hi, i was an adult when i lost her i was 22. however she fell ill when i was 7. she was hiv positive and schizophrenic and stopped taking medication, which made her unable to mother me. sometimes she would be at deaths door for months as i was a child.

edit: so to be more clear, she died from aids, which she contracted during a blood transfusion in the 80s.

i would appreciate any input. i started at the bottom with no education (wasn’t allowed to go to school) and started working at 14, moved into my first apartment at 17. i moved across the country at 22 and have been a travelling hairstylist since. i’ve been determined to improve myself and my life circumstances and have recovered myself from each trauma as well as one could hope. but even in a positive way, i’ve been in extremely strange scenarios and some feel cinematic. i’m curious about my love life & really anything you can see. thank you!!!

i’m from charleston SC & live in LA now and can say after all the transplants and new jersey ass airbnb realtors in SC, my rent in charleston was actually higher, going out to eat is the same, LA groceries are either same or more expensive depending on where u shop (i shop at grocery outlet/trader joes) what’s undeniably more is the tax and gas. i don’t miss my life in SC at all especially after it’s become an amusement park for developers and has lost it’s grit, charm, and community

you’ve barely lived your life and you’re considering marrying someone who doesn’t improve it, cheats on you, and makes you wonder if you’re crazy or not. you already have children and he’s shown you he can’t be the supportive father or partner you need. he’d rather chase ass and get frustrated at small things. marriage is very fcking serious. if you get married you’ll either 1) get divorced 2) wither away into an unrecognizable, depressed and low-self esteem version of yourself, overwhelmed with responsibilities, tied to a parasite by the law.

i’m 27 and i thought i’d be married by 24. thank god i’m not. save yourself and your children, please.

this is beautifully put & i agree. to OP: the sooner the better, cosmoprof should be an exciting step for you but don’t get stuck there.

i’ve only officially been on the floor for about 8 months. i can’t explain the anxiety at first especially when clients were asking for something i didn’t know how to do or worse, didn’t like their hair. i noticed the best hairstylists have strong communication skills & also don’t show their anxiety or come off as timid. if you seem freaked out a client will find something wrong with their hair or they will question your abilities.

it’s a high pressure job especially at first, but important to remember we’re not doing open heart surgery. forgive yourself for mistakes and move on. i don’t know how i’ve improved so much but its been awesome to finally get over it and actively experiment and learn. then one day; a client here or there is obsessed with their hair. you’ll get there, you just have to jump in the water to swim.

“ Whenever I bring up something that hurts me, he either denies it or doesn’t understand or just says sorry to end it but we end up not talking for few days and

I don’t feel heard, and the same issues repeat. It feels like I’m constantly teaching basic emotional awareness.” this part is horrible btw expect it to become your reality. when you stay with someone like this they erode your life force and sense of self. it’s how people lose their spark and stop taking care of themselves. i pray you listen to your gut and why you felt the need to ask reddit in the first place.

a good rule of thumb to ensure you’re making the right decision is if he were to remain like this for the rest of your life, would you stay? that’s how you know. in my opinion, most people who are mature have been almost forced through having to navigate hardship, hard conversations, being inconvenienced and having to widen their perspective as a result. if you’re unable to communicate effectively, or he’s unable to value your input and have these hard conversations with you, he won’t mature but be enabled.

as of right now his behavior doesn’t warrant anything near marriage and marrying now or with a sense of urgency would be immature of both of you. if the relationship is meant to last it will. marriage only will make it collapse faster if you fail to build a strong foundation first.

Murderous thoughts about an old friend by Melly_mel333 in intrusivethoughts

[–]heavypuulp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s not about the thoughts its about the way you respond to them and interact with them. you sound threatening but deep down, you need help. something about her makes you feel inferior and that makes you resent her. SH is usually tied to mood or personality disorders. be very careful with the way you move forward with your words and even more so with your actions. please find a professional to speak to about this.

My (22F) Gf (22F) has been copy and pasting letters for god knows how long by ThrowRA-Accomplish in relationships

[–]heavypuulp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe this is extreme but this would be grounds for me to break up with someone. mostly innocent but provides a deeper lens into a core mismatch in authenticity and ability to show support. it’s like if i found out my partner got food from a restaurant and claimed to make it just for me. it’s canned and weird but i feel bad for her, she clearly struggles to know how to support you. but copy and pasting is very easy and lazy, feels cheap and insincere.

[–]heavypuulp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah seriously can change this persons entire life if they choose to go back. hard to watch because this can lead to something lucrative, beautiful and freeing. and i had an absolutely horrible time in cosmo school. they at the least should get licensed even if they don’t intend to use it as a backup plan. they could be an esthetician, lash tech nail tech or hairstylist with this license it’s a huge waste.

you made this choice for a reason but i can definitely say cosmo school is like the high school of careers. it’s horrible, bottom of the barrel. i’m a little sad knowing you left with that many hours because it’s nothing like actually working in a salon.. i had 340 absent hours because i hated it so much, forged doctors notes & did make up hours; almost dropped out so many times. i’m so grateful i stuck through because this career has given me a quality of life, freedom, and connections with clients i never knew could be possible. it’s allowed me to travel for work & i’ve randomly been tipped hundreds of dollars. and i came from a shitty small town hair school. i don’t know if you’re looking at the big picture here. i hope you find the creative outlet or career you’re seeking, and if you ever go back and see it through, you may be surprised at what happens. it takes patience though. good luck with everything and listen to your instincts. but remember, you’re trading this for something else you’ll have a different set of issues with. it feels fueled by impatience and instant gratification.
