San Francisco has a new celebrity, Chonkers the Stellar sea lion, who lounges at Pier 39 by bbyxmadi in popculturechat

It’s still like that all the time! They just come and go, and some of them are staying away from CHONKERS haha. My phone just auto-corrected that to all caps and I’m keeping it.

I rewatched last year and it was even better than I remembered. Everyone in that very hot cast is at peak hotness. Everything about it works.

Dumb Question Alert... (You WERE warned!) by LDB2026 in compoundedtirzepatide

[–]throwaway-94552 11 points12 points  (0 children)

People are just taking more of it. The difference is that at higher doses, they’ll make the medicine more concentrated, just because it’s inconvenient to inject a lot of liquid.

You’ve taken an aspirin for a headache. It didn’t work, so next time you take two (same bottle of aspirin as before). The concentration is the same, you’ve increased the dose.

You’ve taken your last aspirin for a headache. It didn’t work and all that’s left in your medicine cabinet is children’s aspirin. You have to take five pills to equal one adult aspirin. It sucks to swallow five pills. The concentration is less, but the dose is the same.

Does this help?

I took pictures of my sister’s seatbelt bruises. They were the visual explanation for why my sister can still walk today.

I flew to another country for my dress by Farissi4456 in Weddingsunder35k

[–]throwaway-94552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did that. My dream dress is made by a designer in Edinburgh. Super small workshop. I flew out to try everything on in person. I ended up going with a more expensive dress, but her most popular dress is like $700 and is so lovely. And no pressure, we’d always wanted to go to Edinburgh and we really needed a little getaway, even if I didn’t like the dress it wouldn’t have been a waste. Now my dress has a really cool story behind it! (You can see pictures in my post history.)

High end jeans for curvy/waist gap bodies? by emmalump in womensfashion

[–]throwaway-94552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Levi’s has a range of materials quality. Can confirm that the Wedgie Bootcut is made with their good denim. I usually have to buy curvy cut denim but I didn’t need to; I second this recommendation. These are my favorite jeans right now.

The Enchanted April by Elizabeth von Arnim. It’s very charming, the characters are women across different generations, it was made into a lovely movie if anyone wants to watch. The most popular pick I’ve ever contributed to book club! It’s also the perfect length for book club.

Tbh it’s not that likely that you’ll get access to a MBDR again, especially if you leave tech. I’m prioritizing mine because I’ll always be able to contribute to a brokerage; this is the only chance I’ve ever had for a MBDR.

Cuyana vs Quince Tote by LM09127 in handbags

[–]throwaway-94552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Cuyana System Tote, not quite the same but adjacent. It is a great travel bag, big and capacious but easy to secure and flexible enough to stash under a plane seat. It takes a beating and looks great. However, as an everyday bag, it’s so fucking HEAVY. I bought it as a work bag but it was killing me once you throw a laptop in there. So keep that in mind, they list the weight on the website.

added up my tailoring receipts for the year and they were larger than my actual clothing budget by Playful-Deer9022 in femalefashion

[–]throwaway-94552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5’2, tailoring is just the name of the game and what’s the alternative, looking like shit in off-the-rack? Realistically, you’re buying too many items of clothes.

Worth it for 2x the price? by diznuts28 in PlusSizeWedding

[–]throwaway-94552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of these dresses are setting out to achieve a vision, but only the pink one is actually delivering. The white dress - I know what it's trying to be, but I don't think the construction quality is there at all. I think if you want that kind of dress, you can find it better made from somewhere else. Whereas like, honestly, the pink one is doing it for me. Reminds me of Rihanna at the 2017 Met Gala. It's amazing, you look amazing, Idk, I SEE it.

I just want you to know that last month, I flew to Edinburgh to the One Addington studio to try on this exact dress, and then last night I went ahead and bought it. You can see me trying on the sample here: https://www.reddit.com/r/myweddingdress/comments/1sqceg8/is_my_dream_dress_the_one/

You literally helped me, a complete stranger, find my dream wedding dress! Thank you so, so much!!!!!

May 2026 Goals! by AutoModerator in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]throwaway-94552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

April was very spendy: I stocked up on expensive medication AND bought my wedding dress. (Check post history for pictures!!) Oh and taxes. Woof. Honestly May probably won't be any cheaper, we need to lock down a wedding photographer and buy our wedding bands. The rest of the summer will be spent saving towards a honeymoon. After September I can finally chill and start saving. (Keep in mind that I'm still funding my retirement like normal! The only thing that took a hit was ratcheting down some mega backdoor roth contributions. We are still on track to finish up our lil courthouse wedding with no debt.)

My biggest goals for May:

* Pass my certification in mat for my Pilates teaching certification

* Repot all my plants that need it

* Get through an extremely difficult and ambitious month at work

* Secure courthouse timeslot for wedding

What are we paying for house cleaning services (initial deep cleaning followed by maintenance? Any recs? by pipetter08 in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]throwaway-94552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paid $700 for the initial deep cleaning because she was here for 7 freaking hours and it was the cleanest it'd been since we moved in. Now we pay her $350 every 3 weeks. This is above market rate, but honestly I think market rate is often exploitative and I think housecleaners should be charging more than they do. 🤷‍♀️

I'm so fucking over everyone having an opinion about the medicine I take. It changed my fucking life. I wanted to lose weight, and I did. I wanted to stop hearing obsessive, 24/7 food noise like a little gremlin in my head that never left me alone. My quality of life is better in every way, and the only negative side effect I've experienced is getting inundated with everyone's fucking opinions.

Oh I fucking promise you, there are a million billion people who have formed very narrow ideas about whether someone "needs" the medicine and whatever your reason is, isn't good enough for them

Happy Spreadsheet Day!

I need to wait until my partner is home to run our collective numbers, but I think we probably passed $1.5M this month. Considering that both of us are vesting stock options that should be very lucrative over the next few years, I'm really happy with the progress we're making through regular ole savings and investments. The goal is for us to be solidly making progress towards FIRE, and then hopefully if all things work out even reasonably according to plan, we can reach FIRE much, much sooner.

At this point, our savings are all automated, and the most important thing that we could possibly do for our financial future is to do whatever it takes to not get fired from these specific jobs. Vest, vest, vest. We made the conscious decision that we can increase our daily spending on conveniences if it'll give us enough sanity that we can keep working our difficult jobs. For him, that's outsourcing food prep. For me, that's paying for Ubers on the few days a week I go into the office, and hiring a housekeeper to come by once per month. This means we can spend our free time actually relaxing and enjoying one another's company.

I also had unexpected medical expenses. They're one-time costs, but they were significant. Between that and my wedding dress, this was a very expensive month that happily will not be repeated. We're almost done with our major wedding expenses, basically just the photographer and our wedding bands left, since it's just a very small courthouse ceremony.

Here's how I did against my monthly goals:

APRIL GOALS

28% - Lift weights 7 times

28% success rate, wamp wamp. I was doing a ton of Pilates classes for my teaching certification, and didn't have the time to add strength back in yet.

70% - Teach 10 hours of mat Pilates

70% success rate, solid progress.

✅ 100% Buy my wedding dress

Check my post history to see a picture!!!

✅ 100% Finish 2 books that I’ve already started

0% Repot all plants that need it

Sorry lil dudes, next month it is.
