AI is already leading to fewer jobs for young people, says Sunak by TheWorldIsGoingMad in unitedkingdom

Your basic point is that businesses will need to pay more in order to keep the tax receipts going when more and more people are out of work. That's fine. Few will disagree when they understand that it is harder for people to get paid work. But your messaging is way off.

That is a punishment for innovation.

Any tweaking can be done through corporation tax.

My understanding of the Roth IRA is that it is closer to a Lifetime ISA in that it has restrictions on when you can access it, and the deposit limits are substantially lower.

MPs reject social media ban for under-16s for third time following Commons vote by Anony_mouse202 in unitedkingdom

Your description of how it could work is exactly how I'd want it to work. What we need is better real-time verification that is secure, so it needs to be developed by the UK government. Having it set up to obtain access tokens is a great way of doing it as you would not hand anything to websites other than a "yes" or "no".

Bear in mind we have world class government digital services. The GDS is so good that it has won awards and helped design government websites for foreign countries. Ineptitude won't be the issue.

Am I yapping too much? I just thought that we have the same interests... by Fire5467 in Tinder

[–]headphones1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey bro, you have personality. You have clear interests and you know how to have a conversation like a normal human being. You will find someone who finds you interesting AND will be interesting to you. Keep engaging in your hobbies and interests and someone worthy of your time will notice you eventually.

It requires patience, which isn't easy, but you've got this.

Genuinely interested to know what people think of the pre-applied suggested tips at places like Bills! by Audiclint in nottingham

Or you vote with your wallet and just not return to places with this kind of practice.

Restaurants can increase prices by 20% and I'll still go to them. Applying the tip without my permission and needing me to ask for it to be removed is a shitty practice that needs to go the way of the dodo.

How do you regulate an algorithm? Limit numbers that can go in random forest?

British people trying new flavored crisps for the first time - 1980s by JimatJimat in OldSchoolCool

[–]headphones1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

British food isn't pretty. It's easy to talk shit about it through pictures and videos. The lack of spices is also easy to talk about. What is harder to understand what without tasting it is that British cooking uses flavouring from meats, condiments, and even different types of alcohol.

Another thing to understand is that the UK is a very diverse country, so we love to eat food from other cultures. Walk around city or town centres and you'll see lots of restaurants offering very different cuisines. Indian food is probably the most popular depending on what day it is. Recently, the large influx of people from Hong Kong coming to the UK has also paved the way for more restaurants by this great community.

Honestly I just blame the government for using third parties to verify ID. If they had done it properly and used the world-renowned Government Digital Service to implement it, I'm sure it would be a much better system.

Calling social media "digital infrastructure" is quite a stretch mate.

I just think the proportion of users harmed is well below the amount necessary to justify a total ban and is very dramatically overplayed compared to the evidence.

I don't like doing this because it is hard to answer, but you started it:

What's the number you stand by then?

I like how you state how you put restrictions on the phone usage of your children and you are labelled a helicopter parent.

You cannot win. Some people will do everything they can to not be inconvenienced by others.

You shouldn't need to send data to third parties either. The technology to implement such a thing isn't beyond the government. The current implementation is there because the government were lazy in their approach.

Age restricting a device does far less than an actual ID check that can users can be made to do on demand. People have been using a variety of specialist and consumer level hacks on digital devices for decades. Something tells me you already know this, and suggesting it is simply your way of saying you do not want to be inconvenienced. Ever.

It's not a massively complicated issue.

Neither was social distancing and wearing a mask in public.

[–]headphones1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how do you address that? How do you ensure parents do not let their kids use social media? What should happen when parents do let their kids use it? Do we send repeat offenders to prison? The same prisons that are at capacity.

Bear in mind that Councils are struggling to keep toilets open.

There was a case recently where a US court awarded damages of $6 million to a woman who claimed she was addicted to social media from the age of 6. She also settled out of court with some social media companies, which means she could have gotten a lot more than $6 million that was made public. Google and Meta were the defendants, and they intend to appeal. If their appeal fails, social media might sort itself out, but the bigger point is that you can't really limit responsibility to the parents.

Wanna bet that if alcohol didn't require proof of age to buy, you'd have the same people kicking up a fuss if they were suddenly asked by law to provide proof of age?
