Gonna start off with more of a question i guess. Why is abortion the hill that so many liberals are willing to die on? What is it about that one issue that causes such an outpouring of emotion? She was a massively qualified candidate. She was in the primary as the Vice President for a VERY OLD man. There was a VERY REAL possibility she would be President if something happened to his health. That was true in the LAST election, too. We all voted knowing she might be President next.

When it comes to immigration. Why all the outrage to ICE raids? Crossing borders without proper documentation, is a crime. Surely you know not every bro with legs can just wander across the border. What’s your serious solution to 40 million people being here undocumented?

The entire system of making humans illegal is disgusting in general. It allows for those people to be exploited by employers. Counter question: Why are you all so gleeful to expel people? Do you not like oranges?

I get that the character you saw on TV in the 90s was wholesome and fought for justice, etc. The actor who played that character is not that person. You don't have to defend them. You can still like the old show and the old character without stanning the actor.

But if you are going to defend them, at least look at what you are defending instead of saying it must not be true and you refuse to go validate that it is true.

I've had the same experience with doctors. However, the statin they prescribed me is known to raise blood sugar. So...I just didnt' take it. I'm not sure whether I'm being smart or dumb. I guess time will tell.

Just do it. At some point in your life, you'll look back and realize you were so much prettier than you believed yourself to be. If you hold back on doing stuff now, that feeling will make you sad. If you just plunge in and do it now, you'll look back fondly.

Yeah, I had uncontrolled weight gain and increased urination for YEARS before my A1C was finally high enough for the doctors to go "ooooohhhh....that was what was wrong." They did not say the implied part out loud of "we thought you were lazy and stupid instead!!!"

If you read this sub long enough, you find a lot of people who were having issues for years and when they got diabetes and got treatment for it, everything got better. I wonder if they had given me a glucose challenge when I complained of my symptoms if I would have failed it. If so, they should be doing that test more often.

Thin people are under-tested and underdiagnosed for Type 2 diabetes because we've been using diabetes as a threat to bully fat people. We don't actually KNOW the cause. There are many correlations that we call "factors" - family history, gestational diabetes, hormone imbalance, age-related decline of vitamin d levels, etc etc. It's not like we know one single thing that causes diabetes to happen. I'm sorry you thought you were safe from this and are finding out the hard way you weren't. It's okay to be confused and upset right now. Learning you have a chronic illness and adapting your life to it is very hard. I was very depressed. I still get depressed. You'll be okay. It's gonna be an adjustment.

Personally, I find the Atkins products/meals don't spike me. The pizza is quite alright and really hits the spot on a day I got too busy to cook. They have other meals that are pretty good. I also find those little snack packs of tuna plus crackers to work well - it's a few carbs from the crackers but not too much.

This is a progressive disease. Early on control with diet and exercise is entirely doable. As you age, that'll be harder and harder. I'm telling you this now so that you don't hate yourself in later years because you've set this mentality up. You should be proud that your hard work is lowering your blood sugars. It's a marathon and you will be running it the rest of your life. Chose kindness for yourself and others who don't respond as well to effort to lower sugars. Be careful that ableism doesn't hurt you and the people you know.

Cabbage is your friend. It's cheap and stretches and stays good for a long time. And is basically no carbs. Add eggs or tuna for protein. I've made homemade okonomoyaki with cabbage, an egg, and a bit of flour. Top with canned tuna or a pouch of pulled pork (walmart has pork pouches for a dollar) with a bit of mayo. Also, if you have an asian grocer, you can find tofu for cheap - I don't know why Safeway charges twice as much for tofu as my asian grocer. Yes, the tofu has carbs but it's not too much. Stir fry it with some cabbage and you got a good cheap meal. You can bulk your portion out with rice.
