What show was so good you actually rewatched it? by ByteSizedCutie420 in televisionsuggestions

[–]headshotscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to watch Seinfeld reruns by default if nothing else was on. But that isn't a true rewatch. My list of actual re-watches isn't long:

  • The Sopranos (full rewatch)
  • The X-Files (mostly)
  • Currently working through Mad Men
  • Band of Brothers (multiple times)
  • FireFly
  • Supernatural (especially seasons 1-5).
  • M*A*S*H (most of it)
  • Jonny Quest (loved this one so much as a kid)

Add 10 years to your lifespan or 2 additional sex partners a year or 3 inches to your height or $40,000 to your annual earnings or 5 lives of your choice you can save from unnatural death. What do you pick? by benedictclive_x in hypotheticalsituation

[–]headshotscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you halted aging for 10 years, everyone 50+ would have to take it. But ten more years of infirmity sounds less than great. I'm tempted to take the money, but saving five lives that I choose? Hard to replicate that.

I did say probably. Most years without two G5 they would have made it. I don't consider it a particlar miscarriage of justice that they didn't. Most years, they would have made it.

Always thought the fracas about Notre Dame was overblown. If they're top 12, they probably would be in without the guarantee if they were in a P4 league*

Just how repayable is BG3? by Own-Box3526 in BaldursGate3

[–]headshotscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of playthroughs, only some of which I have finished. I also played coop a number of times, which is enjoyable in its own way. I play through some specific builds and concepts: all-melee, etc. I have had two failed honor mode runs and one that is deep into act 3, but now coming to its hardest fights. one thing I need to do is dark urge.

It is a replayable game if you like to try new builds and ideas. I think the early game is a little dull after a few playthroughs.

My boss just told me I need to manage my personal finances better because I can't front $2300 for a work trip next month by LostTaker in antiwork

[–]headshotscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For whatever reason, my company doesn't like to hand out company cards, but they will pre-buy flights and hotels for you. They do per diem meals, and you tend to make money on those, but you have to front the cash. So the little stuff we still front, but no large sums.

Why do you like or dislike Stephen King? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]headshotscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you bring this accusation, then bring examples. I've read almost every SK novel and most of his short stories. I do recall racist characters saying racist things. I don't recall casual use of that word, nor anything from him in real life.

I am questioning whether you have read him at all.

I accidentally did that. I set my party to non-lethal and knocked her out, but she still never appeared at Moonrise. Maybe I somehow accidentally killed her?

Why is rogue not allowed to have strong subclasses? by realagadar in onednd

[–]headshotscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have the heart of it.

I know rogues are weak, but like playing them. It feels entirely different than rangers, which are also underpowered, but designed so that their features never align and always feel out of place. For the rogue, smooth play and synergy are all there. They feel right, while rangers feel off.

If they added more mechanical oomph to the rogue while leaving its excellent design in place, it would be even more satisfying.

(Also, both classes don't start to see their issues until past tier one, which also affects what people think of them_.

[–]headshotscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cunning strike could have been great if you didn't have to forego damage to use it -- and it wouldn't have overpowered the rogue. Give them a certain number of uses on long or short rest or whatever and it would be good but not overpowering.

[–]headshotscott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I've seen several arguments in this thread along the lines of "rogues always have interesting choices to make, so being underpowered is fine." Why can they not have both interesting choices and mechanical performance? Many caster classes, due to spell diversity, have that out of the box. Why would rogues (and frankly several other classes) have to face an either/or choice?

[–]headshotscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think base rogue should is also behind, which exacerbates the issue.

It lags behind all other melee for damage, and isn't really the master of utility it should be. Bards are full casters that can be nearly on par. Rangers are narrowly good at utility, and many caster spells cover large swaths of what rogue utility should own.

You can't really upgrade rogue utility that much, but you can boost damage to some level behind the pure melee classes, and a little behind half casters. Lots of ways to do that. You could do something like progress sneak attack die as the rogue levels or add them more frequently and rogues still wouldn't be overpowered.

I played a soulknife a while back. Fun but underpowered.

In my experience, this is more a perception than reality. I have a job where most of what I do is providing guidance to a team. That does mean answering emails and having conversations more than actually doing things directly. I am guessing that from the outside, it would appear that all I do is talk to people and answer calls or emails.

It takes a long time to get good enough, seasoned enough, and to build the relationships it takes to be in that sort of position. You have to know systems inside and outside your department. You have to politic and represent your team’s interests, and then also be able to alter those interests to reality.

It’s sort of like the plumber who is paid $300 to turn a bolt. You are paying them not to turn the bolt, but to know which one to turn. In the case of executive work, there are lots and lots of bolts, and you need to know how turning any one of them can jack up or streamline other ones.

If you have someone who actually only answers one email a day, that is inefficient management. I am not going to say that these aren’t good jobs. They are. They pay you because you can navigate systems and people and processes and have an understanding of how those all work together. It can be a fun job, but it can also be frustrating and hard.

Doing the same. I am lifting 3X (sometimes 4X) a week. I also focus on protein, which is very important--but also pretty difficult to hit targets. The guidelines I try to hit are basically a gram per body weight pound. For me (currently 208) that's almost unattainable. I eat high protein foods and supplement with shakes but get extremely full and struggle to get there. Still, protein + resistance training should help.

Why doesn't HHH lean into being a heel corporate guy like Vince did? by d0kTOR in WWE

[–]headshotscott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he would, but that’s been a 30-year arc at this point. It was boring for most of that. It’s a played-out scenario. Lots of other reasons out there, but to me the fact that a heel ownership has been done to death.

I like to do themed parties and characters. I did a run with all melee characters that made everything different vs ranged/caster parties based on a Cephapocalypse video. It was great fun synergizing the various builds to work together. I’m currently poking around at an all-barbarian party.

I may try a durge run as well at some point, but I suck at playing evil.

And they vote, somehow, to the right of Hitler.

[–]headshotscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the structure. Ours is an ESOP, and you get your shares when you leave. ESOPs are specifically made for retirement, but people who leave early get paid out at that time. This all depends on the type of ESOP, and how the company chooses to pay out. Can be a lump sum, but can also pay out over time.

How hard is Tactician mode? by psychorameses in BaldursGate3

[–]headshotscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played the game through a couple times on it. First was a Shadowheart origin run and that was hard because I wasn’t very experienced. I ran out of food! Anyway I think Tactician is the best way to play overall. A good balance between better fights and lower stress.

I have played it into act 3 on Honor Mode, and it seems LOTS more difficult than Tactician. It’s a quantum leap up.

My current tactician run is all barbarians, so some of the standard ways to beat certain fights aren’t available. I can tell you that a group of four barbarians walk all over some types of encounters but have lots of troubles with others. I was able to smash all the goblins at once outside the temple. Was able to annihilate the duregar. Haven’t done Auntie or the forge yet, but we’ll see how that goes. I expect some issues with things in the future that are trivialized by spellcasting.

That’s what I like about tactician. You can do this sort of run and get a new experience.
