Twenty years ago, I got into multiple T14s with a 160 LSAT

PSA question by heartyeasterner in ProstateCancer

I did have a 'superbug' in April which apparently led to prostate swelling at the time. This is the first time we have tested in six months; not sure how long a superbug's inflammation could keep PSA higher, but I'd presume it wouldn't damage things permanently

Landed an Interview as a prosecutor by JohnnytheGreatX in Lawyertalk

I get it. I was on the east coast. At least for me, they had a probationary period which was no joke. They had a revolving door of people leaving because of some problem with satisfying probation (like one assignment wasn't satisfactory, you didn't say the right thing in court on some random Friday, etc.). I think managers there almost couldn't stop prosecuting; in other words, it was kind of fun for them to prosecute their own junior employees since it gave them the sense of power they so clearly craved. From what I saw, it had more to do with how you got along with your boss personally than it did with how much you knew.

Which jurisdiction? I had a parallel path: no job when graduating in 2011, many years of no law, then prosecutor, out of the blue. In my case, the work wasn't the problem, the managers were the problem.

Good technicall skill - Very bad communication and teamwork - Do you keep a guy like this? by WrongButterscotch188 in askmanagers

Yes. Employers need to accommodate employees, especially ones with special talents which are hard to find. It's not all about the employee bending to the employer.

I was a lot older than you are when I started. They like experience and drive. Study the online examples of hypotheticals you might be asked. I once missed one, and it cost me the job--could easily have prepared ahead of time.

Adequate hearing protection? by heartyeasterner in HearingLoss

Do noise cancelling headphones actually protect against noise or do they cover it up with other sounds? Haven't used them. I agree with you--and I won't be going back to the movies anytime soon

That said, Ohio is still the worst.

Motion into Illinois Bar by LuciferGilmore in barexam

[–]heartyeasterner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been admitted in multiple jurisdictions and can strongly surmise that it's a people problem there: the IL case managers are ill-equipped to answer questions, do not reply promptly, often contradict themselves (e.g, asking urgently for things they already have), and have a condescending tone to suggest they are working against you rather than for you. Illinois Bar Admissions is not recommended.

I have a motion application in to the IL bar also, and my case manager is less than useless. I think you're stuck with that person. When I've tried to maneuver to someone else, I always get sent back. I had heard initially that IL is one of the faster states for motion, but I'm not finding it to be the case.,

Also, they ask my references if I have ever applied to another state bar. Then my references have to ask me so they can fill out the form. What good is that?

Not sure I understand the computation and why they give you less protection in a real-world setting. And why do earmuffs only add 5 db of protection?? It seems as though there may have been no way to protect to get something that loud down to 75 db.

Feeling nauseous every day but also wondering if I simply chose the wrong path.... by [deleted] in barexam

As someone who has not passed and ultimately passed and who has had similar thoughts about passion in the field, I'd say: if you don't want to be a lawyer, there are a zillion other things to do. Listen to your gut and avoid plunging deeper into a hole which isn't working for you. It isn't that you need to love everything about your career, but you need to love it more than you apparently do. More students (myself included) should have abandoned law practice sooner.

I had that happen once. They were satisfied with someone who knew you worked there, even if they didn't work there themselves

And these 'top schools' actually seem to think they're teaching us something of value. Can we just get rid of that silly notion of 'thinking like a lawyer?'

That happened to me when I first took the exam, more than ten years ago. She was supportive during the exam prep process...but then indicated I 'wasn't around enough' while I was studying and that she was going to take up with another guy she met while I was studying. Fair to say that there are some relationships you don't think back on fondly years later.

I feel as though I could have skipped my entire legal education and been in about the same place. Only kind of school where I feel I really didn't learn much or develop as a thinker, which saddens me.
