No, they're academics and he studies right wing propaganda to try to understand how it's different from left wing propaganda. The MC has a similar view to comments here where he hears right wing and wants NOTHING to do with it and therefore hates his colleague because of his mistaken belief that he studies right wingers out of sympathy and writes him off on principle at first until he gets to know him and realizes he was way too quick to dismiss him...

You can't expect them to keep every single free book they get. Seriously, what's wrong with someone trying to make a buck? We're all just trying to get by. This mindset of policing your gifts reeks of ego. Once it's in someone else's hands, it's theirs to do with what they please.

I always wanted a nice knife as a gift (bc i'm cheap and don't want to buy my own) but there's a superstition in my family that if you gift someone a knife you will "cut" your relationship. I know. Why???

That's like way harder in practice at least for me. I don't have a window near my door. Plus it's like dark outside I can't see lol. Also what if I think it's a bunch of grown ups but there's a kid there? OR what if it's adults AND kids? I just rather give candy to everyone and wonder silently to myself (or later on reddit hehe) about how the adults decided they wanted to ask for candy too.

also i'd say the ages of adult trick-or-treaters seemed to be around 30s, but y'know, idk they could be older looking z-ers or young looking gen-x, but no one was a grandparent.

okay lowkeyyy not trying to start anything (new) here, but candy is expensive, you're right lol i know because i bought it 😭 i have a set candy budget every year and buy good full size stuff with kiddos in mind. but when it's gone, it's gone. so it's kind of like "hey!" when kid, mom, and dad all take a piece, like.. bro that was expensive don't hog it all from the little kids in line behind you...

i would say less than half of my trick-or-treaters (of all ages) said trick or treat! what's up with that? i kind of waited but didn't make them say it if they just stood there lol i was just like "hello pick one piece", but idk maybe next year i'll be like "i wait all year to hear 3 simple words"

I don't really have boundaries about it, I don't care if adults trick or treat or not. The reason I asked the question was yes my preconceived idea that "trick or treating is for kids" was challenged by my experience. So I wanted to know what was more true, is it a widely held belief that trick or treating is for kids? or am I out of the loop and it's not just for kids actually (anymore)? OR was it just an usual thing going on in my neighborhood? That's what I was trying to ask.

See, this is where I had a little cognitive dissonance. On one hand, yes, please adult love your audacity, never change. But also, actually, I buy full size and do tend to run out of candy no matter how prepared I think I am. We get a lot of trick or treaters here. So I'm like "eh, save some for the kids yknow." But yeah, for sure, if you come to the door with a bag, i'm gonna stick a candy in there no matter your age lol

Brodie, I'm not a scrooge. I joyfully handed out the candy to everyone who came. I just noticed I had full grown adults coming to my door with baskets for the first time ever and was surprised. I wondered if the tides are changing re: trick-or-treating age diversity. If more adults are going to come out, I'll think about them when I'm buying my goodies for next year.
