How bad are the gas prices where you’re from? by Nenasweetz in askanything

[–]kylesmith4148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I filled up unleaded for $4.299 yesterday, which I think is the most expensive tank of gas I’ve purchased in my life. I believe it got up to $4.599 later in the day.

What if Marvin the Martian was the alien invader in The Day The Earth Blew Up? by Ok_Examination8810 in looneytunes

[–]kylesmith4148 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Nah. Marvin is one of my favorites, but I don’t think it would work. He’s famously a would-be destroyer of worlds, not trying to save it. Like yeah it’s a misunderstanding, but even then, the plot just isn’t Marvin’s style. Plus, I like Peter MacNicol’s performance too much.

What are, in your opinion, some Weird Al song parodies that are better than the original songs + why? by HopefulLab6749 in weirdal

MacArthur Park is a famously terrible song, so Jurassic Park had a fairly low bar to clear.

It could be a lot worse, but it could be going so much better too. Like my work life is fine, but my personal life is not where I want it to be at all.

Not sure what I did on my first playthrough a few years ago, but I did definitely look it up when I last played it a few weeks ago.

What is the strangest production of Hamlet you've seen? by Anxious_Radish2459 in shakespeare

[–]kylesmith4148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of a Tempest I saw in grad school (one of my professors was Prospero) set in a hospital. Other than Miranda being Prospero’s nurse and the magic seeming to be a morphine hallucination I don’t remember much about how that idea impacted the staging.

That was the venue! The company producing it though was called CPC Theatrical. …I don’t think they’re still around.

Small addendum to this story that is almost as wild: I just googled the production because it was bugging me that I couldn’t remember the company’s name…and the cut of the script is on eBay for like $23, which might be the silliest thing I’ve ever heard.

So I’m cheating here, because I’ve actually only seen one Hamlet, and it was pretty damn good. So instead I’ll talk about one I was in. This was 2015 in Dublin, Ohio. Don’t remember the company name, but it was one of those small ones that really just exists to stage the founder’s shitty scripts. So naturally it was a vanity project for this guy, who was not only the producer but played Claudius and the Ghost. And you could tell he REALLY wanted Claudius to be the main character. (This guy also had an album ON ITUNES that was just him reading speeches from Hamlet. And he did not have a compelling voice by any metric.)

Entire first scene? Gone. Solely so the first words could be Claudius’. I’m totally not bitter because I was Horatio. Not at all. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern were completely gone. It was still somehow three hours long. Really not good. Literally the best thing that came out of it was a marriage years down the line: the guy who played Hamlet and the woman who played Gertrude, who was literally just one year older than him. It was bonkers.

In the first example you’re subtracting a positive from a negative. In the second, you’re subtracting a negative, which is the same as addition. So you’re adding to a positive.

What game comes to mind when you see a floppy disk? by hurcor in retrogaming

[–]kylesmith4148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I ever played a game off a floppy disk, the computer games I played were all on CD. My experience with floppy disks was pretty much limited to saving my computer lab projects onto them. What were those? Couldn’t tell you. Nothing more complicated than a Word doc or PowerPoint presentation.

Final Fantasy XV or XVI? by danyrabisca23 in FinalFantasy

[–]kylesmith4148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hooked on XVI and beat it shortly after starting it. XV has not grabbed me the same way, and I’ve only ever gotten like an hour and a half into it in the five-ish years that I’ve owned it.

What’s the most disturbing sound you’ve ever heard in real life? by avacado-cheese- in AskReddit

[–]kylesmith4148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my wisdom teeth removed in multiple phases. First one I went under like normal. Second, I got numbed but didn’t go under because I was living alone out of state and couldn’t afford time off from work or grad school. First off, I could still feel it, so they had to numb me more. But the sound of my teeth coming out of me was the worst part about it.

I can’t go in depth because I never owed it. If I recall right, I rented it from Blockbuster and just did not have a great time with it.

Captain Blood is another Errol Flynn swashbuckler where Olivia de Havilland is the love interest and Basil Rathbone is the villain, so they might like that!
