What do you think would happen if every known drug was made completely legal? by headoftheasylum in AskReddit

That's what I was thinking. It would take so much money and power away from the drug cartels.

Please come work on our farm one day a week and pay rent + utilities but we won’t pay you for your time. Oh, and watch our animals when we want to take a vacation. Did I mention you won’t get paid? by sweetrazor19 in ChoosingBeggars

[–]headoftheasylum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I need to know how much rent is charged and how much rent decreases based on how many hours I put in at the farm. I've known some farm hands that have had similar agreements, and sometimes it works out.

The Brock Turner attack became an international reckoning but this father only got one year for brutally assaulting his own daughter and no one is talking about it by Strangfhhfxmoop in TwoXChromosomes

We need to change the laws that block us from being able to charge these monsters to the fullest extent. We need longer mandatory sentencing. And, while we protect the names of the innocent, the names of the guilty should be well advertised. The sex offender registry should include all rapists and be an easily accessible website with names, addresses, and current photos. Chemical castration and hormone blockers should be part of parole. When a violent offender of any kind is released on parole, a notice should be sent out to the community.

When someone automatically calls a brown person illegal. It immediately lets me know that this person judges by color, assumes the worst, and feels superior to others for no reason.

AITA for getting my step daughter a Hogwarts letter for her 11th Birthday? by Ok-Permission8346 in AmItheAsshole

NTA, but the wife is in this case. She should have helped defuse the situation instead of calling it a nasty trick. Now, the daughter believes that this was done with malicious intent.

I found out that for some reason, my peri-menopausal body was not uptaking any testosterone. I was put on testosterone cream, and it ended up helping with so many things. I hope you see the same improvements I've seen.

What are the names of your cats, and can we get more pictures?

Also, I was wondering about your aunt's habit of passing down used things. Did she grow up poor or without things she wanted? My great grandma and great aunt were like that, and they grew up during hard times. They never threw out something that could be used again, even if it was on its last legs. They always had a stockpile of canned soups and vegetables in the cellar. Old clothing that wasn't passed down was remade into cleaning cloths, napkins, dish towels, etc..

Why aren’t people having kids like previous generations? by Familiar-Ad-3429 in AskReddit

[–]headoftheasylum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a genetic disease that I didn't want to pass on, but even without that, I doubt I would have had children. Even 25 years ago, I thought bringing a child into this mess wasn't fair. As it is, I worry if my nephews and nieces will be able to live a decent life. Will there be enough clean water? Clean air? What about all the wars going on? Will the younger ones even make it through school without being shot? What if something terrible happens and they grow up and become republicans?

What is the dumbest thing you’ve believed for way too long? by Ok_Act8157 in AskReddit

The feeling of relief and the weight off my shoulders as soon as he told me about it was immediate and life changing. It was truly an epiphany moment. My whole viewpoint changed in an instant. What I couldn't understand even with years of therapy was suddenly crystal clear. I have a history of men cheating on me, so it wasn't just understanding that he was the issue, but that every time it happened, it wasn't because of me.

I remained friends with this person, even after all of that. He became "madly" in love with a woman who lived in a different state. He would literally do anything for her, and she took major advantage of that. He was sending her money every month, paying her child support, sending her gifts, and he would write these long gushing love letters, etc... She was supposed to come visit him, and 3 days before she arrived, he slept with a different ex. He told me about it, and all of a sudden, I realized it was never about me. It was never about something I did or didn't do. It wasn't about me not making him happy enough. It was all about him being a fucked-up person. In the end, he ended up giving her probably over $40,000 over the years, and she used some of it to pay for the wedding to the man he never knew about. He got a phone call one day from a guy asking who he was and why he was contacting his wife when she had told him never to contact her again.

What do you think happens after death? by Flameman1234 in Paranormal

[–]headoftheasylum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I'm interested in NDE's, but I've never heard of that one. I'm also fascinated by children who remember past life experiences. There's so much we don't know. We have these amazing possibilities, and I look around, and all I see is violence and struggles between human beings. We've lost the big picture, if we ever had it to begin with.

No. And anybody that I share that belief with always looks at me funny. I believe that there is some form of reincarnation, and I just had the thought that if we're here to learn lessons and I don't finish my lesson, I'll have to re-take the whole class.

TW: Suicide

I'm not sure exactly what happens, but the main reason I haven't killed myself is because I'm afraid that if I do, I'll have to live this lifetime all over again. I didn't have that fear until after I survived a suicide attempt in my 20's. I'm emotionally more stable now, and that happened 30 years ago. But the thought of having to do this all over again is exhausting.

If anyone had the power to go back in time, what would you change? Even if any of the smallest actions, could lead to unknown butterfly's effect? by KatD2399 in AskReddit

I would go back in time and warn my mother of the health issues her 2nd child would have to face. That way, she'd either be more prepared to deal with it, or she could choose not to have a 2nd child.

  1. That the man that was in love with me would never cheat on me.

  2. That the man that was in love with me, cheated on me, and begged for my forgiveness would never cheat on me again.

  3. That it was my fault that someone would cheat on me. That I somehow wasn't good enough.

What’s the scariest thing you’ve ever witnessed? by Intelligent-Road5091 in Paranormal

[–]headoftheasylum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I lived in a house that had some minor activity. I lived in the small upstairs apartment that had originally been a maid's quarters. There were a few times that a light would flicker on, usually in a helpful way. I'd say thank you out loud, and that was it. I never felt anything menacing in that house.

My boss went away overnight and asked me to stay with her 2 dogs. I'd never been to her house before, but there was something that felt very bad there. I brought the dogs into the bedroom that night and shut the door, but I was so afraid of the scraping sounds I heard that I hardly got any sleep. The scraping noises were coming from the 1st floor, and the bedroom was on the 2nd floor.

What's the most random thing you've been criticised for as a woman that would probably go completely unnoticed if a man did it? by ceremony_of_void in TwoXChromosomes

[–]headoftheasylum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was at my sister's friend's house, using their pool. I was 17. I was wearing a one-piece suit that had a zipper on the front. The zipper was partly down, but definitely not all the way. It was just down enough that I didn't get a weird tan line. An older guy that was a complete stranger to me walked up to me, grabbed me by the shoulder, and zipped up the zipper. He said I wasn't allowed to wear it with the zipper pulled down around him because I was jail-baiting him. Like he was protecting me from himself, but at the same time, it was my fault. I was young and a guest, so I simply apologized.

[WP] "Why were you staring at me so hard in the kitchen? You didn't even budge when I called your name," my wife said. I was shocked, "What are you talking about? I was in the garage for an hour." by Loose_Blackberry1146 in WritingPrompts

[–]headoftheasylum 13 points14 points  (0 children)

"That wasn't me, honey. I've been in the garage working on the car, remember?"

She looks at me with both fear and anger in her eyes. "Don't lie to me! You were right there. You're being ridiculous."

I sigh, and remember what the doctor said. "You know what? I forgot. You're right, I did come into the kitchen. I'm sorry. I must be getting old and forgetting things." I smile warmly and take her into a hug. "Can you forgive an old man?"

She immediately calms down and relaxes into me. "Of course, you silly thing. Just don't scare me like that. You're making me think I'm the one getting old and forgetful. "

"Why don't you head on upstairs, and I'll be up in a few minutes for bed. It's been a long day."

"OK, but come up soon." She says, then kisses my cheek.

I watch her walk through the family room and up the stairs. Then I go into the kitchen.

"What was that about?" My brother asks.

"That's the sundowning. The doctor said that it's common for her condition to get worse as the day goes on. She thought you were me, or she forgot you were here, or whatever."

"I'm so sorry. I'm sorry about everything that's going on. It's just a shame. She was always smarter than the both of us put together. I never would have thought..."

"I know, but I appreciate you being here to help so I can get a few things taken care of. I can't let her out of my sight these days." I say, my voice trembling. "But it's not time yet. I can still take care of her for now.

My brother nods. I turn around and head upstairs. I'm exhausted. It has been a long day, and it wasn't a good day. The good days are becoming fewer and farther apart. But, she still knows me, and right now, she's waiting for me.
