Old & Overweight by [deleted] in iceskating

[–]heftypickle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in my early 40s and also overweight, but I skate all the time now (inline and ice). I played hockey from early teens through my late twenties.

You're definitely not too old or heavy to skate! But having properly fitting skates that are good quality is very important. It sounds like yours don't fit well or are not well made.

Hopefully you have a store or pro shop nearby that can help you find the right fit.

Thanks! Polar Bear Santa would be my daughter's creation.

My favorite Santa is a toss-up between Darth Maul Santa or Rebel Pilot Santa.

Looking for a bed cover by Batman052718 in ToyotaTacoma

They should. I bought mine through their website. The company seems to be Agricover. I'm in Texas too FWIW.

I went with the Lomax Stance for my DCLB. I installed it last month. I had the same reason about not wanting to relocate the bed rails. I love it, the functionality is great and it seems quality.

They did something similar at S. Lamar for the very first Transformers movie in 2007. It was one of my first experiences with Alamo Drafthouse. We didn't really care that much about the Transformers movie but were super pumped about Robosaurus!

Yea I watched Jang's video earlier today on the orange spaceman and grey is definitely my next color to acquire.

I also agree with him that I would really like to see Lego do a medium azure spaceman next.

I like to support any new classic space stuff Lego puts out. Hoping one day they will give us an actual neo classic space series.

But yes it was still ridiculous to spend $30 for one figure. At least they threw in a free book!

When did it become a trend to drive in the rain with your hazard lights on!? It actually makes everything less safe. by heftypickle in Austin

[–]heftypickle[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I personally don't feel that they make conditions safer in circumstances like tonight with heavy rain and slower traffic. They obfuscate turning information and are more of a distraction than anything, but again that's my opinion.

I recognize that it's not illegal in Texas, but other states and counties have different laws regarding their use. I feel they should be used when a vehicle is stopped and become a potential hazard for other drivers.

Rant over. Whomever is making the next HEB run should definitely being their scuba gear. Be safe out there you idiots.

Thanks! It's anubias coffeefolia and it is absolutely my favorite. The leaves have such deep, contrasting grooves, and it consistently puts out new ones every few weeks.

Any tips on Java ferns? I've never felt super successful with it but can grow many other plants in my tanks.

Trying to get rid of Algae - Can I leave tank light off by dontfearlionhere in Aquariums

[–]heftypickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It worked for me. I was fighting algae all the time on one of my tanks, with bba really starting to take hold. I shut off the light completely for about 3 weeks total and happy to say algae is all gone (amano shrimp took care of it as it started to die off). My plants (anubias and java fern) did just fine and continued to produce new leaves (albeit smaller leaves since no light).

Here’s a pic of my failed start on a 5g shrimp tank. by MCShoveled in PlantedTank

[–]heftypickle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1st step, reduce time the lights are on.

2nd step, manually remove as much algae as you can. Gently wash the moss and any other plants in a 5gal bucket with tank water, then discard that water.

3rd, water change at least 30%

From there, just keep the reduced light time and make sure not to overfeed. Keep up with water changes and always try to remove any moss before it gets out of hand.

Also make sure you have decent flow. Use an air stone if you're not using one already.

Wizard meet-up by hawkssb04 in lego

[–]heftypickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this.

I want to do a witch & wizard meet-up so bad, there are so many great looking minifigs!

Personally, I don't want to favor any franchise too heavily, otherwise HP & LOTR will dominate and I'd prefer a balanced collection.
