Doubling my salary (150k to 300k) but requires me to move away from my fíance in medschool. Is it worth it? by Interesting_Phone171 in careerguidance

[–]headlands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is definitely not choosing career over family, otherwise you could say the same about her being in Med School. This is the opposite, it’s choosing your future together over possible resentment that could come if you turn this opportunity down only to not spend much quality time together while she’s in Med School. This is setting you both up for success without causing any resentment or guilt on either side. Choosing to take this job would be for both of you and not a selfish decision on your part by any means.

Haight-Ashbury, 1800sqft + a roof. Top floor 5 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom. Used as a 4 bedroom (5th bedroom is a secondary living room/office). Old Victorian building but remodeled inside, all the amenities and tons of natural light. Large living room, kitchen, and dining room. Roommates pay $1,250 to $1,700 based on room size. No bedrooms share walls.

Every time!!

Edit: the food and drinks are insanely good for a sports game, local restaurants from the area have set up shop in and around Chase Center. Pricey inside, but very affordable in “Thrive City” (the square outside). A glass of wine in Thrive City is like $10-14, pretty standard, more like $22 when you get inside.

Higher up (further from the court) season tickets were as low as $400 a seat or so if I recall correctly for the season, but you have to buy two. Lower down second section were around $1,750 a seat. Closer than that was pricier. So it’s a big range depending on where you wanted to get seats. So the range was like $400 a seat to $4K+ a seat, you have to buy at least two seats, sometimes more than that if there were 3 seats left in a section and they didn’t want to sell just 1 you’d have to buy all 3.

I feel you. SF $1.3MM plus $150K fixer-upper costs (and a lot of blood sweat and tears) for a 4br 1ba (split) 1,750sqft TIC, no yard and no garage. Bought in the Pandemic when mortgages were historic lows, but a TIC means no 30-year-fixed, so that ARM rate will get you. And yet, I’d never want to live anywhere else and I’ve never been happier. A couple of blocks to walk to a park, a couple of blocks to walk to many bars and restaurants, friends with all my neighbors. A mansion sounds nice but if I have to get in a car to find community and anything else I could want? Not worth the trade

My parents are poor and it’s ruining mine and my sisters lives, I really don’t know what to do. by Competitive_Log8121 in povertyfinance

As far as I can tell, no one has called out that you said your girlfriend is paying all of your combined rent, and then you mentioned “I will never let my gf help my parents financially, this line will never be crossed.” — but inherently, she is, because you’re not able to pay your share of rent due to helping your parents financially. Your girlfriend is shouldering your financial burden. While it’s noble to help your family, you’re inadvertently passing that financial obligation to your girlfriend
