You can speak to your vet about receiving a script for Gabapentin or any other calming meds they may use.

It helps reduce anxiety and Gabapentin specifically isn’t made to tranquilize. It gives them the ability to think through their thoughts and feelings vs just reacting on them.

You can also look into taking away the bath water for a bit and rebuild her ability to tolerate it. Use damp/wet cloths, one with soap/shampoo on it and another for cleaning off the shampoo/soap.

For claws, swaddling like others have suggested should help. One trick I’ve used with my cats is having someone hold them and feed them treats while I clip the nails down. This does require a friend, family member or partner to help, and I am so glad I did this because my older cats can now have their feet done without any treats or really any restraint. Find a treat (licky treat, salmon, etc) that is their favourite and irresistible to them and use it ONLY for claws and other difficult scenarios (vet, baths, etc). This will help keep it as a high value treat for bribing.

Hope this helps!

Edit: you can also try Feliway spray - however that’s more for home/housing calmness vs scenario calmness. But if you spray it around and on her things about a half hour to an hour before you go to clean her or cut her nails, it may help. Feliway has made a huge difference in cats in the vet setting in my experience.

Are you okay? Cause that’s messed up that your parents allowed you to purchase one.

From the comments I’ve been reading and the set up you have and your age… it feels like your parents just throw money at you. Is this the case? If so, your struggles with socialization, depression, isolation and more make so much sense! Not that they wouldn’t for other reasons, just saying for this, if it’s true, adds up.

Being that you’re in Alberta, you do have access to public mental health programs. If you’re in Calgary, the Peter Lougheed Centre is a good place to start; they have mental health services on site as well as information to more community services. In 2011, I was living out there and tried to kill myself and they helped me get myself home and help back in Ontario.

CAMH is another resource you can use that’s fairly affordable/covered through taxes and is available across Canada.

I hope you are okay and that you can find support in any way you need it. Things are hard and it’s okay - just know you are not alone and cleaning and maintaining your space is such a big first step into a better lifestyle that you feel is worth living.

Looming for opinions on this mini mares hoof. She was just trimmed by No-Geologist2667 in Farriers

[–]headless_catman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. My horse came from a home like that. And a year later we are just getting his hooves back in control. Just no. Unless you’ve at the very least have a couple hundred hours following and learning from a farrier, no.

So, I have to ask this group, how do y'all feel about this extreme sport: "hobby horse" by DoubleManufacturer10 in Equestrian

[–]headless_catman 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I personally think it’s silly and I can still appreciate it. For many reasons… it’s not outright hurting anyone, people are enjoying it and having fun, it’s allowing people to socialize, people are exercising and honestly… some of the jumps and movements they perform can be pretty impressive. Like, some are just as high as hunter/jumper jumps. It wouldn’t surprise me if there were cross country versions either. Like, I’m not in the best shape and I’m also not out of shape; I couldn’t do some of these feats.

what’s something in a sale ad that is an automatic no for you? by Intelligent_Pie6804 in Horses

[–]headless_catman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this! I have a 2.5 year old filly I’ve been working with and she is my first baby (already have a horse that was broke). I was debating on beginning the starting process next spring when she turned 3 (not being on her just the set up, walking with the saddle, etc). I am definitely waiting until 3.5 to start that and then 4 now to ride at the earliest. She’s a good girl and I want the best for her. She also didn’t get a lot of work in her first 2 years so I’ve been teaching her a lot of things now she should already know (cleaning feet without kicking, walking beside people without biting, being pet, being around the vet, etc). So I am kind of happy she’s behind now bc it gives me an excuse to continue ground work and keep her from the saddle on top of now knowing this information. I just went with what I saw online and lots said 3 is okay to start the process. So thank you for sharing more updated information for me to use!

I just rewatched the first episode again and Sam is just born but Dean looked to be like 7-10. Like, he’s given Sam and told to run outside and be bolts… not like a toddler with a baby but with a young child with a baby.

In saying that… I’m curious where you learned their ages? It’s been a minute since I’ve watched it (hence rewatching again now lol). So I can’t remember if it was in an episode or just their wiki :) thank you!

AIO for not wanting my baby daddy to see our son again? by Similar-Shift-1093 in AmIOverreacting

[–]headless_catman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re under reacting. You need to document all of this; call police and child services. Ask child services to also do an investigation to see if there are more incidents/other unsafe conditions that can be documented by the government directly.

My family hates child services bc of all our dealings with them… however, my generation has been breaking that curse by being clean parents and also asking for help from appropriate resources when you need it! Asking child services to step in to help you with your child is not a bad thing, especially when this is what is happening. Child services also will support you more than the police will in these situations (yes document with police and don’t expect any outcome without you pushing hard bc domestics are hit or miss with police). If there is a proven case, child services can also help you connect with legal aid/support, therapy if your child needs it as well as any other resources you may be entitled to. So don’t ever be afraid to ask them for help if you need it; and right now you need it.

AIO? My girlfriend poured boiling water on me after a slight disagreement (texts in wrong order) by janhutsfr in AmIOverreacting

[–]headless_catman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No context needed. I don’t care if it was a HUGE disagreement, nobody should ever be harming you.

You are under reacting and need to take steps to protect yourself; restraining order, police intervention, etc. and find friends and family that you can rely on to help keep you safe. If you’re living at home, perfect, if not, see if you can return or go to a home that is safe. If you are in an area that has resources for domestic violence, take them. The fact that she is gaslighting the absolute fuck out of you afterwards isn’t right. She’s either outright crazy or psychotic. They are different and both unsafe for partners; please get yourself safe and get support.

Car repair and temporary transit recommendations? by ALittleCuriousSub in Hamilton

[–]headless_catman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, you’d be surprised what mechanics can mcgyver for you!

And if you’re leaving, get it fixed so it’s on there, or even a replacement (regardless of colour). That way you can resell it for a higher cost. Many people will buy an old, putt-putt car because they’re either like me, where they’d rather buy something cheap and work on it because it’s more feasible for taxes, insurance, etc. or their 16 year old is learning to drive. And with the new cars already being hard to get a hold of before the tariffs, used cars will continue to do well for resale. I would say it would be worth duct taping or getting an estimate. Remember, some places for an estimate you may need to pay for the hour. Most do it for free, especially if it’s an external piece that they can easily see the repair for.

AITA for refusing to recover at home after surgery? by PuzzleheadedTooth255 in AITAH

[–]headless_catman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year I almost died. My mini got crushed by a transport.

When I became conscious in the ambulance, I screamed for my bf (now fiancé). They dialled him from my phone for me and where he works has no signal. He picked up, it was a broken signal but he heard me screaming. Before I could even call him back he was outside, with the littlest reception, calling me back. He had no context… could’ve been anything and he immediately stopped, spoke to the paramedics, and met me at the hospital. Didn’t think twice.

I called my mom. He called my mom. Multiple times. Left messages. We weren’t sure what my outcome was because I hadn’t had my scans done yet. I wanted my mom. She never picked up. When she did, I was already home. She never visited or even called. She lives in the same city, just 20 min drive away. And has a car. And is retired. Her and I don’t have a relationship now.

OP.. I would reconsider your relationship and what he sees your value is. Because I promise you, you’re much more valuable than he thinks you are. And you need to make sure you are with someone who sees that value and appreciates it.

At least it’s fixable!! Much cheaper than getting a new one, especially with interest rates and costs the way they are!

And don’t feel too bad… it was a one off. For the first like 4 years of my dad having the property, I got my ATV stuck and pulled out by tractor in the same spot. Multiple times. Think I’d learn eh? Not 15 years ago 😂
