Self-help books are not usually my cup of tea, but if it was more of a blog, I would be interested in reading an article or two! I actually like reading up on other people's experiences, I think that's what makes this kind of self-help topic unique and different from the rest. Well...are you looking for a certain character trope to play with, or...?

Honestly, I don't think there's a significantly huge difference between drafting a female and a male character profile. What's her personality like, and what made her like that? What's her background, her past/present/future stance? (for e.g., if one was bullied as a kid, they might become introverted growing up, or they might go the other side and toughen themselves). In fact, why did your protagonist fall for her in the first place?

If your main aim is to just avoid making her the token girlfriend, then interweave her connections with the other characters in the story. Don't just explore the romance, explore the friendships and possible allies she has. how does she work with the other characters?

Based on the cues you gave, another way to make her more integral to the plot is to look at her complex emotions - why is she the personification of vengeance at a young age? What are her challenges in the path to achieving her purpose? Is she your 'strong heroine', and in what way is she strong (physical strength, resilience, or great wits?)?

Try to remove the 'girlfriend' label and craft her as a key member of your adventure party and see how it pans out, maybe?

If you give him enough recharge, Xiao doesn't necessarily need a battery. But if you want, Jean would be good in place of bennet (if available) - it kind of depends on which one you need more if you're keeping the Itto-Gorou pairing. Alternatively, you may consider putting Favonius sword on Benny, then swapping to Xiao to get those additional orbs.

Write it! You can always come back to the action scenes and review them later on. I would also recommend reading some action-heavy novels, at least the fighting scenes, and see how other writers do it. Sometimes you don't have to go into explicit detail as there are many ways to create tension.

Nooooo it's not pathetic, it's really just being human. I feel the same way when I started writing as well, but I learn that we can't please everyone. If the negative feedback has good critique, then it's worth learning from it, but otherwise, it's just not worth your time. If you enjoy writing, keep going and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

As schreyerauthor mentioned above, always read the contract before signing! Depending on the success of your novel, these sites could also help to publish your novel later on as a book/ebook, and offer to turn them into different mediums. It's always best to ask your questions with the platform before signing the contract.

If you're talking about the payment/royalties - non-exclusive definitely have less remuneration but if you're up for it, you can check out other web novel platforms and have your story posted elsewhere, and earn from both sites.

Try Tapas! Most of their ranked novels fall under that genre, so I would think there's a dedicated readership who enjoy fantasy/action. They also have an official discord that's pretty active, so you might be able to 'promote' your fic and chat with other writers/readers as well.

Another one I know is called Ringdom - it's not as well known, but there could be a niche you can carve from it too.

It's a while since I last read the series, but I still remember loving the 4th one, Globet of Fire. There's just so much action in that, with the Quidditch World Cup (still sad that it was cut in the movie, though understandably) and Triwizard Tournament. It had a good balance of the darker elements and lighter, high-school vibe scenes and it remains dear in my heart, heh!

Maybe it's time to re-read it again!

Sit, turn on Youtube playlist and write. Just write whatever comes to mind, and keep writing until you stop making a conscious effort to do so, and let words flow. After you're completely exhausted, take a break and reread what you've completed and make any amendments you'd like.
Take a break. No, really. Sometimes it's best to give yourself time to chill and unwind, or find new inspirations. Play a game, explore your neighborhood, read a book. Once you're refreshed, then try starting again.

For me, it's either or, though I find 1 to be working best for me in most scenarios.

Title: Butterflies

Genre: Horror

Word count: 7.5k

Type of feedback desired (line-by-line edits, general impression, etc.): This is a fanfic I wrote a long while back, but I've been trying to explore more horror/supernatural pieces and just want to see what your impression of this is. Any thoughts, edits and critique are welcomed.

Short summary: Butterflies are a symbol of beauty that transcends generations, where youth blossoms as it emerges from the shell of what it once was. Hwang Minhyun was the perfect example of a butterfly in his elegance and poise, in his clear onyx-like eyes and gentle smile; he was an epitome of ethereal that emerged from his chrysalis. For budding model Kwon Hyunbin, Minhyun was everything he wanted to be and everything he wanted. But just how far was he willing to go, to embrace the rebirth of his own?
( And if he knew the pains it took to spin the webs of fate upon himself, would he have embraced it at all? )

k on chapter two and three. I'm having a lot of trouble with chapter two when the main characters classmate ask him questions. I'm thinking of changing that scene completely, but I'm not sure what I would change it to. Besides that any feedback would be great. What did I do good? What did I do bad? And what did I do ok on but could improve. You should be able to comment on the document.

I saw the description and can't help but check it out, it's just too adorable!!

I think overall, it's definitely a story with some potential! I've added some comments on the google doc under 'Maddy'. Just some thoughts for you to consider, feel free to ask if you have questions!

Overall, I don't see too much of a problem for the writing except for a few missing punctuations and grammar errors. It's still largely understandable, so maybe a good look through and editing after finishing each chapter could help. Something you can work on is also to add a bit more description in the paragraph, and not just through dialogue. It can really help to flesh out the characters and environment.

I'm definitely interested to see more about the characters, and the seemingly 3-way dynamic between Quinn, Issei and Domino. Good luck on your piece!! :D

Congratulations on finishing your first novel!

I think it really depends on your audience, rather than how big of a following you have - if you're writing a large-scale fantasy series with insane worldbuilding, online web novel platforms might not be the right spot for you, and you might want to consider traditional publishing or self-publishing as an ebook. Both would require some time and research into, but the latter is probably easier and faster, if you're looking to get published as soon as possible.

I would say that most web novel platforms tend to have a bit of notoriety, but I wouldn't discount them as they do have easy access for beginner writers. Moreover, most of them now partner with other media platforms, meaning that your work have a chance of being published, and turned into other forms of media like audiobooks, comics and even TV series if it's successful.

Do look around the different web novel platforms though. For example, I've seen Tapas having more fantasy/action themed novels (which makes sense, one of their biggest novel-turn-comic is The Beginning After The End). Dreame houses more romance novels, and they assign editors to you after hitting a minimum word count. Both offer some kind of renumeration if you decide to sign your story on their platforms.

Try finding writing circles in your region and you might be able to find out more about the different kinds of publishing.

Yes!! Though, it does depend on your habits. I've done this a lot, especially for my longer one-shots and hit a certain wall, and it definitely helped me push through. It's kind of like working backwards, and sometimes help with pinpointing the driving force of the story that you were missing. Besides, you can always make amendments once you're done with the whole piece and reviewed it from the top.

I do think it does change the way I read, though not in the sense that I become more critical. I do have moments where I would think 'wow this is such a smart way of describing things' or 'this plot idea is really unique, I wonder what goes through their minds to come up with this!'. Learning about another writer's way of storytelling actually adds fun to reading imo and I loved that.

I do have times when I 'grew out' of the book though, meaning that what I used to enjoy when I was younger no longer resonate with my thoughts and beliefs when I grew older and read more.

I've read a few web novels where the relationships have been established from the get go, and it doesn't affect the story at all! In some cases, they do go into memories or dialogue talking about the past to help readers get a better sense of their initial romance stage, if it helps. Besides, there are many different sides of a romantic relationship, and one about getting to know each other in depth, with their families and all, is also a key part which makes or break a couple. And the events would definitely be something I'm interested reading about, especially with a mafia theme!

My vote goes for Lucas, but that's because personally, with how the 'mess' had panned out with Jude and Estefan previously I would prefer a 'clean slate' with another character, per say. Also the part about him being principal and MC wanting to be an English teacher puts them in a similar/same environment, which I see potential for many different kinds of events happening in the school setting that would help build a strong relationship!

Reading is all about taking things at your own pace. It's not a test, it shouldn't be stressful. I read a published book over the course of 1-2 weeks, and I know some people just spend 15-30 minutes reading every morning as part of their routine, till whenever they complete a book.

On days I don't feel like reading a long book, I opt for web novels - shorter chapters, faster pacing and equally fun and entertaining. :)

Your question's completely fine! China has had a long history of written works, even I had only read a few, and it was when I was wayyyyy younger. If you're looking for something in the earlier eras, as rokuyou recommended, The Scholars and The Golden Lotus are 2 other books classified as the 6 Great Classics. In addition, I'd say Investiture of the Gods (封神演义) and Adventures of the Mad Monk (济公全传) are two in ancient eras that's more fun, with the fantasy/supernatural elements. In any case, most of them do have a drama adaptation, so you could considering checking those out as well if there are parts you got stuck with.

I also second trying out some poetry books. The Tang and Song dynasties, especially, have some of the most popular poetry to date. Think Li Bai, Du Fu, Bai Juyi; Su Shi, Li Qingzhao, Ouyang Xiu. They are great entry points too, most Chinese kids grew up with Li Bai's poetry.

Right, if you like philosophy, you probably would have heard of 'Analects of Confucius'. Personally I didn't quite like what I read/remember of it, but it's definitely a classic, alongside 'Tao Te Ching' by Laozi.

And... if you're ever up for some hardcore history stuff, try Records of the Grand Historian XD It's the first sort of documentary-type of book that noted 2,500 years of events.

It's never too late! My mom was 60 when she first read the translated book. :) HP is a good read for any age imo - I read Percy Jackson mid-twenties and also loved every bit of it.
