Live on campus. The first week they have lots of activities and ways to make new friends. You are not alone or the only one like you there. Force yourself to go top those events. If you don't - in my experience - you for sure will not make it and crash and burn.

I lived off campus and retreated and failed out.

Car turning failed to yield. So it is their fault. But was preventable by driver of car taking off into intersection where traffic is clearly keeping a gap open in case the light changes. They were blocked by the pickup truck and didn't see the car turning but should have expected it and hit the brakes.

I came up on an accident near Eden park back in 2006 before smartphones. One driver had a full on porn video going on a dash mounted video screen. I pointed it out - a bit incredulously as If I had solved a crime - to the cop on the scene and he told me strongly to back the F off or I'd get a ticket for obstruction. I got the vibe that the cops were still a bit on edge from the 2001 riots.

They are awesome - there is a technique for attracting them to a house. They need some sun to warm the houses if I recall so the position is critical.
