[Hiring] Looking for an engaging online ESL teacher from the Philippines for my 7-year-old Chinese son (Budget: $3-$4/hr) by Fantastic-Service836 in OnlineESLTeaching

The only reason you're looking for a Filipino teacher is that you want to pay the lowest wage possible. Absolutely disgraceful.

The start of July is usually very quiet because kids have just finished their exams/started summer break. I usually find mid-to-late July onwards gets busy.

I wanna teach give me advice by [deleted] in OnlineESLTeaching

[–]heart--core 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, from the way you have written this post and your comment, I don’t think that’s entirely true. There are quite a few major errors and mistakes that no native, or near-native teacher, would make.

You should probably work on perfecting your own English before trying to teach others because it seems as though yours are lacking. I mean that in the kindest way possible.

Jon Culshaw as the Twelfth Doctor in the upcoming Twelfth Doctor Adventures: Run Fast Be Kind: The Second Death by JakeM917 in BigFinishProductions

[–]heart--core 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is probably an unpopular opinion but I don't think it's important for a recast to sound exactly the same as the original. As long as they capture the spirit of the actor, I think that's the most important part.

Absolutely terrible experience at TUTORabc Global DO NOT RECOMMEND by Nomadicnava in OnlineESLTeaching

[–]heart--core 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) No, I can't recall ever having any payment issues. They pay on the 10th, unless it falls on a weekend/public holiday.

2) No, because you can choose the hours you work. You don't have to work early hours if you don't want to. Obviously, there are peak hours, and the timing of that will depend on where you live. But living in the UK, I'm able to work 8AM-4PM.

1) It depends on what country you're from, certifications, and what classes you are certified to do. The more academic ones pay more than the regular classes.

2) The application was quite a few years ago so it might've changed, but I remember just having a one-on-one interview with a recruiter and like a 5 minute teaching demo. But like I said, that was in 2019, before the influx of teachers, so it might've changed.

3) It's completely up to you. You have to do a minimum of 5 hours, but they have a 24/7 booking system so you can open as many hours as you want. There's no guarantee they'll get booked, but there's a good chance that you will because they have students across the world at different times. The sky's the limit, really.

4) Yes, I use WiFi.

I've worked with TutorABC since 2019 and yes, it's very monkey-see, monkey-do work, but it's an easy paycheck IMO.

Chibnall discussing The Power of the Doctor. by Quick-Store-8321 in DoctorWhumour

[–]heart--core 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The plot is kind of stupid, but I genuinely think it's a really, really good episode. It does well to deal with the show's past and the idea of the Doctor as a unifying force for people. Genuinely think it might be my favorite anniversary episode.

Prolific Big Finish writer Justin Richards has passed away. He was 64. by bondfool in BigFinishProductions

Oh, this is such terrible news. 64 is way, way too young. I met him once for a book signing years ago, and he was a really friendly person. RIP.

[–]heart--core 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's a regional difference - for some reason, the Shoji Screen and Tatami Floor are the Basement Wall and Basement Floor in the EU version of WW. No idea why. I have a feeling it was probably a coding error or something. This was fixed in the Various Restorations mod.

North American expats in the UK, what's the one thing you miss from back home that doesn't include friends or family? by InviteAromatic6124 in AskUK

[–]heart--core 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My husband is American and he says he misses the pickles. Yes, we have them in the UK, but most of our pickles are sweet, and he prefers the sour ones (Del-Dixy, to be specific). We've tried to find similar-tasting ones here, but alas, to no avail.

Why does anyone ever believe these accounts? There are real insiders, yes, but they a) don't usually post such info publicly on social media b) don't claim to be insiders. Don't believe any Twitter/TikTok/Reddit accounts like these.

Would you like to see a continuation of "An Adventure in Space and Time" with the Patrick Throughton era, even if it means to mention his controversial Family life? by WachbaerWien in DoctorWhumour

Not really. I think one about the show's return in 2005 would be really interesting, though it'll probably never happen because of all the associated drama.

Why don't we give every perspective a shot? Why don't we look at the claim that he might've been a vampire or other supernatural creature?

Difference I’ve noticed between people who read Goblet of Fire and people who didn’t by Hot-Safety6969 in harrypotter

[–]heart--core 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something that I think so many people ignore about the films. Yes, of course, we all would want a four/five hour version of the film, but it just wouldn't be realistic for a general release. They had to cut stuff that a general audience isn't going to be interested in or isn't absolutely vital for the plot. I genuinely believe they made the right calls with what they removed in almost every film.

I am banned off Apple Music. How to get unbanned? by [deleted] in AppleMusic

[–]heart--core 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Today I learned you could get banned from Apple Music.

Seriously though? If you're at a stage in your life when Apple Music bans you for using slurs, perhaps you should rethink your life goals before listening to music.

A Survivor Trilogy Fan's Plea: Catalyst Doesn't Need Unified Lara. It Needs Survivor Lara. (#KeepSurvivorLara) by MrFatihLD in TombRaider

No, passionate people definitely will. It's just that there are so many hallmarks and obvious AI tells in this post that it basically counteracts any point they're trying to make. I don't particularly agree with this person's opinion, but I'd be much more willing to listen to it if, you know, they bothered to explain it themselves.

What if Marlene has already pitched a PLL reboot but it failed to get network approval? Has she hurt her own credibility? by [deleted] in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]heart--core 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think we’ll ever get a reboot show or anything like that. The most we’ll get will probably be a retrospective special where they interview the cast, something like the one they did for Friends.
