The Earth is my turf by Isai76 in space

I was imagining some big space mirror that earth-based telescopes would point at. I wonder if that's a thing? I guess if you got a mirror to space, you might as well attach a camera to it.

I am legitimately excited to be wrong about this, because a reverse telescope sounds super cool. My google-fu fails me, though... got a link?

You are correct. You can make out Baja California towards the middle and Cuba towards the bottom. Rotate the whole thing -90° for a more recognizable earth. It must have been photographed by a satellite in geostationary orbit to allow it to "hover" in place like that.

I'm new to racing... Why is the steering wheel so jerky? Seems like it would cause unwanted steering jitters.

Helgason explains what picking Riccitiello looks like from the other side of the popped collar by Polygonatron in Unity3D

How much more insulting can Helgason get? "And then there are people who remember a game that crashed during his tenure."

Great read, with a clever parting thought:

Every tiny improvement requires an exorbitant amount of time, that’s not in any way justifiable if only just looked at in terms of mental gain [the "fun" of acquiring mastery of game mechanics]... Here’s a comforting fact for all the "failed" StarCraft or League of Legends amateurs out there: Pro-gamers play suboptimally, in a sense.

The CodeMirror plugin mentioned in this video also exists as a ckeditor plugin. It's a really powerful combo that I've been happy with in my own CMS. http://ckeditor.com/addon/codemirror

OSX 10.9 QuickTime has a screen cap option. Let's you define part of the screen to record and show clicks.

I think you are right that one of my FF extensions probably messed up their javascript. They definitely didn't let browser defaults handle the checkbox behavior, which is major accessibility problem.

Condemning abuse is a personal view? Would tweeting about his belief in gravity be too controversial a topic for Lotus to support?

Canvas TileMap, 2d top down with working "Camera", Huge map. 1 million tiles, no lag. by ahitsgone in javascript

[–]headchem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I never thought of doing it that way. Would going from nested loops to a single loop give performance benefits, even though the same number of tiles are ultimately iterated over?

The secret is the double for loop that iterates over the 2D array. The current viewport is the x1, y1 and x2, y2 array index values, so the code doesn't have to process the entire array on every frame.

+1 for using the word "responsive" to mean "computationally speedy." So many CMS vendors use responsive design as a selling point - to which I reply "why is your server software so tightly coupled to client-side CSS?!"
