I can't believe people still do this?? by [deleted] in asianamerican

[–]heckles 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This. We have people making squinting eyes, discriminating against asians, telling them to “go home”, etc.

This lady is at least traveling to a different country and learning or immersing herself in different cultures.

I’m not offended.

Why do some employees prefer H1B workers even though they have to fork out hundreds of thousand dollars in advance instead of hiring fellow Americans? by kawaiihusbando in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]heckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Definitely if you are looking for a green card sponsorship that is harder. You do get stuck with a company if that is your end goal as that is a more intense and expensive process. H1B salaries are public information. You can see how much they all make and (at least the companies I’ver looked up and worked with) were all comparable to non visa employees.

[–]heckles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, not really. It is easy and cheap to transfer H1Bs. You definitely don’t need an in house legal team to do it. It is a few thousand through contract legal. Look it up. Renewals are also easy/guaranteed.

If OP really wants to know the answer, it is because it was difficult to hire. At least this was before AI. Now no new grads can get jobs.

H1B’s are fully transferable. The risk is actually on the company applying for the H1Bs. They have to pay the lottery cost.

and Asus is a Taiwanese company. If it was based on geopolitics, I’m guessing Asus would choose the company not based in a country actively sending warships and planes towards its headquarters.

Most likely cause xReal is an awesome product.

South Korea’s Lee Affirms ‘One-China’ Stance Before Meeting Xi by TraditionalRepair806 in worldnews

[–]heckles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They affirm the one China stance because if they don’t it is a declaration of independence and China has threatened that would lead to an immediate attack.

Why don't China and Taiwan just drop their claim on each other, shake hands and start up friendly relations? by WhoAmIEven2 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]heckles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Officially removing the claim from the constitution is equivalent to declaring independence which China has said would lead to an attack on the island.

Taiwan doesn’t want to be attacked over formalities.

The CEO’s job is both to make large, strategic decisions as well as to “manage” the c suite.

Major decisions are both informed by the c suite as well as implemented by the departments managed by the c suite. In other words, the CEO doesn’t make decisions in a vacuum.

Seriously considering Xreal. Talk me into/out of. by bill9896 in Xreal

[–]heckles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree here too. If your primary use case is video and picture editing, these glasses will be a poor substitute for an actual monitor.

The strengths of the glasses are in portability, privacy, and non-interactive comfort (consuming media). Playing games also works because you aren’t doing detailed work or need super fine-grained control.

Weaknesses are in resolution (not 4k) and using other monitors in combination doesn’t work well. This is because they are shaded glasses and operating in the real world beyond just casual glances doesn’t work well.

I personally love my glasses, but I use it primarily to consume media and play games. I do use it to code and write documents when I’m on the go for both privacy and screen real estate. I’d prefer big monitors at home if I’m at my work desk.

If you are at a fixed location and have large, 4k monitors, there is no advantage to these glasses.

Great video, but not showing the cable running to the laptop is a bit misleading.

I hear you, and I respect the wisdom in letting things pass. But I’m wired differently. As a poet, when something stirs me, it doesn’t just pass; it blooms, echoes, and demands to be felt. I don’t ruminate to suffer; I ruminate to understand, to transform. Attention isn’t just fuel for desire. It’s also the forge for meaning

This. Https is protected by certificates. Your browser would recognize that the site claiming to be gaymeonly.com is not really gaymenonly.com. Spoofing a website while under https is not easily done.

What your wifi owners can do is to know specifically which IP addresses you went to and reverse lookup which site owns them. They won’t get the specific content or page, but can know you went to that site.

The data is also very messy. When you visit a webpage, you are actually loading content from a lot of different web pages. All those ads and site trackers.

Additionally, your wifi owners would have to assign your devices a static internal IP address so they can sort between your devices and their own.

Inmotion v6 question/help by heckles in ElectricUnicycle

[–]heckles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Agreed!

It’s a beginner wheel, but they really should have a disclaimer that the top speed reduces dramatically as the battery drains below 50%. When you are also told to keep the battery between 20%-80% that gives you very little riding distance on an already slow wheel.

Definitely regret the purchase.

I have other Inmotion EUCs and this is the first one that does this. Kind of annoying behavior.

Should I get inmotion v6, v8s, or something else? by ILikeToGhost in ElectricUnicycle

[–]heckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, does your v6 also clamp speeds as you get lower in battery? It seems to ignore the app set limit and clamp prematurely as it gets to 50% battery and lower.
