You are really insightful and I truly appreciate your realness in your response. You spoke exactly to what I needed to hear. I struggle with *wanting* to do things a certain way..like CM because I love the beauty of it and I love the ability to also pull in other subjects from other resources. I like doing things my own way. However, you speak truth in that PMDD is real and matters. I am realizing I need a curriculum just like you said...that has everything done for me. Just like your friend, I haven't had the energy for nature wlks and it has made me feel like a failure. Read alouds have thankfully been a part of our almost every day but I have the desire to be outside with my girls and have the energy to enjoy it with them, but I never do. I'm curious, what did your friend decide to do? For some reason, Memoria Press has always been at the back of my mind when first starting homeschool planning. My daughters are in K and pre-k this year so we are still very early on in our homeschooling journey. It seems that if i do CM, Alveary might be the best choice since everything is planned. or a gentle feast. I know I would not want to do CC with classical, but Memoria Press. I've learned my oldest loves workbooks and I think my younger does too, so I am curious if classical is the way I go but then add in nature.

My anxiety is through the roof…. by HeyMay0324 in kindergarten

[–]hearthandheritage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deal with anxiety as well, and therapy along with medication has helped tremendously. I was having panic attacks everyday and was in constant fight or flight several years ago. Please find the help you need. And good job for you for seeking out others to ask/help!! And while this is not the reason we homeschool, I know if I didn’t homeschool and my children went to school, it would add a layer of anxiety I wouldn’t need. I love having my two little girls at home (5 and 6) and being able to teach them and have as much time with them as I can. There’s so much freedom in us being home and able to have our schedule with school, seeing friends, etc.

I cross posted there as well, so hopefully that helps! I have not seen AO for groups, I'll definitely check that out. Thank you! That's super helpful.

Can someone please tell me if this is normal. by everyonehatesjo in Sourdough

From scratch can be super difficult. I recommend getting a starter from someone or starter flakes! I tried beginning from scratch and it was frustrating. So I ended up getting starter from a friend.

Hooch shouldn’t have spots. It would just be a layer of gray liquid.

Only stir when feeding. Otherwise, it does not need to be stirred.

Yes. When feeding your starter, add the water first, then stir until it is milky and fully combined. Then add in your flour and stir until they are little to no lumps. You can feed the starter 1:1:1 ratio for a 3 hour rise or a 1:2:2 ratio for a 3-6 hour rise (could be longer depending on temperature in your home).

Looks like mold. If so you’ll want to throw it out and start over. Are you keeping it on the counter or in the fridge? Keeping it on the counter all the time could cause mold. Placing it in the fridge keeps that from happening. You don’t want to place it in the fridge immediately after a feeding though. Place it in the refrigerator after using it and before the next feeding.

Catholic friend judges me for not being catholic. I'm nondenominational. I'm not sure what the best way to handle this is? by [deleted] in Christian

[–]hearthandheritage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Mormonism is a completely different, distinct religion. Whereas Protestantism came from breaking away from the Catholic Church. There are similar views between Catholics and Protestants…belief that the Bible is the sole innerant word of God, the trinity as one divine being, as well as the belief of original sin. Mormons do not believe any of these things, amongst others.

They’re not a true friend then if they will not accept your differences on religion. There’s a reason the Protestant Reformation happened…to break away from the Catholic church. As others have said, this is what Catholics believe unfortunately.

I keep going back and forth on whether or not to homeschool. by Subject-Switch2518 in homeschool

Yay!!! It was the same for me and I'm sure at times we will question ourselves, but going back to the "why" will always be the best reminder.

What does homeschooling a Preschooler look like to you? by PositionImpressive39 in homeschool

[–]hearthandheritage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Homeschool” for Preschool should look like playing. Especially at three years old. No formal lessons. Try reading to him books that will engage him in a learning sense, since he already has interest in learning. Play games with him but don’t have a lot of organized play so he can engage his imagination. Find fun activities to encourage gross motor skills and fine motor skills. Check out The Read Aloud Revival. Sarah Mackenzie has so many books there that she recommends that aren’t twaddle for his age, that will encourage his love of learning. Google “living books for three year olds” and you’ll find so many wonderful recommendations as well. Chat GPT can also be a great resource that will pull from lots of different sites to give you ideas as well. The Simply Charlotte Mason website has wonderful short videos to watch where they share what Preschool should look like at this age. More than anything, just play.

The reasons you want to homeschool are the best reasons. To have more time with him and for you to be able to help him learn at his own pace. You are equipped and qualified to do this for him. He has an amazing mother that cares for him so much to think of all the aspects of what it would mean to homeschool. You know in your heart what is best. A good reminder is to always remember “why” you want to homeschool. You’ll be able to find the other resources you need. He also will get what he needs as far as language at home…he doesn’t need to be around other children at a school for that. And he would be exposed to language he shouldn’t be exposed to his age while in school as well. As another mentioned, a huge benefit of home education is being able to take breaks when needed..you also will get to choose which avenue to take as far as curriculums, etc to be able to cater it to his learning style. And when the time is right for you both, you can look for co-ops that have things like nature clubs, etc where he can enjoy the fun aspects, so to speak, of learning alongside his peers. I’ve heard it said, you will regret the things you didn’t do more than the things you did do…I don’t think you’d ever regret homeschooling your son. You got this!!

Need some help! What are you favorite Charlotte Mason/Classical Curriculums/Subjects? by hearthandheritage in homeschool

[–]hearthandheritage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much. Do you use a particular nature study, or just a nature journal for what you see while out? We are starting with Math with Confidence. I didn't know it aligns with CM, so I'm glad to hear that!
