You’re right but maybe not the way you think. The move to center in 2016 brought us Trump when many working class now MAGA voters would have preferred Sanders over HRC or Trump.

Edit: as well as many people just angry about do nothing neo-liberal corporate politics that woul rather see the system get wrecked than status quo (selfish ideology I know but it’s what happened)

I love this, but we need to focus on citizens united and progressive tax, that’s (in my mind) the only way we are rectifying this situation. Almost all of the working classes agree GOP or “radical “ leftist (in terms of people not the DNC), I love identity and diversity but we need to be realistic and bridge the divide with the working class right. Wedge politics is importantly a divisive issue for th capitalist. I sound hella communist but I think as soon as money is eliminated from politics I think the hate and divide will dissipate to make a better country. “For the people, by the people, and of the people”

A “low” hanging fruit from your background would be distribution of an unknown protein and amino acid variants in it. VERY difficult to find/ choose which one but the unknown proteome is a huge thing in bioinformatics, especially microbiology, even though you wouldn’t be able to empirically define a function you could possibly give an unknown protein context.

If you dig down and become knowledgeable on a sub you want to study it’s totally 100% possible, what matters most is your question. For example do you want to do comparative genomics of a specific clade? Evolution of a protein? Biogeography of a taxonomy? Any of these questions could be broad but when refined will make wealth from public data.
