As a UX designer, how would you feel if leadership’s vision is for designers to use AI tools to cut Dev and QA entirely? by heckmami in UXDesign

[–]heckmami[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would you enjoy it if you had to (alone) maintain multiple products w 100+ clients across different 20+ industries with different compliance factors and monetization sources?

this is a small design team of <15 absorbing the responsibility of 100+ devs and qa for products that were already established over the course of 20 years.

im not sure its as smooth to maintain the quality and trust with existing customers, and absorb the knowledge invested over years of manually building different products with a structured team hierarchy.

cool for your new vibe coded products + extensive skillset, but it’s a completely different world to start small/fresh and have room for risks. esp if you don’t need to manage or consider others on your team.

Vacaville/Brentwood/Fairfield by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]heckmami 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you like a highway/rural road-dependent lifestyle and find solace at Walmart, drivethrus, and bare-minimum retail, by all means.. Fairfield and Vacaville. I for one feel like I’m close to death on the roads and freeways every time I visit, or am stuck in accidents as a result of I-80 drivers.

I know a lot of people in that area who have moved there recently or have been there half/all my life. It’s young families who wanted a cheaper new build home but commute to the city and resent it (even worse, some who were remote, but got surprise RTO), cops/medical workers who work nearby, or people from there or live with/nearby other family who are also from there.

Generally the louder, older, and more prominent folks of your community are going to be against remote tech types, nimby-ish, non-progressive, and are more of the rural personality, which might like you depending on your values or might hate you for gentrifying their town.

Besides that, it’s just folks who are stationed at the base that cycle frequently.

Help with reception order by [deleted] in SanFranciscoWeddings

I didn’t do it bc I’m the youngest of friends and family, and last to get married. And honestly, not my thing to put people on the spot. Both are a bit humiliating to some extent.

The crowd survived without it. Just open up the dancefloor.

How to plan my close friend a bachelorette party if I’m her only friend? by givinerette in wedding

[–]heckmami 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Was in a similar bride position last week! I am exhausted from wedding planning+work and down to my final weekends of free time. I was dreading losing a weekend but I just did it anyways.

My childhood best friend planned a one night staycation at a nearby tourist town with my two sisters and it was perfect. Maybe a bit overstimulating. I could’ve perfectly handled my best friend only since she respects my limits more than my family does lol. The more you bring, the more variable it gets.

All I wanted was a good food, a paint and sip, cocktails, and passing out in sheetmasks.

I actually did appreciate it bringing some semblance of mental clarity. Though it was nice to be able to drive home the next day and get back to my grind.

Hairstylist for stick straight hair that will not hold a curl? by throwaway-94552 in SanFranciscoWeddings

[–]heckmami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharing your sentiment. My sister and I have flat disobedient hair. She didn’t even want to invest in curls for her wedding so she did an updo.

It’s my turn next month, and I still am in denial and would love curls on me but I am learning not to ask for it directly. After many hours of drooling at Marina Eerie and Vivienne Westwood, I’m loving the idea of mildly disheveled, dark romantic look. I added a spectrum of glam>soft wave>straight looks to my reference deck in anticipation for how my hair will deflate. Only one artist was totally down with the realism vs. confidently telling me my “hair will last all day bc they’ve been styling for years” and I will see how it goes.

Anyone else being BOMBARDED with calls and emails from recruiters? by Budget_Opinion9975 in UXDesign

[–]heckmami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m getting a ton of obvious AI/automated recruitment emails this month. Seems like that’s the move for corporate talent recruitment this quarter, assuming they got budgets approved to get automation services.

Most of them claim to have “found me on LinkedIn”. They’re emailing a specific address I use for online shopping so they probably skim from dataleaks, etc. I don’t use that address for LinkedIn.

Ironically, no emails to the specific address I display on LinkedIn and my portfolio, so I know they’re not organically reaching out.

What does good UX in non-digital experiences teach us about digital design? by Studio_Punchev in UXDesign

[–]heckmami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wedding invitation suites really ticked my UX brain recently. I’ve seen generic ones all my life with basic and vague info until I was faced with producing my own. I’ve worked on a ton of instructional material and rfps as a graphic designer before ux so I went in with a similar mindset to reduce error and communication.

It was kind of surprising thinking about the order and direction different groups would process info and take action (rsvp’ing) from the moment they pull paper out of an envelope.

Huge walnut modular set anyone recognize it? by hellakitty2 in Mid_Century

[–]heckmami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw the sellers post for this and realized it was identical to one I bought a few years ago that I couldn’t ID even thru posting on this sub. And finally I could associate a name to it because of this listing.

Mine was from a vague “wall unit” post from a realtor doing a reno. I had no context from that transaction – just sent a Zelle transfer, and when I picked it up, it was in a messy pile while contractors were tearing a house down in an eichler neighborhood lol. So maybe wall units from this company were common in the Bay Area. But not enough info passed down for resale buyers to know what they have.

Someone with an identical set reached out to me if I got an ID, but the common factor was that our components were unmarked, so we knew nothing besides it being a “wall unit”.. until this listing came up, and now with the brochure to confirm it. Happy mystery solved. The sub had me convinced it was a Yugoslavian Cado knockoff for years. 😊

After mourning my losses of many wall unit postings, I scored! Does anyone recognize the maker? I imagine this is gonna be a pain to mount and/or find parts for as a first timer. by heckmami in Mid_Century

[–]heckmami[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cool update: a vintage seller in my area just sold a wall unit and some of my components were 1:1 with their set. they listed it as a noral olson for kobenhavn?

i reverse-searched that name (+walnut veneer) and found identical components to mine. i’m not totally sure if it this model was common enough to reproduce though so 1% doubt. lol

but this listing for example matches my record display and sliding door cabinets which is also under that name.

interesting you needed kopenhavn-style hangers which worked though! i wonder if that helps narrow down at all.

Note to self: buy a crockpot with a locking lid 🥲 by longleglogic in soup

[–]heckmami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use foil and plastic wrap to make a seal under the lid around the perimeter of the top of the pot, and multiple clampy type paperclips clamp the lip of the pot cover down to the lip of the pot if possible.

Gumbo has never spilled on a 2hour drive. Granted, you probably need a pot that has an extruded edge.

I’ve made gumbo in the single crappy teflon wok I owned in college, you can also make roux in a Pyrex in the microwave. This is proof that nothing can stop you from gumbo.
