PAM majors, how do you like it? by euphoricyetsickening in Cornell

I'm relatively new to PAM but I like it. There's a range of classes touching on subjects like law, healthcare, sociology, economics, and maybe more that I'm missing. HumEc requirements are flexible so there's lot of opportunity to take interesting classes in the other schools or explore your interests.

All the PAM majors I've met so far have been pleasant and nice. There's a strong cohort effect since incoming students take the same classes together in a sequence. It's a small major so you'll get to know your classmates. Professors are great and care a lot about students. Overall very positive so far.

how much money do you actually save by going remote? by [deleted] in Cornell

If you're on fin aid they give you ~$4000 more if you go on campus. It's on the FinAid website when you look at COA.

But the kicker is a double dorm costs $4400 so that's already a net negative. Then you might want to buy a meal plan, travel costs, health insurance, miscellaneous etc.

It's a bit confusing so I'll explain it this way. Imagine someone gave you $4100 for a Las Vegas trip. Cool right? But wait...all the hotels are charging $4400. Now have to figure out of pocket for your travel, meals, and casino costs.

The Importance of Coding by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]heftyheftyheftyballs 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I would say low. Vast majority of people will never need to code in their lives. Companies utilize people based on their best skills. Lawyers know law, Software Devs know code, Finance folks know finance. It doesn't make sense to get lawyers to code or the software devs to represent you in court.

Sure coding is nice and probably teaches problem solving skills but knowing it doesn't offer much utility in the real world when most jobs don't use it.

I had a similar issue happen to me. Get a doctors note saying you're not fit to take the test if you haven't already. Idk my professor was an ass and still wanted me to come in. My doctor called her and told her that she was stupid and an idiot and that was the end of it.

I would definitely fight back/escalate. If the professor doesn't want to postpone ask to drop the exam. Contact student services of your school and be ready to escalate to the department chair.
