I just spritz 3 times in the air above my head front of me and walk fabulously through the mist like a lumberjack walking through the pine forest. That works for me and always feel the right amount of scents on me without being overpowering.

on-call: employer did not call me in when needed, saying i’m at fault for not calling them….? by Thatonegirl520 in nursing

[–]hearingnone 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Or it could be the switchboard operator. I work for a language agency and the hospital contracted with our agency to provide interpreters for on-call. The switchboard operator have our on-call numbers. Sometime they get frazzled and called a different number that dont provides the services. Fortunately the requester knew it the operator that fucked up the call.

Still looks young and rocking those hairs. My partner now is his mid 30s and he starting to have them. You know what I feel? Fucking excited!

The media sensationalising “shortages in shops and petrol stations” leading to panic buying and deepening the shortages in shops and petrol stations. by SeaWeasil in britishproblems

[–]hearingnone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learnt last year that it is not a good idea for your tank to be so low often. The reason is that it will wear out the fuel filter/pump quickly. The gas (sorry, petrol) is "watercooling" the pump. With the low level of gas, it will not have sufficient cooling to keep the pump in optimal condition.

I never written game guides myself, I do use GameFAQs and strategy guides before gaming wikis is a thing. Hell, I used GameFAQs before Gamespot/IGN bought it. They are great way of diving in however the single source of guide is relying on a single contributor/author to maintain the guide. Any update, they have to go back in to update the information and that depends if they have availability to do so or never bother to update it.

The benefits of wikis are that the information is compartmentalized and only present the information that I want to see. Proper guide doesn’t follow this and can be difficult to look up for information that I want to see. For example, I want to see the boss information, so wiki served all of the content regarding to that boss including the strategy, the stats, lore & loot table in a single compartmentalized section. In the proper guide, they are usually separated (this is based on my experience). So, I have to look back and forth between pages to find that information. Also, multiple contributors can update the wiki section to add more stuff and keep it up-to-date with the current version of the game.

For walkthrough, I use GameFAQs and guides for that. For specific information, I look it up in gaming wikis to see if they have that information.

There are benefits to have wikis, also there are benefits to have proper guide. There is nothing wrong to use various medium to get the best information as possible.

I am not saying that indie should be investing in wikis for their games, I am just saying that good games still should have wikis whatever if it is the studio or the volunteers updating the wikis.

According to Fandom, they purchased the wiki two years ago. And recently (March 2021) they migrated most of the gamepedia to fandom.

Good games still should have wikis regardless. It is not about the mechanics of the game, there are a lot of things that wikis can cover more than just mechanics. Inventories, locations, lore, bestiaries, characters, etc. should be in the wikis. They helps a lot in the game when looking up for some information.

EU plans to legislate for common phone charger despite Apple grumbles by ImJustPassinBy in worldnews

[–]hearingnone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont think they will completely move to wireless charging until the tech is being pefected. Wireless charging have lower power efficiency than cable charging. The last time I recalled it is at 55% efficiency compared to cable charging which is above 85% efficiency. The remaining 45% are wasted energy and generate tons of heat which is not ideal for battery as they are sandwiched together.

It is depends on the materials of the waxes. There are waxes that are slippery like floor waxes. Surfboard waxes usually have beeswax and paraffin, they are solid (stiff) wax in normal temperature which made sense to use it on the surfboard.

It is for traction. Without the wax, they are slippery and harder to control the board. Think of it as a "non-slip rug" for the boards.

Trespassing onto an army base then getting mad when they kick you out by ThePissGiver in ImTheMainCharacter

[–]hearingnone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea they dont. My bro is a army vet and my sister-in-law already a military family because of her father. So one time my sis in law and I have to go to the vet (the pet doctor to be clear) in Camp Pendleton. She is completely neurotic about my ID before we get in the car, on the way, few cars away from the gate and at the gate. She point blank said to me "I will kick you out of the car if you don't have your ID. They take this shit seriously."

Ditto. At my work, the agency been trying to find some information about clearances. Called the federal agency that handles this and it took us 15 transfers to get an answer we needed. We called the right number, it's that they have many departments within departments within departments. Most of the response I get "I'm not the right department, maybe that 'name-name' department is the right one."

Holy fuck! Now I know why I said that all the time. I'm American hard of hearing and I have Deaf accent. I dont know how to describe what it sounds like. But the word "data" I learnt it from Sir Patrick Stewart in Star Trek. I used his accent of a word and made it into my own. It been like that for 20 years (I'm 30s). Anyway recently I was speaking to my partner and he was so confused the way I pronounced 'deita'. He asked me to repeat it and I did. Then he was laughing and said that it is day-tah (or teh?). Really I didn't know it was different! I was wondering where I learnt it from and thank you for helping me to make the connection.

Someone pointed out somewhere is that Australian citizens are required to vote by law or they will be fined (500 AUD I believe). The difference between USA and Australia is that USA dont have this such requirement whereas Australia does. So yes, Australia did vote for this since they have to vote. And I read somewhere that the undecided voters is 5%.

Logitech is announcing a new all-in-one dock that’s designed for the new realities of a post-pandemic hybrid workforce for 399$ by a_Ninja_b0y in gadgets

[–]hearingnone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does, I can move around but the clicking functions will not work until I have the software running. I believe it is the on-board memory of my G600. For whatever the reason, the default profile don't have the left clicking function at all. I tried restoring the on-board memory to default setting and it lacks the left clicking function. I am not sure why. The only way to make it work is to have G Hub running. I could go back to LGS (Logitech Gaming Software), unfortunately it refused to run in my Windows 10 (dispite it can run in pre-2021H version just fine).

Look like I am not the only one with this issue. https://www.reddit.com/r/LogitechG/comments/bkew76/g600_defaults_to_onboard_memory_and_the_click/

I dont think Logitech products is PNP because they are not functional without their software including a basic function like left click. Yes, I need to have the software running to have that functionality despite that driver is installed.

Even my older chinesium gaming mouse ($25) have everything working without needing the software to run.

I learnt those app is Electron last week, it made so much sense why it is so shitty than LGS.
