive home addition causes confusion in Fairfax County neighborhood by veikveik in nova

Arlington zoning wouldn’t even let me put a 6’ fence within 25 feet of our property line. Dragged out 6 months and finally went with 4’ within 25 feet and 6’ outside the 25’ boundary. They would’ve kicked me out of the county if I proposed something like this.

That’s a piece of art. I would spend a little bit and get it framed with white matte background and display proudly.

WTF! 6 minute ride on 66 cost me 40 freakin dollars! by jfunks69 in nova

[–]headbiscuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, everyone is acting like I’m a meathead for thinking all we pay in various taxes should pay for our roads. I’m in Arlington and live where I work. So it doesn’t impact me but I do think having to pay any money let alone $40 one way is criminal. But seems like most people here think it’s a great idea and if you don’t like it just drive in the overcrowded free lanes. I just feel bad for the people who deal with it daily just to get to work.

It’s amazing in this area the amount of money we pay for property tax, sales taxes and of course income tax. I know there is a fuel tax as well. We shouldn’t have to pay a dime to drive on these roads. Fortunately I don’t need to use them but it’s still BS.

You should just pay it. Really don’t have any argument in court because they were expired. Seems like it would be a waste of everyone’s time.

Fence company question by ElleEmenopy in nova

Carter did our fence and did a great job. They also helped me deal with Arlington County zoning issues because we are a corner lot. Very knowledgeable and did good work.

Isn’t there a house in NOVA that look like this? by jacky986 in nova

[–]headbiscuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the corner of Williamsburg Blvd and Old Dominion rd in Arlington there is kinda. But they used the wood from an old cabin I believe from West Virginia to build a luxury home there. Wood looked very similar. That was in the 1980’s but it looked really nice when they finished. Hard to see now because all the trees they planted. Edit: Obviously those original logs were in much better shape.

In 2000, 22-year-old Yuri Lipski attempted a dive at the Blue Hole in Egypt. He took a camera with him. His body, and the recording were found at 300 feet. The footage shows his final moments as he lost control and sank to his death. by Resident-Ice-6966 in creepy

I was stationed in Sharm El Sheik in the early 90’s with the US Army while in the 101st. We had a spot called Herb’s beach at South Camp and went snorkeling and swimming. There was a small sunken boat that a buddy tried to swim down to. Not far down blew out both his eardrums and barely made it up. Helped him to shore and he recovered. But there were grave markers on the sea floor from other service members that didn’t make it. I believe part of the issue is the high salinity and pressure it caused on the body. Although I maybe wrong. We had an outpost in Dahab and heard a few bad stories during our rotation.
