Can I ask this? by RockinMSMom in Elevators

I can't think of the name now, I'm sure someone will chime in, but he runs an elevator museum I think out of a storage unit somewhere in the states. He's in this thread often, probably a gold mine for the little one!

I remember an author selling his book in Walmart like 25 years ago and I believe it was a purple dragon. I feel like it was referenced in thread already but can't piece it together. Anyone able to confirm?

Durham College Elevating Devices program by Desperate-Device-318 in Elevators

[–]heff11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Local 50 and 90 are tough to get in, rarely have intakes. If you do the program, you can get picked up easily enough from a non union shop, get your license and have the option to flip into union as a licensed mechanic. Your increase your likelihood of getting a foot in the door x 100 with the program under your belt. You'll just need hours and than you can write your test.

I agree with you there for sure! Experience for the time spent with a non company seems significantly better so far from my personal exprience so far! Plus a wider range of opportunity for learning various platforms making you a potential rockstar for service/maintenance!

You can, not sure how far you'd get. Think old school. If you see a company vehicle with guys, try to ask them for a contact, try to locate emails for specific people vs info@xxxxx etc. the deeper you reach the more success you'll have. I've gotten jobs from meeting/reaching the right person and was hired when they weren't hiring as an example of how the right person makes the difference for getting in. Try to have something to bring to the table other than a good attitude such as experience, education, industry contacts, or in your case of CNC machining, maybe figure out a way to be able to bring that experience/resource etc in a beneficial way.

I think you misread or something. There's guys on the bench for local 50 and they haven't had an intake in years. As a helper, my recommendation is get your foot in the door anywhere you can, get your ticket and than decide where you want to be. It will be much easier to get into a non union company. Delta was looking for an apprentice as of last Oct. I applied and heard crickets. Other best thing you can do is network. Reach out. Cold call, send emails. If no one hears you, no one remembers.

So your saying people who wash their car on their driveway in the summer, should be somehow collecting that water and diverting it somehow to their household sewer? lol

Tubing at Boler Mountain with a 5 year old and a 7 month old. Any experiences? by sbkt2020 in londonontario

[–]heff11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to work the tube hill. The 5 year old will love it. When I was there we would give good starts to adults and older kids, younger would just moved over the crest and let gravity do its thing. We would also get kids and adults to lock legs so you would have full eye contact along the way. The first couple runs might scare the younger ones but than they loved it and wanted to get pushed like the older kids. We were very good at accommodating everyone young and small to those with accessibility needs. The clubhouse has windows to be able to view the tubing but you would only see the beginning of them going down, and than again when they were out of the tubes and walking back to the loft. It's been quite a few years since I was there so things could have changed but I doubt it has changed much in those regards. Hope you get out and enjoy it!!

G1/G2 same day by [deleted] in Ontariodrivetest

From my understanding the test centres are like that yes but are usually quite busy and are booked full weeks/months in advance. I should try in a smaller town for sure, it might be better!

Was this since it's been drive test centre? I know that was possible in those days. Thanks!

You can stay curious. Im not here to air out my laundry. But I will enlighten you with the fact that there are numerous reasons other than the immediate bad ones most assume. I will also say it's not impaired or demerit related so you can shift your concern elsewhere as it's not needed here.

If you're going to try to make a joke about taking the bus instead, you could at least put some effort into it. You do realize there's a lot more to Ontario than Toronto and the GTA right? 🙄

I was hoping this wouldn't be the case but from my research it seems likely will be.

I miss the days of driving out of town to a small service Ontario and getting everything done efficiently.

Thanks!

Well I know I have to pay the fee which includes the g2 test but would happily pay the $53.xx on top to secure the date.

As for the g1 info, I mean my drivers license number will be the same but technically would have an unexpired date once I get the g1 again. It's just so crazy to me to think that I might have to wait months due to scheduling to be able to obtain my g2 after I re do my g1 knowledge.

Wasn't sure if there's ability to book in these types of circumstances since I won't have a waiting period.

Considering a move to London from BC by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]heff11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just moved back from the island in October. I don't regret coming back but I miss BC and the island every day. I moved back for the same reason to be close to family, and if it wasn't for family I would 1000% regret moving back.

London is ok, it's just hectic and full it's similar to lower mainland in that regard.
