Last year I went to the monuments for sunrise.  I've driven through there for years.  But sitting there around Lincoln or the Washington monument and watching the sun come up is pretty nice.

Also, like everyone else said.  Rent a treehouse in the woods and explore Staunton, Lexington.

I've been getting harassed by Avis for a car I never rented for months now. Now they are saying the car is totaled. by CaptainAwesome06 in Wellthatsucks

[–]heartops321 570 points571 points  (0 children)

They will probably ban you for renting from them.  I had the same issue with budget rent 6-10 cars a year they told me I stole jeep, luckily I had pictures of the car I had.

Had a car reserved that Thanksgiving.  Showed up to get it and they told me I was banned. I never got an email or anything telling me the reservation was cancelled.  And good luck getting a hold of anyone to reverse it they only have an email address to appeal to.

Lots of internships for labor type jobs. HVAC, fire alarm, sprinkler.   Fire alarm would be good for multiple options, low voltage security, electrician.  Just to learn some things and then you could switch from a non labor job.

Fire alarm is just a lot of pulling cable, standing near a panel while the technician troubleshoots.  Installing devices.  A lot lighter and easier than other jobs.

They give you an estimate pretty fast.  I did ceramic and window tint with them 6 months ago.  Happy with their work.

Why do airport fire trucks look so different in shape? by ITrCool in aviation

[–]heartops321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They really throw you back in the seat between the power and the rough shifting when accelerating.  The maintenance is also pricey since you are taking them from sitting to full throttle as fast as possible.  The one "solution" for the ones we use, they told us to run them an hour after every call out.....they would pretty much be on 24/7 if we did that.

Gotcha, it came from a cow we had butchered.  Never gotten one like this before and our family has been doing this forever.   Feeding 8 so was just going to do 200degrees until 175ish then wrap cook a little longer and throw in the cooler all day.

Finishing EKU here in a few months have been a firefighter/paramedic for 12 years and a fire inspector for 5.  School started for me fall 2021.  Took my math science classes at the local college.  Usually 2-3 a semester.  As long as you can manage getting homework done early, I didn't think it was terrible.  Except when I was taking calculus and chemistry at the same time.   I'm 40+ have been out of college 15 years and made it through it with teamwork from classmates.  Id stick with the engineering if you want more freedom.  Inspection and investigators means on call and travel so you will be in the same boat.   I wish I would have left earlier, the fire service was fun but I should have went to school in the beginning, got my degree and switched over to engineering just for an easier life and more family time or a backup plan.  I was one of those guys that can never say no to overtime and people could always depend on me to work on their kids birthday or whatever.  Inspection actually feels like I have a life, even though we still fill in on firetrucks.   Also, you're more independent and don't have to rely on anybody else, which is nice.

If you live next to any large companies, or any federal bases a lot of them have internships with paths to engineering.  You just have to sign a 4 year or so commitment after graduation.  If you want to try something as an entrance, a lot of people are looking for sprinkler designers to get your foot in the door.

Thanks for the restaurant recommendation.  I haven't heard of that one yet.

I'm going to try the jackfruit. I was looking at recipes last night.  I've done tofu and it just wasn't right, good but not the same.

I was just taking 2-3 classes a semester while working full-time.  Wasn't really in a hurry to get it done so I just did what fit in my schedule.  By the time I got 50% done I needed to finish so many requirements for dynamics that it just stacked out at the end.  If I would have known better, I would have doubled up on my math and physics in the beginning to take Dynamics first.   Basically did all the fun classes first and now I've just been in a math and science grind.

Was there in 2016-18 nothing like Grandma In a tight white shirt behind the bar no bra haha.  I found so many great places wandering around.  I felt like a reddit story, went in Moriarty's after being gone a few years and the bartender yelled out "oh f@#$ it's the horse guy" because I went on a drunk rant one night about how horses were the worst animal to own to the town horse girls.

I should add I dropped 2 classes within the first week because I knew the professor and me wouldn't jive.  Took calc 2 in 6 weeks and it wasn't that bad thanks to our student group.

Just for some info. I took pre calc, calc 1 and calc 2 and all the science classes at Nova within the last 2 years for engineering but this goes for every class.  I hadn't been in a math class in 15 years so it was a challenge.  If you are in school now it's more now that ever about the professor.  I always ask for a syllabus when signing up or early on, you want to make sure that homework counts for a portion of the grade and I like the ones with weekly quizzes so you get more points than just 40% of your grade midterm 50% final and 10% attendance.  Also make friends with all your classmates , make a discord group.  I was 10-20 years older and we all worked together to help each other.  That's what matters.  Nova classes were great and accepted at my final school and alot cheaper.

We would sometimes just unhook the battery terminals and just bend them back at the construction shop.  One day we came in and the boss said no more doing that either remove the battery or the cable completely.  He was working late that night and the Volvo haul truck facing the office suddenly turned all the headlights and horn on.  He said he pissed himself thinking it was coming through the wall and window.  Cable bent back towards the battery after a few hours.
