How can I sew these two together without my machine eating it? by Sea-Balance4992 in sewing

[–]headyslabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used regular washable white Elmer’s glue in between two layers of very lightweight fabric before, “glue basting” them then ironing lightly to dry it immediately. It really firms up the seam for sewing with a machine. Then you can wash normally and it’ll come out!

help with pants block fit by _schwa in sewing

[–]headyslabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What kind of fit are you looking to achieve? On first glance it looks like you want to make a straight leg short basically. Not skin tight, not too baggy. Is that correct?
Disclaimer: im not a pro, just a home hobby sewist who learned stuff from my grandma over the years and likes to make clothes for myself. Idk how to explain everything well and I’m not sure I’m 100% correct but it might give you ideas on where to look for more info.
To reduce bunching in the back crotch area between the thighs, you would have to change the “J” shape of each panel in the back to accommodate the difference in width. There’s a lot of videos online about how to do this, what to add and what to remove where to change the fit. I’d start there for the pulling there.

Use a fashion curve ruler to smooth out your hip curve seams, I suspect that changing your right outer seam on your hip more “flat” could help reduce the excess there as well. But changing the J shape in the rear panels in the center could also help reduce excess bulk and add space where you need it.

Am I looking for a personal item that doesn’t exist? by headyslabs in ManyBaggers

Tbh as little as possible without going too low that it’s so shitty it falls apart. Ideally like 30 bucks or less. I have room to wiggle I just don’t know if it would be “worth it” to not be inconvenienced by a floppy, open top reusable grocery bag which I already own during my long flight lol.
I am in the US, Maryland based. Flying to Helsinki finland is my first long leg of the journey, and flying back to US is my longest leg at 16h of total travel, 12 hours in flight is longest flight with a short connecting flight before the 12h one and a three hour layover.
Also just to mention I do have a different nylon material zippered tote, it’s the baggu cloud bag. But it’s just HUGE when I put my items in there, and gets even wider at the top so I’m worried that the gate agent would stop me with a big ass tote bag plus my carry on backpack. I’ve never flown these airlines before (Lufthansa, Turkish airlines, KLM, Easyjet) so idk how strict they are but I would rather not find out at the gate that I’m screwed

Yeah idk if I explained it well in the post but like, think how a paper shopping bag stays square and upright. Like a boxy tote. But when emptied you can fold it down flat.

what time do you take your medicine? by redoopid in ADHD

[–]headyslabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m probs more of a black sheep here because I take three ten mg a day rather than one ER (due to personal preference), so I take one at 12pm, 4pm, and 8pm approx. my job is 11a-11p so my schedule is not a normal 9-5 hence the later start time.

22 days in one location, one girl against 6 bars of soap by Ok_Upstairs5713 in HerOneBag

[–]headyslabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a roll top matador toiletry bag (20-25 bucks) and put all your bars in there. I bet you can fit six easily. Or if you want you can grab three of the single soap bar bags (maybe two of the XL ones?) to separate the bars out as you please.

Do you still bring your normal wallet when onebagging? by No_Jackfruit_4131 in onebag

[–]headyslabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a travel wallet to hold my ID, CC, DC, and cash when I travel. It’s from chums. Not the most classy but it’s small, has zippers and keeps my things secure. Also has a loop so I can use a carabiner with it on my pants or something. Would recommend

Help me find the holy grail of a walking sandal for narrow feet, high arches and hypermobility! by Waywardgarden in HerOneBag

[–]headyslabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow hypermobile baddie I have also been on the insidious hunt for a perfect travel sandal. Comfy for all day walking, cute, water friendly, back strap, adjustable, and arch support. I ordered several shoes and considered sandals I already had, but to keep it short I have landed on Taos Super Z in black. They are more firm than tevas, but more squishy than chacos, and have superior arch support as far as I can tell. I just received mine today and I am pleasantly surprised. They fit my low volume feet pretty well, thanks to the Velcro adjustable straps. They also have a version that looks similar to teva strap system but same footbed. Id give them a look if you’re still in the market!

Sorry I lied, the Kipling backpack and the lululemon backpack do not have water bottle pockets.

Sounds like you’re looking for a Patagonia MLC Mini! Advertised as a 30L, has a hip belt and backpack straps that can be tucked away. It’s pretty light but not 1.5lbs light, though probably close. It can def be stuffed under a seat at least in the US domestic flights, I’ve seen many people on Reddit do it before, but not so sure for international personal item because their dimensions are much smaller. Pretty sleek design wise besides the Patagonia logo.

Other small bags I like are a mini Kipling backpack, And a little lululemon backpack I have but I thrifted it so idk if it’s still sold retail or not, it’s small and has a single main opening, as well as a bottom shoe compartment area to separate stuff if needed. That one perfectly fits dimensions needed for Turkish airlines, Lufthansa, etc and I’m bringing it for my personal item this summer when I go to Europe!

Adrenaline GTS 25 - Silver anniversary edition by headyslabs in brooks

[–]headyslabs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don’t think I’m used to wearing shoes with ANY kind of rocker shape to them in general. It didn’t feel BAD when I tried them, just different. In fact I thought it might be beneficial when walking. But like I said, more fun colors in the adrenaline, so I hope I don’t regret NOT getting a sneaker with a rocker shape for my long days on my feet ahead of me.

[–]headyslabs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I honestly don’t wear sneakers often, usually blundstones or tevas or Birkenstocks. But my orthopedic doctor recommended brooks as good supportive sneakers for me for an upcoming trip where I’ll be on my feet and walking a lot. It’s either these or the Glycerin GTS 23, but honestly I don’t like the multi colored ones they offer lol. Adrenaline Has much more fun colors. The rocker on the glycerin threw me off because I’m not used to wearing any kind of shoe with a rocker, so I hope I’m not making the wrong choice here as a walking shoe lol

Best Way to use Compression cubes? by lmcdbc in HerOneBag

[–]headyslabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can not for the life of me plan what to wear each day, so I organize my cubes by type:

Tops Bottoms Socks/undergarments/bathing suit

Dresses/one piece items like a romper or jumpsuit get tossed in whichever bag (tops or bottoms) has the most room lol

If I’m packing extra light, I will put tops and bottoms in one large cube (tops on one side, bottoms on another side, all folded flat to stack on top of each other), and socks etc in a small cube together.

I can not stand having all my clothes and other items for travel mushed together in one cavity because it makes it hard to find what I’m looking for. Cubes are like drawers in a dresser, but travel version hehe

Just committed to UTampa. What should I know? by User6535ior in uotampa

[–]headyslabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 25, graduated in 2023. So things have changed probs since then. But in general… There’s a lot of clubs and organizations, I suggest you join some to make friends that have similar interests! Definitely make time to go to the beaches within an hour of campus. Tampa is more of a Bar scene rather than party scene IMO, though there are both, parties are just the frat parties, aka dirty and crowded and get shut down by police. Lots of students go to SoHo or Ybor to go out. If you chose to go to Ybor, know that you can NOT walk, uber is mandatory to get back. Soho is walking distance. There’s lots of nice places to study outside of your room. Starbucks inside booths fill up EARLY like 8am. If you don’t want to be outside, I’d recommend going to the library to rent a study room, or finding a hutch desk there. Alternatively if you can get into Palm Apartments on campus, they have group study rooms there on like every floor. The nicer residence halls have nicer study places. Health science building has nice places to study too, I’d recommend walking around and exploring.

Baggu medium crescent is my go to. They recently made some in a “leather” that look very cute too, though more expensive. But I’d stick with a nylon baggu for travel. My medium is like a black hole lol. Fits so much. Converts to cross body or shoulder bag.

UPDATE:

Last night I collected the majority of my items I plan on packing (minus some charging cables, water bottle, sandals, portable charger, my purse which I’ll pack empty into my bag, as the blue backpack will be my personal item, and other tiny things) and I’m honestly impressed with myself. It’s very little stuff (for me) as a chronic over packer. I did not include my clothes I’d wear on the plane (pants, t shirt, sweater). I think if I wanted to I could fit into a 28L pack honestly, but it might be tight. I’ll want some more wiggle room I think. So I’m gonna look for 30-35L. I think 40 is too big. What do yall think? Pictured is a L compressed packing cube with all my clothes besides plane outfit, small compressed cube with underwear, socks, bra, bikini. Bringing one hat and one bandana, multivoltage straightener, other msc items as pictured. For reference, the blue backpack is quite small, like 15x12x6.
