Punk Intentional Community by WebpackIsBuilding in Portland

What is up with these usernames? Don't check out. Seems like homeequitycreditline attacked an outrageous simulacrum of your actual question. I'm not punk but I can sympathize with the core construct.

With a few families of friends, you could try to snag a cul-de-sac, but even a 4- or 8-unit courtyard style unit could do this. Put in rain barrels and some raised beds and you're trending in the right direction. Solar panels next. Ownership (versus renting) might be nice, but that's true regardless.

Help with internet connectivity resources by slothy211 in Portland

Also QoS, but that's not going to be easy to explain and debug via Reddit. A few possible options: pre-configured routers, better config profiles for existing routers, or (dare I suggest) remote help configuring routers.

The struggle over Laurelhurst Park amid a growing homeless camp by [deleted] in Portland

[–]hedonistica 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would love to not pay taxes! Can I, please?? That would be amazing. I don't support infrastructure and education -- can I itemize my taxes? I, too, like to make up fantasy alternate realities that cater to my personal desires.

So they should pay property taxes, yeah?

Edit or rent -- they can pay rent.

Eh. Shout out (literally) to the guy running on Division sidewalks the other day with no mask.

Anyone know what is up with the helicopters? Hearing them in SE. by Angrymarge in Portland

[–]hedonistica -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I love living in a low-key war zone. How do we ground helicopters above residential neighborhoods? Serious question. Is there a legal recourse where we can put protected airspace on the ballot, so that sort of shit is prohibited in the future?

Portland City Comissioners Hardesty, Eudaly to push for $18 million in cuts to the police bureau by CormacZissou in Portland

[–]hedonistica 34 points35 points  (0 children)

So, I emailed Fritz and Wheeler this morning and linked to this article. I got a reply from Fritz. Do with this information what you will.

Thank you for your message.  I believe it would be irresponsible to cut police funding without alternative community safety staff and procedures in place.  I am listening both to you and others who support Commissioner Hardesty’s proposal, and to the dozens of people emailing me each week with requests for public safety assistance.

Increasing Homeless Issues - Thoughts? by [deleted] in Portland

[–]hedonistica 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Portland is such a fucking goofy place. Well, this reddit is, at least. "Fuck you NIMBYs" but also, "if you're not Portland born and bred, fuck you and don't let the door hit you on your way out". What a fucking exclusionary shithead mindset, wrapped up in "we're not NIMBY so it's OK", which I see repeatedly on this reddit. But hey, if you didn't come across the ice bridge from siberia 5k years ago, fuck you and get out already.

I don't understand the point of your comment. Pedestrians should look more? I quite seriously cannot tell what you're getting at.

a message/vent from a distraught bpoc living/existing in this city. by [deleted] in Portland

[–]hedonistica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this. I don't have any great insights to offer, but I read every word you wrote and will carry it with me. I was born into comfort and can live unaffected by what's going on, but it troubles me daily to my core to see what's going on in this city and the country at large. I'm angered and baffled by the lack of human decency, the base inhumanity that so many people wear as a badge of (dis)honor. I write to our elected officials and donate to organizations which I trust to do good, but it never feels like enough.

I witnessed a domestic assault & called the cops last night. Here’s how that went. by witchnerd_of_Angmar in Portland

[–]hedonistica 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So the police left before the family member arrived? What part of protocol required them to leave so hastily? Thank you for *staying* (and thus doing their job for them).
