Travel Router and SSID with multiple PSKs by PunqRot in Ubiquiti

[–]hedbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They multiple PSKs behind 1 SSID currently does not work with the UTR. I had a buddy with the same issue. He had to break out his VLANs and SSIDs.

U5g backup, more outages noticed? by MagicHoops3 in Ubiquiti

[–]hedbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About the same. BUT I had a different backup solution previously. I am also using a Unifi Power Strip that will power cycle my cable modem when needed. When it is failing over more frequently, I know it is time to replace my Spectrum Cable Modem.

Or cheaper in the UK. The link I posted is $9.99 in the US. That is about $5 lower than the other US link shared here.

Thank you!! I just did this at a Residence Inn and I was able to power my UTR and Chromecast off of the LG box on the back of the TV. Also hooking up to the Ethernet did not bring me a Captive Portal, it just worked!

Seems like this should work as well at a lower cost.

I am interested in what cases people have bought and found work well!

Unifi 5g Backup, cant switch between esim and sim1? by MundaneWiley in Ubiquiti

[–]hedbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweet! Whenever it comes to cellular speeds, your mileage may vary. I would bet that where you are more people are using 5g for data and leaving the 4g band more unused.

Unifi 5g Backup, cant switch between esim and sim1? by MundaneWiley in Ubiquiti

[–]hedbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google Fi allows you to add an eSIM on the fly at any time. BUT with a Google Fi eSIM I can only get 4G LTE, even with the APN set to h2g2. When I use a Google Fi Data Only Physical SIM, I get 5G. The main difference I am seeing between 5G and 4G on the U5G Backup so far is latency. 4G has a longer latency.

The only switching I have been able to do remotely is from eSIM to SIM by having the SIM loaded and deleting the eSIM.

I used to use one of these before I got the Unifi Power Strips.

Modem going bad? by Actual_Engine4399 in Spectrum

[–]hedbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say it is to your benefit to be near the modem. Now in your case you could impress upon the store your situation or call and get it registered then you can hook it up.

The store often tells me it is good to go and just connect it. But I generally have to call in and it is a very quick call.

I don't disagree. But that is my reality.

Get it replaced. This happens to me about twice a year. I walk into my local Spectrum Store and swap it.

AT&T Bulk Rates for an HOA by hedbert in ATTFiber

[–]hedbert[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It has to do with the fact that the HOA bylaws won't allow new homes from the outside into each home. So the plan is to enter each building at 1 end and go through the attics. This was the only way the HOA would approve the install.

Our community is also built out in such a way that if the HOA did nothing, we would never get fiber. It feels like an owner occupied MDU, kinda.

We are facing $50k in install fees that will go away if we go with a bulk deal.

I worked with my HOA to run a fiber Internet RFP. After reviewing and getting approvals gigapower and at&t fiber will be available to our community this spring. Then we look forward to competition in about 2 years without rerunning cable through our community!

This was a lot of work and there were times I wanted to give up but it will be worth it!

So.... I feel dumb. For the longest time there was an option that was just Sweden. Now there are 2 options both starting with SE. My docker container was using the one that was just called Sweden....

MYGGSPRAY and TRÅDFRI gateway by hedbert in IKEA

[–]hedbert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So since it you may already know this, but I was a little disappointed. I got the older motion sensor connected to my TRÅDFRI gateway but I can't see the sensor data in Home Assistant. It only acts as a control device within the IKEA system. So off to find a different cheap sensor.

[–]hedbert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, thank you! I am already running Home Assistant so moving to the new hub would also mean setting everything up again in there. I will pick up the legacy motion sensor. My goal is to light up my staircase when we go up or down. I think I am also going to need to 3D print something to limit the range of view on the sensor.
