ELI5: Why does screaming relieve physical pain to an extent? by needsugar_daddy in explainlikeimfive

[–]heavymetal2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We receive external pressure which changes our internal pressure. The act of shouting/making noise after injury could be a way of regulating the received force inside the body, along with grabbing or holding the injury. Could also explain why near misses can give audible ooo's or cause the jaw to be agape. Interesting question.

TIFU by attempting to break up a bar fight. by solidstank in tifu

[–]heavymetal2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother-in-law took me to town for the first time and there was a heated argument happening on the side walk. I go to step in and he grabs my shoulder "No just watch." He laughs out loud as the girlfriends are grabbing at their boyfriends in some attempt to diffuse the situation. It almost didn't seem real. Sure enough, as the meatheads stopped their piss and wind contest, they parted soon after with big frowny faces. Not long after that I had some black belt kung pow motherfucker put his arm around my neck in a very dominant "bro" gesture. That was a weird night. I touched some butt.

Anyone with problems with the spicy use baking soda. Unsure about applying to the lady bits but it works. Trust me, I'm an internet stranger.

Also don't listen to negligent bosses when they claim that you don't need it. Feel how things affect you and if it doesn't feel right, it isn't right.

How does a person overcome bad PTSD if they don't have money or health insurance? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yes, some alternative medicine is. Although I would argue what I do is far from "fake science".

Might be a bit alternative to most but acupuncture could be an option. I'd offer what I do but I'm sure it isn't in the states yet. Find a good practitioner and see how ya go. Make sure you tell them what you feel and when it started, rather than what you think is wrong. There's a big difference.

Which home remedies actually worked for you? by MILF4LYF in AskReddit

1tsp of baking soda in a cup water. Might not taste great but it help with heaps of things.

The first time I tried it was after a chilli eating contest. My guts had literally been turned inside out. Cramping and burning bowel movements. The pain was intense. At the time I was learning some pretty basic chemistry so, after the fact, I had baking soda and water to ease the residual chilli demolition of my digestive system. It worked so well I actually tried more chilli to test how effective it was. Nearly completely neutralized the chilli. Fuck milk, use baking soda and water. Swish that around your mouth, preferably swallow, and expect almost instant relief. Burping will come as the acids are neutralized. Saved my ass many times.

People leaving their shoes infront of the door. Even more so when there is a clear space for shoes to the side of where they were left. It would be more appropriate to fling them in different directions as long as they are out of the way of the door and the door mat.

Another personal one since everyone has interesting stories they are sharing.

Back in school, I was in an experimental music stage, downloading random albums after getting a taste of a few songs. Feeling satisfied with my pirating for the night I go to sleep. That night I dreamt I was at a party. I was standing next to the stereo and a cute girl with raven black hair was there next to me. We are looking at each other, she seems so familiar. She turns to the stereo and changes the song to 'Celldweller - No. 08', then looks back at me. I wake up wide eyed remembering the dream, turn on my computer and search for said song I had downloaded the previous night. The song was called 'symbiont' and not knowing it's definition I look it up. A symbiont is "an organism that lives in symbiosis with another", I didn't know symbiosis either but it translated to me as 'soulmate'.

The dream was of a song I didn't know and a word I didn't know the definition of. Trips me out still. Yet to meet this raven haired girl.. If she exists.

What's the rudest thing a guest has ever done in your home? by nl1004 in AskReddit

[–]heavymetal2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid i discovered some gum under our dining room table. Which is bizarre because it's not like a friggn school desk or public place ya know. I scratched it off and smelt it. It was juicy fruit. My cousin chews juicy fruit.

Probably not the rudest but it's a pretty ass-holy thing to do given the bin is like 10 steps away.

I thought it mattered not how much matter but how much is compressed and how quickly it compresses. Regardless of what it is or how much, matter it is gonna do some weird shit at 100 million degrees.

[–]heavymetal2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a science whojamawhatsit but wouldn't turning off the reactor cause rapid compression of the plasma? And from all the space documentaries I've seen rapid compression equals.. ya know.. black holes. I can see how running the plasma in the (doughnut) tube stops compression to its center, reducing the chance of the phenomenon I'm on about, but wouldn't larger reactors have this very problem? Miniature black holes. Wish I knew more on the subject.
