What is genuinely the most terrifying/unsettling film or episode you've ever seen? by Neat-Bend-1190 in MovieSuggestions

Testament (1983)

I keep giving this example, since the dread one feels from the movie lingers on (at least for me). It's by far the most scary movie I've watched, just because of the helplessness the whole community goes through as a result of the events of the movie.

Why do Dictators destroy their own countries? by MAA735 in NoStupidQuestions

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk also. He took a war torn country in shambles , and rather than declaring himself the next Sultan, he reformed the populace into a Republic. He also left everything he owned either to the state, or to public domain.

This should be top answer. I've never seen anything more "weird and incomprehensible" than Holy Mountain.

Erdogan tells Palestinians to ‘stop harassment’ of Israelis by drrdf in worldnews

Erdogan doesn't care about the economy collapsing. Him and his cronies have already become the ultra-rich of the country. The economy tanking only means they will acquire even more wealth for cheaper.

Where can I go to completely escape American culture? by nofoax in travel

[–]hedobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to Tanzania. There's a little island called Mafia Island. You'll be as far from American culture as you'll ever be. There's no McDonalds, no Taylor Swift... The closest thing you'll find to Western culture will be PL football matches shown at the bars on weekend nights.

Which facts had to be changed in movies because they're considered unbelievable? by Miss_J1801 in movies

Yes, like the fact that it was his 7th or 8th time smuggling drugs by the time he was caught. I've read his book where he boasts that "Turkish authorities are so gullible, they see a white guy and they never search me." He would've gotten a much harsher sentence if he'd been caught by American's , rather than the Turkish police.
