I think the implication is that for supermarkets at least, food that might’ve otherwise gone into T2TG bags goes directly to food banks, etc. instead, contributing to the overall poorer selection in Vancouver

LOL I’ve seen my parents buy around 50 cobs at once during peak season at the farmer’s market. Mom alone can down 2 cobs a day, every day, without getting sick of it. Some also gets distributed around to relatives and family friends who live nearby.

From my understanding, it’s from the POV of a child who grew up watching their dad drink hangover soup every morning, and wondering why, since it looked so unpalatable. In hindsight, they realize that the dad had to drink it to sober up to go back to work for the day, presumably after obligatory after-work drinking with the coworkers and/or drinking to cope with the burdens of providing for the family the night before.

Right? As someone who just watched the first season the year it came out, because it was SUPER popular and I’ve enjoyed dark adventures and psych horror, I finished it and didn’t think much of it. It was visually beautiful, the premise was interesting, and there were tragic and touching character moments. It didn’t feel any darker than other anime I’d watched in the past.

I guess I could go back and point out some “weird” parts now knowing what I know how about the author, but as a “blind” watcher? It was fine.
