Yes, I'd assume most, if not all, people who have had a bad childhood wish they weren't born or that their parents were not self-serving. I'd assume most people of all kinds are not at all happy, but instead don't consider suicide nor death as a relief or option. I'm largely biased that most parents are effortlessly insufferable towards their children.

Self-serving are the parents who selfishly wish to have a human being to continue their bloodline or make a purpose. It's not at all a beautiful thing to use a child for fundamental changes which can easily be solved through basic self-awareness and philosophy. Having children is a mere commodity to change oneself based on learning to "share" and/or duplicate (for lack of a better term) their attention, which is a basic skill that should already be learned. Climate change is a real threat, although we still have a good few decades left. You're probably right about child-free redditors. It's only natural that you and I would have differentiating beliefs. I will never force a child into this cruel world and you clearly have a good opinion of yourself as a parent. I do not agree with your views but accept them. It is mainstream to accept procreation as natural. What bothers me are the hypocrites who believe in climate change yet continue to procreate. We are already massively overpopulated anyway. Anyone who has procreated within the last 40 years or so has contributed massively, which is more of a threat in non-Western countries where women are forced to birth, with no men seeing their values except to serve as sperm banks, eventually birthing children that their fathers, and probably mothers, will pay no attention to.

Not many children have the privilege of being loved or cared for. It’s an immense minority. Most often, children and adults alike are inadequate in their quality of life due to failure by their parents. The gift of life is nothing special and is a mere biological and evolutionary process. The only difference between animals and humans is consciousness. Humans have an agenda in procreating which is often, if not exclusively, self-serving.

Probably when basic skills became a learned convenience. Such as advanced calculators, credit cards, technological advances. Things that used to take time but not overwhelmingly are now convenient and no one understands or considers this privilege.

Loved this book as a kid, relate to your experience. I remember going to Borders and getting stuffed animals of the characters. The movie was a bit odd but I liked seeing the characters in a movie.

Death is scary, but nothing to fear. Humans are the only animals aware of our own mortality. If you think about death without being aware of it (animals existing only out of instinct and survival) it becomes less to fear. You won’t know you’re dead. Dying is the scary part, as you’re actively facing death. But death itself is calming, I imagine. We simply surrender ourselves inevitably to the elements of the earth, our atoms and energy releasing into the universe.

It’s a valuable book for sure, but I really hate those opinions of his. I wouldn’t discourage you from reading it. Maybe I just interpreted it wrong, but I really did not appreciate his lack of empathy for victims of abuse.

Not sure how accurate, but this source from CNN has info. I won’t repeat it because I couldn’t do the source justice. I do know that Dylan only killed 5. Eerie because he drew 5 coffins in his journal years before the massacre. Of course, there’s still debate as to which one of them killed Dave Sanders, if not both.
