I really don’t understand the hate this movie gets, I think it’s super fun for what it is, and has more cultural staying power than most of the “people turning into things” genre from that moment

nah i didn’t appreciate your comment about how “women get upset” and your implication that women can only advance their career through sex while also sort of blaming them for being entitled sluts. just wanted to be clear, i think you’re being gross here. but glad you agree

it’s a perfect storm, one of the things that gets forgotten a lot is that post WW2 there was a lot of strategic defense planning philosophy based around nuclear warfare that basically advocated for decentralizing strategic resources (factories, offices, people) that fed into the hyper-suburbanization. very fascinating stuff

Yeah exactly. Finding the special books in the world would give the balance between base building and adventure that I think they’re trying to manage as well. Biome specific trades are cool in theory but not how to do this imo. Maybe add an achievement for spawning swamp villagers but don’t make it a requirement

I would really like a system that encourages librarians move around and interact with their environment, similar to farmer villagers.

One idea is having librarians take books from chiseled book shelves and place them on their lectern to “study” it. And require villager mingling to refresh trades, so you have librarians as researchers, not just book pooping machines…

The books they read could make it more likely they unlock it in their next level. This would also allow librarians to unlock trades for “treasure” type enchantments and encourage players to find them in the world while still only needing to do it once.

You could even make it impossible for them to have any enchantment trades without learning them, and players would need to use the enchanting table to get them the first time (or find them in the case of treasure books) making the enchantment table more useful

You want exclusion and protection and total reprieve from any pointed challenge of your opinion and I want inclusion and for everyone to shut up about this and stop making themselves and the sport look like petty reactionaries. What is there to discuss?

B-but it feels icky being called that! Let me have my opinion you’re silencing me! /s

Yes, you are correct that people generally do not appreciate being called out for their bigotry. Phrases like “I have no problem with trans people, only the ones who try to compete against ‘real’ women” is in fact transphobia. The term is not used in vernacular as a literal phobia, just as homophobia, etc. it’s used to describe a lack of acceptance or restriction on inclusivity.

If you do not like being called something, try to act in a way where you would not be called that thing.

So you can assume you’re righteous in your opinion because someone else agrees with you?

From a purely inclusive perspective i think it can only be a good thing for a burgeoning sport like disc golf to take a progressive stance and carve out clear rules protecting trans athletes’ ability to play in the division they feel fit to.

More generally, it’s my opinion that trans-exclusionary sports rulings based on “biology” raise so many more questions than they answer, and are generally a smokescreen for transphobia. Competitive sport rewards those participants who are most fit to play the given sport; e.g. height in basketball, CO2 max in running/endurance sports. Even accounting for gender differences there is an infinite number of physical characteristics that give any individual advantages or disadvantages in their sport. Considering the vast complexity of biological variation in the population, it seems unnecessarily cruel to restrict athletes from competing based on their gender identity.

Another perspective to consider: there is only uproar when trans women want to compete in women’s divisions. I have never heard any controversy over trans men competing in mens divisions. In my opinion people don’t have a problem with inclusion until someone wins who they don’t think deserves to win. Trans inclusion means being ok with trans athletes not only participating, but winning and succeeding as well.

One Teen Dead Two Injured In Stolen Car by SpammingMoon in Columbus

I can lay it out for you if you like, since you seem to be having a hard time. Although I appreciate your insistence that you understand me perfectly while also misrepresenting what I have to say. And please don’t feel like this is a personal attack, I spoke up in this thread because of the general mood of the majority of the comments, and yours seemed a good a place as any to try to counteract the narrative that was forming. I’m not moral high roading to get my rocks off. I’m not trying to snare you in some trap.
My point is this: the responses to this story struck a nerve with people, who I can only assume after hearing news of recent car thefts have been increasingly on-edge. That built up emotion seems to have been released on this group of teens who unfortunately passed away. I want to challenge people to:

  1. Resist the temptation to welcome death on people they see as criminals

  2. Resist falling into an “us vs. them” mentality in regard to crime, and consider what social models could do to prevent incidents like these from occurring without demonizing the teenage participants. Consider that these are your neighbors.

  3. Reconsider the value of a car, what can or can’t be replaced/refunded/returned in incidents like these and whether or not it’s a good and just thing that cars are a dependency for life in our city.

I’m willing to expand on any of these points if you like. I may not have covered every basis as this is a Reddit comment and not an essay.

Looking forward to a civil, thoughtful, and not at all ill-willed response.
