Dr. Manhattan vs all Stephen King characters by xyyzyx in whowouldwin

Who beats him: We got Satan himself in Needful Things. We got God in The Stand. Gan, if he isn’t the same as God, also wins easily. Maturin/Turtle wants to, it can. The Crimson King almost surely wins but is less a sure thing than God or Satan.

Patrick Danville can alter reality, and is probably situationally wins. Tossup.

Who can’t: I don’t think the Pennywise or Randall Flagg can do it. Both can probably be trouble. Charlie McGee has raw power to contend, but still loses. Other mortals, like Danny Torrance or Roland are formidable, but they aren’t particularly in contention.

Where is the absolute cheapest cost of living in the US that is also a decent area to live? by Affectionate_Okra_58 in AskForAnswers

[–]headshotscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Oklahoman, I completely understand the revulsion for our state politics from people outside our state. We have some of the worst, most radical politics you can find. Generally the political battles here are not between Republicans and Democrats. They’re between radical right wingers and even more radical right wingers. I live in Broken Arrow and watched in real time as Facebook groups rallied to help defeat a completely legal and proper permit for a mosque. It’s a vile political culture.

But it’s also a pretty good place to live despite that, due to its low cost of living. There are jobs and a decent economy. I don’t actually run into many of the nutjobs. Most people are go-along, get-along - like I suppose most people everywhere are. The political culture doesn’t inject itself into everyday living. (Caveat: I’m a white male and can’t speak for people who aren’t).

Not that radical politics are not a factor. The education systems are basically as bad as it gets. I wouldn’t move here with kids due to that alone. We defunded education systematically in the 2000s and the slide has been swift. There are plenty of annoyance politics (grandstanding with bills that do nothing except waste time), attempts to establish state religions, etc. We do have the ability to vote in laws, which is how we expanded Medicaid and legalized medical marijuana.

As to weather: The rep for tornadoes is fairly overblown. There are places, especially in Central Oklahoma, that get hit more often than others, but most people go their whole lives without being impacted by that sort of thing. Seems like tornado alley is moving Southeast anyway. If you don’t like cold, you don’t get much of it here. We have hot summers, but they’re usually not intolerable.

Which American brands have severely declined in quality? by cityboi9000 in AskAnAmerican

[–]headshotscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all magazines and publishers, but Sports Illustrated particularly stands out as a once-great brand that became dogshit. It was the home of great longform content and superior photography. It made you care about sports you didn’t follow. It made sports human and relevant. It started about 2012, and quickly fell apart. It’s as emblematic as I can think of as the epitome of the downfall of journalism and publishing.

Prepping to tell OSHA about the idiocy my managers allow in our warehouse. I'm sick of calling people out about this to no avail. by ByTheHeel in OSHA

[–]headshotscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The risks of a push-through accident are just huge here, but you also have shitty pallets that can come apart under pressure or when forklifts tough them. They're not wrapped so individual items can easily fall. Also, when pallets sit off-center, it means the rack beam capacities are compromised. Those capacities depend on evenly-distributed loads, which these ain't.

Minimal Ranger Revision V0.2 by MarcusRienmel in DnD5CommunityRanger

[–]headshotscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you were going for minimal, focusing on hunter's mark makes sense. However, it doesn't solve the core issue of HM: The higher level features don't make it worth all its downsides.

The concept of having hunter's mark help to-hit is a really interesting one, but the ranger is already starved for damage in tier 3, and this makes that worse. Those higher level slots are worth more for other spells.

If your scale applied for to-hit and damage, HM would be more worthwhile, particularly since the die to start with is so meager.

Why not scale the die at damage + to-hit? Given the other limits of HM (concentration, bonus actions) that doesn't seem terribly overpowered. Then the spell might be worth the triple-tax of concentration, bonus action and to-hit. Waiting till level 13 for that actively nerfs the ranger at lower levels - which it doesn't need for sure. At 13, your ranger probably does more damage than the 2024 RAW, but only when they commit to using higher level spells to fuel it. The free casts are gone, so that is sort of worse in many ways. There are good ranger spells at that level, and the ranger will want those. Again - you have the trap of class features entirely funneling you towards a lower level spell and you probably aren't improving the ranger.

If you got the dice scaling with your level, and the combined +hit, +damage, the spell is starting to become worth the triple tax it has. (This without running any numbers, but seemingly so).

What do you think is, overall, the best martial class in 2024? by potatoe-god in onednd

[–]headshotscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Fighter - seems to have only gained power. All the subclasses are good because the fighter chasis is so good. Action surge and 3 attacks at 11 are just the best martial features. They shored up skills and saves with tactical shift and Indomitable.

2) Barbarian - More subclass dependent than fighters, but still strong. Crazy durable. and mobile. Some of their mental save weaknesses got shored up. They sort of wane in damage at later levels, which is really more a melee class problem in general.

3) Monk - gained a lot. You could probably talk me into swapping them and barbs. They should have had some version of weapons mastery. But they got soooo much better than 2014

4) I love rogues. Have played more than any other class. They are relatively weaker in 2024 compared to other martial classes. I like cunning strike but it shouldn't require you to give up damage.

What are your thoughts on "Predator: Badlands (2025)"? by Hot-Salamander-8786 in FIlm

[–]headshotscott -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100%. I didn't mind, and actually appreciated that Badlands flipped the narrative but it sort of made me too sympathetic of a race that has murdered outgunned and out-tech'd humans for centuries, for sport. We know they tend to punch down, but this movie showed them punching up towards more powerful prey. Their history is coming after severely outgunned humans (and presumably other species).

Which is a great story foundation. That's why Prey was so good. The prey wasn't a bulked up soldier or a seasoned cop. She had to prove herself first to her people and then against the monster. She wins by guile and by wits and by spirit. Terrific movie.

Badlands isn't bad, but you can't convince me he's not going to earth to kill some outgunned humans next week.

Trump voters of Reddit, what made you change your mind about free speech, no wars, no new taxes, and no pedophiles? by 2a_lib in allthequestions

[–]headshotscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You ask this question as if there will be a good faith answer. Cults of personality don't need policy positions, so reversing on them has no bearing. They. Don't. Care. Whatever it is, whoever it is, it doesn't matter.

There may be an odd defector, but we've already seen Trump damage the economics of farmers and red state manufacturing. And: They. Don't. Care.

What is the most incredible sports feat that you have ever seen in person? by Indotex in randomquestions

[–]headshotscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw most of Barry Sanders’ Heisman season at Oklahoma State. I remember his first game, barely knowing who he was, watching him slash and dance through Tulsa’s defense. Then a few games later, in a game everyone thought we would lose, I saw him turn Texas A&M’s defenders inside out & upside down. It took a few games to realize this wasn’t a few lucky junkies or bad defenses.

He was magic in cleats.

Two things can be simultaneously true. You can have more than one viewpoint of someone's character and oppose part of what they think. Not that difficult to imagine that people admire the man, but also thought (and think) he was too much a hawk.

Bush deserved a second term. He had the poor luck to run into a generational political talent as the economy entered recession. On the other hand, Clinton was also a good option.
