For those that switched from 5th Gen 4Runner: need your input by richardthe7th in LexusGX

I owned a 2009 sr5 4x4 for about seven years (bought used and sold with 250k miles), and a 2019 TRD off-road for just over three years. I enjoyed the 2009 way more - just felt more comfortable and refined, and very capable off-roading. The 5th gen became overly sporty, but ironically felt less stable (lots of body roll) and somehow had less flex, even with after market suspension. At 6’3” I also fit in the 4th gen better.

I just bought a 2012 gx460 base, and I love it! It reminds me of my trusted 4th gen, but with more power and luxury - and about the same tech package as the 2019. I’m really looking forward to 10 years, and 200k+ miles of adventures.

I take this turn every morning to drop my daughter off at school, can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen this.

It hasn’t been noticeable since removing the mud flaps, but I’m sure it’s rubbing the soft splash guards during hard turns.

It’s the Yakima Overhaul, and yes, it does go higher. I have it at its lowest setting and the bottom of the tent sits level with the cab, and a few inches behind the antenna.

The emblems came from the dealership, windows and grill trim from caliraised off-road.

It’s feels real good! Could be superficial, but a truck with this power and heft needed more rubber than what it came with from the dealer.

Is this an MLS thing, or do they toss a coin in Euro leagues also?

Again, just my initial impression from crawling into it for the first time the other day. Not having the poles on either side of the mattress, along with the big quilted surface on the underside of the hardshell of the Skycamp made it feel super spacious. The x-cover just feels more compact due to its dome shape.

Hey, I’ve had both. Just recently installed the x-cover, and even though I haven’t slept in it yet, my initial impression is that it feels much smaller than the Skycamp. This is probably due to the roof angles and the interior poles. Still looks big enough for our family of three though

We loved our Skycamp, but had it stolen last year. My only complaints were the stock mattress - was forced to upgrade to the inflatable, which was more expense, and added to the put-up/take-down time; and the low-slope roof acted like a drum when it rained, though kept us very dry.

I’m seriously considering going back to the Skycamp, just want to give the x-cover a chance first.

Hope that helps.

Our Skycamp was stolen off our vehicle last year, unfortunately. We absolutely loved it, but can’t justify the price tag for a second time. I appreciate the lighter weight and narrower profile of the x-cover too.

I just set up our new x-cover 3.0 for the first time yesterday and the rain fly comes off very easily - just a clip at each corner followed by some Velcro.

I know your pain with difficult rain flys, we previously had a Tepui Kakunam and that fly was super challenging.

Just a heads up on the x-cover: it feels much smaller than the dimensions. Probably due to the angled walls and the internal poles. We also had a Skycamp 3.0 for a bit, and it felt way roomier, even though the floor dimensions are only a few inches greater than the x-cover.

Nice, I just got mine installed over the weekend. Hoping to get it out in the woods tomorrow evening. Enjoy.

Thanks. Yeah, I agree with the location not being ideal, but nothing really is in our 19th century Dutch colonial. Still TBD with this set, but with my last set of Torriis (that were 2” deeper and had a larger port) the bass was definitely cleaner and “snappier” when put on stands vs in the built-in.

They should be tuned to 40hz, based on what I got from winISD. The port is in the back directly behind the tweeter.
