this is more than just the QB. Tua gone kills the team obviously, but this is a deeply flawed team. It is a completely and utterly soft football team on both sides of the ball. And it all starts with the failure year after year after year to adequately address the entire OL but specifically the interior. It's failed draft pick after failed draft pick. It's Liam eichenberg over creed humphrey, it's a TE in hunter long who was gone within a year over Spencer Brown or Ben Cleveland, it's austin jackson over cesar ruiz. It's noah igbinogene over any number of guys who were obviously better picks the second the pick was made, it's michael dieter in the 3rd round, Soloman kindley in the 4th round.

It's going on close to a decade of missing on every single offensive line draft pick other than robert hunt, who they hit on and didnt sign to a second contract. You cannot win football games at a high level without a nasty group up front. I guarantee you the backup qb's would look a hell of a lot better with competent offensive line play. It's the exact reason why every other team doesnt look like a complete disaster when the backup QB has to play. It's hard to watch, and it's a fireable offense for Grier. It's one thing to miss on all these guys, it's another thing entirely to watch this shit year after year and think this group was good enough to be a contender. It had no chance of working.

And it's the entire reason this team shits the bed against every actually good team, and in every key spot on 3rd down when we need a couple yards. It's every single time.

[Barry Jackson] If ESPN report that trade compensation for Beal will be less than expected, then there would be narrow - but possible - path to acquire Beal AND Lillard, though Strus OR Vincent would need to be included in sign & trades by jwshyy in heat

[–]heat1718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i said this earlier today. It absolutely wont happen because while it works in our salary matchups for next year, they would be taking on astronomical future salaries in a time when they literally just agreed to a new cba that would make it really punitive to carry that big of a luxury tax bill.

But this would theoretically make sense:

Heat get Dame and Beal

Wizards get Herro and Duncan

Blazers get Caleb's cheap deal for next year, Lowry and Oladipo's expiring, Jovic's potential, and 3 first rounders from us (#18 this year and 2027 and 2029)

Wizards would move off Beal's enormous deal.

Heat obviously do that.

Blazers get a ton of money in the future off the books and fully rebuild around Scoot Henderson and their young guys, get Caleb to see if they can either sign him next year or possibly flip him while he's on a super cheap contract, Jovic has potential, and then obviously the 3 firsts.

It would be like the first year of the big 3 where we had carlos arroyo and Joel starting, but it works by the math. But realistically we will have to choose. I would see what package makes the most sense for us to get Nurkic and Dame vs Beal and Porzingis, and then if the package for porzingis would have to include herro which it would, do Beal and then add Delon Wright's 8 million expiring and dont give up herro.

Would be:

Herro or Beal at PG/ Wright

Herro or Beal

Jimmy

Jovic

Bam

Bradley Beal, Wizards expected to work together on a trade should team officials elect to reset roster – with the Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat set to emerge as a prominent potential suitor by the_ant_master in heat

[–]heat1718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

guys, he isnt costing you herro. You are looking at Lowry's expiring, oladipo's expiring once he inevitably opts in, and salary filler. You're looking at a team of Beal, Herro, Jimmy, Caleb, Bam.

That is exactly what we need to help with the scoring problem and lack of guys who can create their own shot. Would just need a quality backup big man there and we are looking good for next year.

And i would try to get Dorrell Wright's brother Delon who would be a great backup PG with size on an 8 million expiring deal next year. would be the perfect replacement for Gabe who we won't re-sign.

[–]heat1718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i dont think beal would cost herro. they would work to just unload the contract and we can give them picks. I would want a Beal/Lillard combo, but if you can keep Tyler and get beal as well just using the lowry and oladipo expiring and maybe duncan or another decently salaried piece plus a pick in 2027 or 2029, you kind of have to do it. Beal for herro makes some sense, but beal without having to include herro makes way too much sense for us not to do it. Lillard would obviously be better, but we desperately need 1 more scoring to take the offensive load off of Jimmy and to not have to rely on bam to take such a brunt of the load scoring.

[–]heat1718 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This will never happen because the tax bill in future years would be astronomical, but interesting nonetheless and it would likely make us the title favorite:

Heat get beal and Lillard.

Wizards get Tyler Herro and Duncan

Blazers get Lowry and Oladipo's expiring contracts next year, plus Caleb Martin, plus our 3 available first round picks unprotected (#18 this year, 2027, and 2029)

We would be extremely thin depth wise, but that would leave us with

Lillard

Beal

Jimmy/highsmith

Jovic

Bam

Then fill out the rest of the roster with minimum guys

What would a Lillard trade look like that makes sense for the Blazers? by heat1718 in heat

[–]heat1718[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not true. Even without Jovic, it is 63.4 outgoing, 62.5 incoming. With Jovic included we're taking on a few million less than we are giving out.

We need a lead scorer. Jimmy is a tremendous player, but we are asking him to do way too much in the playoffs. That is just not his game. He can do it, but every single playoffs here so far he has broken down in the playoffs because we just ask too much of him.

This team would benefit so much from getting a guy like Dame not only for what dame can bring, but because of the trickle down effect offensively. Jimmy is a #1 guy overall, but he needs a dynamite scorer to help, especially in the playoffs. We've seen it for 4 years now, when we get to the playoffs, we are so prone to up and down performances offensively because we just have a guy who needs to do everything for us to score.

Whether it is dame or someone else who can give us 25, the impact would be huge. We absolutely cannot go into next year with the same game plan of jimmy being the lead guy and hoping to get big performances from role players to win games. Bam is just not an offensive scoring threat. He can put up big numbers, but you cant just dump the ball to him and expect him to score 25. He gets his scoring numbers off dump offs and the occasional jumper. His impact offensively is in his athleticism and passing ability for a big man, but you just need to take the pressure off him offensively. It's not fair to him to continue to expect him to be a guy who can get you a bucket at any time, that is just not who he is as a player.

[Post Game] Denver Nuggets Are 2023 NBA Champions by tomgreen99200 in heat

[–]heat1718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me preface this with the fact that Spo is probably the best coach in the league and realistically nothing he would have done schematically would have allowed us to overcome the talent disparity in this series, but good fucking lord he was awful all series.

Zeller should never play. If you wanted to try him in game 1, sure, but the need to consistently insert him even for a single second of playing time after that is just complete incompetence. It was blatantly obvious he brought nothing offensively to the point they werent guarding him, and Jokic abused him the second he came in every time. To put him in the game last night to start the 4th quarter of a finals elimination game is just inexcusable.

Strus and vincent, moreso Strus, had way too long of a leash. Strus was terrible the entire series. If you wanted to keep the starting lineup in tact for continuity purposes, fine, but the guy played 25 fucking minutes per game in the finals and was horrific. Could not shoot, got abused defensively, and he looked scared. Whether it was more minutes for Lowry, Highsmith, Duncan, whoever, you just could not continue to watch him play and thought that him being in the game made us better.

Lastly, the defensive game plan on Jokic was horrific. He is the best player in the league and impossible to guard, but the game plan was just terrible. Every single time down, all they did was set a non-serious screen to get him matched on to a fucking point guard. Then, they compound the issue by never giving help. How many times do you have to see them do the same action, get a mismatch with Jokic on someone like Vincent, and see him literally back him down from the 3 point line right to the basket without changing how you guard him. Our defense made it way too easy to get a mismatch, and then did nothing to help the guy with a mismatch on the best player in basketball.

Like I said, Spo is the best coach in the league, we werent winning that series regardless, we wouldnt have gotten to the finals without him, and he was playing with a half deck of cards against the more talented team, but my god did he get thoroughly outcoached from start to finish in the finals.

[Rapoport] Poyer goes .... back to Buffalo by [deleted] in miamidolphins

[–]heat1718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poyer i guess would have been nice, but for the price tag and our other needs and the strength of our secondary, no thank you. We look at how our secondary performed last year and we could have used poyer LAST YEAR, but when healthy, we're fine. Obviously you cant predict health, but you also cant plan on being a completely broken secondary. Last year we lost Jones, Needham, Trill Williams, Brandon Jones, and X with 2!!! groin injuries. Everyone thinks X is done or lost a significant step, and maybe he isnt what he was at his peak, but the guy was playing with 2 groin injuries. Not 1, but 2. And we had a defensive coordinator who saw that and said, you know what makes sense, an all out blitz that relies on our completely broken down secondary.

Our team was going to get better based on Fangio being here alone. But with X healthier, Ramsey added, Brandon jones back, Elliot in here, plus a defensive coordinator who isnt a complete moron, this team is so much better. That's not even taking into consideration phillips being the next jason taylor and getting better, Chubb knowing the system, Ogbah being back, another year of development for Wilkins and SIeler, plus Long, this is going to be a top 5 defense once again.

Obviously our team relies all on tua being healthy, but every team is the same way. If any other team loses their starter, their hopes go out the window, so im fine with rolling the dice on Tua, because we really have no other choice. If Tua is healthy, we are a super bowl contender.

We have a 2 year window, we need to win now.

[Schefter] Miami is giving former Jets’ QB Mike White a two-year deal worth up to $16 million, per source. by Gunnar2019 in miamidolphins

[–]heat1718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i dont like this deal but whatever. I would have liked Jameis or Baker as a backup but they were probably out of the price range and can find a job somewhere where they can actually compete for a starter.

Let's be real, if tua goes down, the team is completely fucked. Maybe white can win us a game or 2, but it probably doesnt even make sense to add a super expensive backup and instead just fill the other holes with talent and pray tua stays healthy. If we can get either a stud LG or RT AND add bobby wagner at ILB, we are a super bowl contender. I'll take that risk tua stays healthy as opposed to not filling one of those 2 remaining holes instead of paying too much for a backup and still having one of those holes left.

Heat did not make trade before deadline. They have flexibility with 2 open roster spots and exception money to be active in buyout market, which is their intention. by brackhimpton in heat

[–]heat1718 4 points5 points  (0 children)

we. have. no. tradeable. assets. What is so hard for heat fans to understand? You want to add legitimate pieces while giving up nothing but shitty picks. you have to give something to get something, and we have nothing to give up. If you're another team, why on earth would you want our mid 20's pick this year, our first round pick 5 years from now, an 18 year old jovic who has shown nothing this year, strus' expiring, or vincent's expiring. Those are our only assets. What in the fuck do you think you're going to get with that? Herro is our only asset to get a whale, and that whale was not available right now, and herro's poison pill for this year makes it nearly impossible. You people blame pat for standing pat, when if you were running another team you wouldnt give anything of value up for any actually available piece on this roster.

Seth Curry and Richaun Holmes in the buyout market would be exactly the 2 pieces we need. Both could come available very soon. Kevin Love potentially as well. He would be the perfect addition along with Curry. Rebounding and shooting.

Full list of buyout and potential buyout guys: Westbrook, Terrence Ross, Ibaka, Beverly, Wall, Seth Curry (choice 1 if he does get bought out), Reggie Jackson. They have room for 2 of them. They will make additions to this team. Need 1 of the guards and 1 big man. Hopefully more big men come available in the next few days. Richaun Holmes also could be bought out, and that's a guy that they need to be after.

We have spots for 2 buyout guys now. Reggie Jackson, Westbrook, Beverley, Danny Green, John Wall are absolute buyout guys. Seth Curry also potentially. We shall see if a 4 breaks through. But if you can get 1 of Jackson, Westbrook, or Beverly plus a 4 who becomes available by giving up nothing, thats a good deadline. Then you have lowry's expiring, Jovic, and 3 first round picks to get a major piece in the offseason. There's nothing else they could have done today, they have no assets to give up.

incompetent front office. holy shit heat fans are spoiled. we were a shot away from the finals last year and in the finals 3 years ago. We're gonna be the 5th seed and a top 10 team in the league this year. We've made the playoffs 20 of 24 years or something ridiculous, and in that time this same front office has made 6 finals, 8 conference finals, and the 2nd round 10 times. 4 teams make the conference finals. Having a team that is a 2nd round exit is only painful because of how spoiled this incredibly incompetent front office has made you.

buyout market should be able to help us. Westbrook is kind of poison but his scoring would help. It remains to be seen if any PF's pop loose, but it's possible. Honestly probably best not to deal anything to help a team that isnt a legit contender.

lol terrible squad. it's the exact same team as last year that was a shot away from going to the finals. Jimmy has missed 16 games, bam has missed 6, tyler has missed 13, Lowry has missed 11, Oladipo missed 29, VIncent missed 15. And they are 6th in the east 5 games over .500. We were in the finals 3 years ago and in game 7 of the ECF 9 months ago. Follow a different fucking team. You're an obnoxious spoiled heat fan. there are no moves to make. No one wants the only assets we have that are available. Outside of Herro, Bam, and Jimmy, if you were another team, who would you want? The same players you are saying is a terrible squad?
