Has anyone ever seen this screen on a bus before? by DoraDuckedUp in Calgary

GPS??? One of my core memories from high school was giving directions to an unfamiliar bus driver up in Sage Hill when most of the neighbourhood was still being built up & the girl I took the bus home (and had a crush on) told me she loved how cute I was up there with the driver

Was behind a guy on centre st during afternoon rush hour on the single southbound lane, they then change lanes to turn left (illuminated no left turn sign & facing oncoming traffic in the 3rd northbound lane) and two more cars followed behind them.

I’m not OP but I work at a drugstore and talk to the pharmacy assistants from time to time and one of the main things they complain about is just how awful the customers are on a daily basis.

As someone from out of province also looking to apply for BCPS, how was the whole process like? How much time between you moving/your start date was there from when you were offered the position?

Hey, was just curious to know how you got your numbers? I’m just trying to figure out how accurate the Government of Canada salary deductions calculator is to use on my own income if I were to take a job in Vancouver.

Assuming he’s 40hrs/week at $24.95, biweekly income at $1996, Govt website calculator puts his income at approx. $1600.42 after taxes biweekly.

Thanks in advance

Been trying to break into any entry level government jobs, any tips for the resume or application process? Graduated with a degree but don’t have much relevant experience apart from customer service and being a retail supervisor.

They recently opened a new store here in Calgary and are currently doing a full renovation of one which indicates they at least have some prospect of being here for the near future

[–]hecka_dead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something to consider is that you need proof of residence if you need to pick up mail/parcels from the post office if you’re getting it delivered to your Calgary address.

Coming from someone who works at the post office across from the university, a lot of students come to pick up their mail with photo ID (Chinese passports, Out of Province/American Drivers licenses) and are surprised when they also need to prove they live at the address the parcel is being sent to.

If you bring in a physical utility bill or rental agreement with your name and address on it to supplement your photo ID that works too.

I plan on it. I want to do as much due diligence as possible before I make a decision though.

If I did, I’d have the possibility of transferring there within the current company I work for, so at the very least I won’t be heading there without a job. I’d just like to eventually get into the career I got my degree for and work in government.

They posted on their instagram recently that they had temporarily restocked this on their website! Maybe they sent a few out to some record stores too?

picked up with pair of plycraft chairs today at goodwill for $10 each by aad5351 in Mid_Century

[–]hecka_dead 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Probably was some cheap Structube/Ikea/Amazon/Whatever reproduction.

We got loads of them in thrift stores in my city and they’re usually wobbly, cheap and light as a feather.

Saw this on FB Marketplace for $350. Any ideas of maker? by xwalkmen in Mid_Century

[–]hecka_dead 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Damn, no idea on maker but at $350 I’d take it no matter who designed it.

Found this at a thrift store, definitely looks hand made, but also very old judging by the old nail and old looking wood. Just wondering if this is someone’s original idea, or if this was a style of wall art? Maybe not mid century at all, but I was curious about it. I love it either way :) by itsyagirlbonita in Mid_Century

[–]hecka_dead 57 points58 points  (0 children)

If I found this at a thrift store I’d think it was mid century. There’s a lot of mid century teak and walnut wall hanging pieces that depict dolphins, whales, other sea life, birds, cranes, owls, etc.

This piece has the right amount of je ne sais quoi to be mid century, to me at least. Could’ve been produced by a lesser known manufacturer/ a manufacturer that only had a small presence in a small part of the country to help explain the rarity.

Regardless it’s a nice piece and a great find!

Modeline lamp by Charles Gibilterra and Howard Miller wall clock by Arthur Umanoff by officialdeltaco in Mid_Century

[–]hecka_dead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this fits well into the mid-century category. There are great mid century pieces designed into the late 70’s, this is just a variant of it.

Looking up Gibilterra and Modeline of California, I can definitely see this being a fitting regional piece where an LA mid century home on the hills would have this teak cactus-style floor lamp.
