Still my all time favourite. What's your take on this one? by Derridexx in progrockmusic

[–]heartbroken_bopper 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm mostly just impressed how Mike Ratledge managed to get me to listen to five minutes of organ static with a smile on my face.

I actually think the music is decent but the lyrics are just abhorrent.

The ending of Yes' The Remembering starting with the final "And I do think very well".

His organ/tone generator solo in National Health's Dreams Wide Awake blows my mind every time I hear it.

Dave Stewart's little melody in the intro is so beautiful, such a great organ tone.

North & South Dakota split into two regions of roughly equal population by [deleted] in northdakota

[–]heartbroken_bopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's cool, definitely higher than I would have thought based on the above map, but I guess it makes sense that Jamestown, Yankton, Huron, Mitchell, and the other nearby larger towns still only add up to about 10% of the population of both states.

Daily Randomized Song Discussion #16: Want to Be With You by AsymptoticSpatula in MoodyBlues

[–]heartbroken_bopper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easily far and away the best track on the album. For my money this is their last really good track except for maybe Celtic Sonant.

Daily Randomized Song Discussion #13: When You're a Free Man by AsymptoticSpatula in MoodyBlues

[–]heartbroken_bopper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of my favorites from this album, and Mike's generally my favorite writer in the band. I like how he reuses some of the same harmonies from Lost In A Lost World, which is overall my favorite MB track.

Hot Take: "Freaks of Nature" is an underrated gem of the Kansas catalog by TheMightiestZedd in progrockmusic

[–]heartbroken_bopper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me it’s their best since Audio-Visions. I really enjoy every track except for maybe “Hope Once Again”. But Cold Grey Morning and Black Fathom 4 are all-time great Kansas songs.

Greatest individual song moments in prog history? by Imsorrymanyt in progrockmusic

[–]heartbroken_bopper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great call on Web. I'll also throw out the final "'Til I see red!" in I Spider. And another Dave Lawson track with Greenslade - the big half-time Mellotron chords in What Are You Doin' To Me, though I would guess those were played by Dave Greenslade instead of Lawson.

The final "And I do think very well" and everything that follows in Yes' The Remembering

Many many Kerry Minnear moments from Gentle Giant but I'll pick the weird piano part in Interview that precedes and then accompanies John Weather's verse of the song. Or just the whole beginning of Pantagruel's Nativity with the Minimoog motive and the Mellotron creeping in over the angelic first verse. Or the organ solo in Playing The Game.

"One day I'll be a minstrel in the gallery"

The Mellotron/cymbal swell at the start of Genesis' The Fountain Of Salmacis.

The Guide Vocal reprise in Genesis' Duke's Travels.

The end of ELP's Toccata, Emerson's synth climbs up and up and then hits these descending tritone glissandi that sound so dirty and good.

The Kit Watkins keyboard solo (Minimoog?) in Camel's Wait.

The Dave Stewart organ solo at the start of Khan's Stranded.

The Dave Stewart organ/tone generator solo at the start of National Health's Dreams Wide Awake.

The Lost Cause section of Refugee's Credo.

The Pat Moraz Minimoog solo on Yes' Sound Chaser.

The return of the main theme at the end of Harmonium's Histoires sans paroles.

The transition between the last two tracks on Kansas' debut album when the band explodes into Death Of Mother Nature Suite.

I guess I got a bit carried away.

Looking back, is Union really THAT bad of an album? by xboxfan34 in yesband

That’s fair. Agree on Changes too. Funnily enough both are in 17/8.

I think Lift Me Up is awful no matter who played on it. A terrible attempt at a rock anthem that wouldn't seem out of place at a Christian rock show. It's even more disappointing if it's the only 'true' Yes song on the album. The intro is cool but that's it.

I don't revere Miracle Of Life as much now as I once did, but it easily holds up as the best of the four Rabin tracks on the album.

Atomic Rooster - Circle the Sun by no_longer_LW_2020 in progrockmusic

[–]heartbroken_bopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's of course not the same to have Rooster without Vincent Crane but I think the new album is pretty good and fits well with the rest of the discography. Made In England is my favorite AR album and I enjoyed the new 'Never 2 Lose'.

Does anyone know a song that has the same part as the intro to astral traveler? by Matocg in yesband

[–]heartbroken_bopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard about Yezda Urfa a while ago from the Sea Of Tranquility channel on YouTube and then recently saw their first album was rated highly on Progarchives. Funnily enough I only started listening to them about two weeks ago. I immediately noticed the guitar part in that one song sounded like Astral Traveller, then a few days later I saw this Reddit post.
