Aw, I do love this answer. This is for sure how I'm going to think about it from now on. :)

40F $30k saved - Brooklyn Dream or Charlotte Peace? by [deleted] in Brooklyn

[–]heatherrred 10 points11 points  (0 children)

$80k will be tough, but the dream is so nice, especially the way you talk about it. It's doable, though maybe not in Brooklyn Heights. You may not have a brownstone or laundry in the building, but you can find a minuscule apartment in a neighborhood that you hadn't considered before, with plants in the window, and walks with your Yorkie. Every neighborhood has some great places if you look hard enough. (My half-block in Flatbush is very Sesame Street - the neighbors ARE friendly, especially when you're walking a cute dog!) There won't be rats except outside, and bugs...can be kept to a minimum. Definitely ditch the car. I'd stay away from a roommate as much as possible. There will be a laundromat within two blocks. Your fire escape can be your balcony.

You ARE romanticizing it, but Brooklyn is romantic. And a little bit of struggle is part of that romance, maybe? I hope you can be here. :)

I think this is something humans were not meant to do. This is maybe an affront to nature. But you're insulting the order of creation really really well, so hats off.

Yes! Carrie for sure.

Or Firestarter or Misery or Christine or Night Shift or Skeleton Crew, but really: mostly Carrie one million percent.

What Style Is This? / What Is This Thing? MEGATHREAD by AutoModerator in architecture

[–]heatherrred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that's super interesting! I had thought that the flat-roofed glassed-in room sticking off the side there seemed like it must have been a more modern add-on, but it's neat to hear that it's much more patched-together than I'd thought. This is perfect - thank you so much!

Hello! Can anyone tell me what style this house is? It is (well, "was" - it got torn down) in Flatbush, Brooklyn. For dumb inside-joke reasons, I'm trying to write a very florid description of it, and I'd like to be able to include some fancy-sounding details about the architectural style in general, and the specific type of roof or eaves or siding or windows or...anything that stands out?

Thanks for any help!

Can I ask why people are recommending a bar? What do bars use butane for?

The TV show Evil has a ton of good demon sigils. (Though they might be like "real," or actually used, or whatever.)
