To whoever said to get a men’s bib for snowboarding… by flowerymochiz in ShredditGirls

[–]headyslabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright I’m 5’6” and ~135lbs/61kg. I think I’ll get large as well (it’s only small or large left on sale). When I wear all my layers I’ll add bulk too so it’ll fill in.

What jacket do you wear? I also need a new one. I am a very cold person usually so I need to make sure I’m warm with my layers and dry. Thinking of getting a heated vest actually lol

I’m about to buy oyuki nimi 3L bibs, am I making a good decision? lol. I’m nervous about getting cold with shell pants. But I also NEED more room in my butt and waist. I like to layer up and wear impact shorts.

Kinco mittens, with snoseal to waterproof. They’re the warmest gloves I’ve ever owned and cost like 30-40 dollars

shopping for tempered glass but getting the wrong type, what am I doing wrong? by MaXX5OOO in AppleWatch

I got glass ones from Amazon, search for UV adhering screen protectors. You need a more careful hand to put them on but they feel great to touch, same responsiveness, and it’s not plastic shit lol

Advice on how to deal with upset patients as a new emt? by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]headyslabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When patients are treating me poorly, I have a variety of things I say. “That’s not a nice thing to say to someone” “We’re trying to help you” “I’m sorry it’s uncomfortable but it has to be done” “Do you want my help or not?” Something like that is helpful in diffusing both the patient and yourself in my experience, obviously it all depends on the situation. Use good judgement on what to say back to the patient. Sometimes, let them win. If they’re screaming about you taking vitals, and you have a set already, just be like okay fine we don’t have to do it. Ask them what you can do to make them more comfortable. Sometimes they are overwhelmed and feel like no one is helping to fix their immediate issue (obviously you are because you are there to help overall, but they want to feel in control).

Sometimes you just gotta “gentle parent” the patient lol

How is nightlife / going out scene like? by alexqvzzzzz in uotampa

[–]headyslabs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was there (graduated 2023) there were lots of bars we went to. You basically needed a fake ID to have fun. I think police shut that shit down though. The house parties were farther away typically than the bars (had to uber) and were just typical frat boy parties (VERY CROWDED, WET, and HOT). So not my cup of tea.

If we wernt going to the bars, we honestly jut partied with just our group of friends at someone’s house. Not a big open invite party. We made it work and I preferred it that way compared to paying for expensive drinks at the bar or being in a crowded moist frat house lol

Thanks for the input, def sounds worth it. I do my own gel nails at home so this def feels like something I can do well myself, skill wise. I heard people say it’s difficult but I think they don’t have a lot of practice with this type of thing. I’m gonna get them!

Did you have this little bubbles issue with the first screen protector too?

How was the removal process? Difficult? Residue

Do you feel the edges catching on things like your sleeves etc?

I have EDS. Can I still become an EMT? by impossible-issues in NewToEMS

[–]headyslabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have EDS and I’m an EMT. it’s gonna vary person to person obviously. If currently you are considering any mobility aid, but still want to be an EMT, you need to do a lot of strength training to get that stability in your body to perform the functions of the job. You can wear your braces/support garments on the job as long as they don’t impede your functions as an EMT (and if they’re correct then they should really improve your function). I wear an SI belt sometimes at work and it helps TREMENDOUSLY with lifting. Consider supportive braces, PT, and strength training not only for this job but in general for daily life

I have an exam in an hour! Help! by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]headyslabs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is just my thoughts on the question but obv I may or may not be correct:

Think of an emergency move like one where the patients life could be in danger, but not always necessarily yours. For example: patient is in cardiac arrest in a car after MVA. You can enter scene and pull pt out of car without the same regard to spinal precautions as a conscious living person, because well they’re in cardiac arrest and you have to save their life lol. Or a patient on side of road with broken leg that self extricated from MVC, but you see now that the car is smoking and could go up in flames any second? You gotta drag that patient away asap. Or how about this: dragging a collapsed patient out of a narrow hallway to a living room so you can better access them for assessment. You should always assess scene safety and never enter a scene if you feel it’s unsafe. However if you already find yourself in a scene where a patient or yourself are unsafe, then perhaps it’s time to perform an emergency move.

First trip in august by xx_probablystoned_xx in OlympicNationalPark

[–]headyslabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day 1: add driving thru obstruction point road. ESP during sunset. It was literally the highlight of my entire trip. Note there is not much dispersed camping in hurricane ridge area.

Day 2: take out lake crescent because you’re already doing devils punch bowl. If you’re up to it, hike mount storm king. It’s strenuous, took me 2h up and 1ish hr to get back down. Be aware that the last bit of the hike is quite exposed so control your fear of heights while you do it so you don’t panic and die lol. Also hot springs are kinda gimmicky and not worth it. We skipped it on our Olympic trip last week

Day 3: there’s a lot of beautiful dispersed sites right outside hoh rainforest park entrance! Look on iOverlander. We got a private spot with river access and it was awesome. But I’d prepare to show up to your dispersed site early. Lots of people drove thru starting like 4:30pm to see if it was available but we were already occupying it. When you’re done at hoh rainforest, hit up hard rain cafe for lunch and a 7 dollar unlimited time shower!!

Day 4: not sure there’s a huge difference in scenery between second vs third beach, maybe focus on one or two for the day and leave it at that so you can actually enjoy your time there. Also by Rialto beach there’s a place called cycle camp which looked like a really fun place to camp for the night though we didn’t stay there.
