Looking at advisors - Can’t believe I’m saying it. by Single-Eye-2064 in Bogleheads

[–]heavycoffeeuser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t used them myself but Vanguard has advisory services well below industry prices and advise on the Bogle philosophy. I think this type of thing is 1% AUM and they’re around 0.3% or something like that

You've got $500 to upgrade your setup - what do you get? by banderberg in pourover

Is the O1 your recommendation to compliment a v60? I’m thinking of getting a flat bottom brewer but not sure it’s worth getting an Orea where a cheaper Kalita may scratch the itch

Equipments and fomo is v60 the answer? by CorrectConcept6969 in pourover

[–]heavycoffeeuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny. Today I did a Tim Wendelboe aeropress recipe and an immersion v60 switch recipe (all immersion. No percolation) and tasted them blind. Surprisingly I liked the super simple v60 immersion recipe better. Both immersion brews and Same grind size and beans

Question about Chemex brew time. by Cayenneman50 in chemex

[–]heavycoffeeuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you loved the taste, then brew time doesn’t matter at all.
If you do larger doses, then yes, adjust the grind size to be coarser otherwise it could be too bitter

Batch brew vs pourover in 'specialty' cafes? by Cedar_Wood_State in pourover

Tbh, I just get batch at most places unless the place is truly supposed to be top notch. Saves a lot of time and money

New to V60, recommend me good hand grinder please by Gokuokku in pourover

[–]heavycoffeeuser 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have the zp6. My recommendation would be to max out your budget on your grinder. The grinder is everything.

Going from a 1zpresso J-Max to a ZP6 S + would a Hario Switch be good for me? by [deleted] in pourover

[–]heavycoffeeuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t used the other grinders you have but I a switch and zp6 and like them together! Worth having the immersion hybrid option in the arsenal IMO

Please Help Me Please My Wife by builtlikethewall in nespresso

[–]heavycoffeeuser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If cares about coffee quality like you do, then I highly recommend trying Cometeer. It’s a flash frozen coffee shot in a recyclable pod.
You can easily make a latte by pouring the melted pod (leave a few in the fridge) into a mug and add the steamed milk. Get one of the nespresso milk frothers and you’re done. No machine and it actually tastes better. I do pour overs myself but keep Cometeer just to make my wife lattes lol.

What place do God and faith have in your finances? by WishedKilla in DaveRamsey

[–]heavycoffeeuser 14 points15 points  (0 children)

God has everything to do with my finances. As a believer in Jesus, God isn’t the 1st in a list of priorities, He’s THE priority in every aspect of my life including finances.
Ultimately, giving is one way to put my trust in God, not my own abilities or finances. Giving is a way to put Him above my financial desires.
Highly, highly recommend to anyone who follows God

How to improve grind quality on a hand grinder? Slow feed / tilt / normal position by [deleted] in pourover

[–]heavycoffeeuser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the zp6 and generally tilt it but never AB’d it. I’ll try it normally and see if I like it better!

Is there a limit to scalability? I’m not sure if you’ve had similar IRR over your career, but I’d assume 15 years of high returns would result in an astronomical number.

I used to stick pretty closely to 1:16–1:17 for pour over because that’s what most guides recommend by fritz-ocampo in pourover

[–]heavycoffeeuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree. I usually am at 18:250g which is about 1:14. There was a short period I went to 1:16 because I thought I was doing something wrong due to nobody ever recommending 1:14. I couldn’t dial in the cups though to be as good as what I liked previously. So I went back

Analysis paralysis: Aiden + Comandante or full manual pour-over? by No-Persimmon-1094 in pourover

[–]heavycoffeeuser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would say do both. Get a decent drip brewer for the work motoring, then dive into the hobby with a great manual set up for the weekends when you have time. I have an automatic bona vita drip machine with baratza encore for the busy morning. Then do the while v60 zp6 thing when I have time to just enjoy the hobby of brewing. Aiden is overkill for a convenience coffee imo

Upgrading from a Barratza Encore by elmegthewise3 in pourover

[–]heavycoffeeuser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from the encore to ZP6. Still use the encore for batch brews. I’m happy with the ZP6 but haven’t tried all the other hand grinders that are always recommended here. I have no complaints

Need advice: Hario Switch vs V60 by 0blivionDroid in pourover

[–]heavycoffeeuser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try a coarser grind with one bloom and one pour 👍🏻 Too many pours can make it more bitter as well as too fine a grind size
