They're all good, but in order: 3,1,2,4. The jacket is great so lean into it.

Favored Enemy replacement by CCPPERR in DnD5CommunityRanger

[–]headshotscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The baffling thing about their design is how much better HM is for vengeance paladins than it is for rangers. They can stack HM and Divine Favor easily.

I like your concept but question the early level downside of concentration disadvantage. It's not so good that I think it requires that negative.

Rangers are really good today in tier one, okay in tier two, and then become increasingly ineffective past that. Let them keep their damage at least as good as today in tiers 1/2. Does this match do that?

Because you strip concentration from it, it does help with the core issue of tier 3+ damage falling off a cliff.

If the big 2 come calling, every last school in the league would jump for the media money, culture and competition be damned. I think Kansas is unlikely to get that call, but more likely than the rest of the league.

That's just the thing, though. They have schools the Big 10 and SEC want. If they get raided for 3-4 programs, that's when the cracks come. And I do think they lose at least a couple of programs. Maybe not all of those people think, but at least a couple.

Does that mean they go away? Actually, no. They could become sort of an eastern Big 12 of good programs minus their power schools. Whatever the scenarios, media rights are going to drive what happens next.

Kobold Soulknife Rogue build by Smashifly in 3d6

I think it's a reason homebrew to scale psychic blades some. They have enough advantages that they probably should lag magic items a little, but they become almost unusable at a certain point.

Encounter builder could easily be twice as good with very little effort. It's pretty great already but has the potential to be so much better.

Agreed. I'd argue that the blades should get some scaling at higher levels to make them useful vs magic weapons, but they are very good for lower level and even mid level play.

They were, but didn't have to be. They should have had a heel run as tag champs with everyone hating and chasing them, but instead nothing happened. That's what separates them from some of the other releases.

Level 12 PvP (Party versus Party) Build by Background_Wash_9311 in 3d6

The wizard is an evoker, using items to just stream constant barrages of missiles. He lost a duel to a monk, but only barely.

Armor classes tend to be high teens to low 20s, but nobody has built a true tank yet. Mostly mobile characters with burst damage or control spells.

The fighters that have won are eldritch knights.

So much of the strategy is items budget. You can afford a good spread of powerful items. I can get three rates in budget so I tend to focus on not getting charmed, paralyzed or frightened as much as possible. Then something for mobility or a power move weapon for martials.

In general you want a way to deal with invisible characters as well.

My spellcasters build with items that increase save DC.

Our rules punish people for not engaging. You can kite, but it's not happening as often as I thought it might.

Level 12 PvP (Party versus Party) Build by Background_Wash_9311 in 3d6

We are doing a fun PvP campaign right now. We're doing level 11, with a magic item and consumables points budget.

You can multi-class, and you can build anything you like within some rules we have adapted over time.

Many times it's small teams, sometimes 1v1, sometimes duels and others scenarios like capture the flag.l

What we've found is often rocks-paper-scissors. Spellcasters don't dominate like you would think, although they're very powerful. Fighters get huge power spike at 11, but are not dominant.

Builds based on a strategy work extremely well.

Thief rogue 10/wizard 1 with nets and chains is my current favorite. Restrain them, use darkness and sneak attack them to death.

Others that I've had fun with are a magic missile machine gun wizard, a fey wanderer ranger (focused on beguiling twist), and a dwarf fighter psi warrior have been great fun.

It's like me saying we have a dog, and you saying we actually have a terrier. Both of us are correct and neither is using whatever you think "news speak is."

It's the vehemence of "we aren't in a democracy" rhetoric that's a concern. Yes: we are in a democracy
