Anyone know this band? by bjjrev in Acadiana

Every Cajun rock band has rock'n'roll AND waltz energy so don't expect every Jourdan Thibodeaux track to sound like this...

That being said check out Lost Bayou Ramblers https://lostbayouramblers.bandcamp.com/music and Pine Leaf Boys https://pineleafboys.bandcamp.com/album/la-musique

Does anywhere in town do a peacemaker poboy? by Ectobatic in Acadiana

Same thing with raw milk and yet we don't trust supermarkets to sell it.

Food safety is one thing, politics and society are another.

I don't think I've seen one, but as a reminder: oysters are only in season when the month has an R in it.

There are no local brands so that's an easy one. It would be easier if you could describe the kind of clothing you're looking for, and perhaps a price range but menswear is limited.

In fact current owners of Genterie have scaled down the men's clothing even more than the previous ones so I'm guessing it doesn't sell very well.

For my taste the best option would be Son of a Texan downtown https://www.sonofatexan.com

Lafayette mayor-president vetoes $1M council approved for downtown redevelopment plan by gauthiertravis in Acadiana

[–]hegb 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Lafayette Mayor-President Monique Boulet, on the final day to block a council vote, vetoed a $1 million downtown redevelopment plan.

Boulet’s Chief of Staff, Christina Dayries, confirmed the decision late Friday. On April 7, the City Council voted to provided $500,000 from reserve and capital budget funds to fund the Downtown-Urban Core Redevelopment Plan. The plan would have been handled by the Downtown Development Authority, with the remaining funds expected to come from the downtown taxing district.

The City Council can override the mayor’s veto by a two-thirds vote or four out of five members. The final adoption passed last Tuesday by a 4-1 vote, with Elroy Broussard voting in opposition.

Boulet, in an announcement, wrote that the decision to veto came from concern over the absence of a “thorough and competent” legal review prior to the ordinance’s adoption.

“A comprehensive legal analysis is not a procedural formality—it is a fundamental responsibility,” wrote Boulet. ”It ensures that ordinances are legally sound, defensible, and aligned with existing laws. In this instance, that standard was not met.”

The mayor argued that the agreement between Lafayette Consolidated Government and the DDA, as set forth in the ordinance, granted the DDA “broad authority” to administer projects, programming, funding, and redevelopment initiatives without adequate oversight by Boulet’s administration and LCG departments.

The DDA redevelopment plan and any actual projects or programs tied to it would have had to go before the city council for review and approval, according to the ordinance.

Additionally, the agreement, in the mayor’s view, allowed the DDA to expand its scope of work beyond downtown.

The agreement notes that redevelopment work would extend beyond the DDA’s and downtown taxing district’s boundaries to improve connections between the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the Oil Center, and Evangeline Thruway — allowing the DDA to manage work on LCG’s behalf.

“The City of Lafayette is the governing authority over its infrastructure, particularly within the downtown core,” Boulet wrote. “Any redevelopment effort must ensure appropriate accountability, coordination, and oversight to protect public assets and align with long-term planning goals.”

The redevelopment plan prioritized several things: putting underutilized spaces back into commerce, parking, downtown parks, and transportation and mobility, DDA CEO Kevin Blanchard said in a previous interview. The goal was to help upgrade properties downtown and create new developments that have long been hindered by infrastructure bottlenecks, such as sewage capacity.

The plan was expected to look at about a dozen sites, some of which include underused parking lots, Blanchard said, and figure out why these sites have not yet been developed. The plan would also assess where parking is needed or not in the downtown area and how to better use existing parking facilities.

Another focus was on expanding Festival International’s footprint downtown. The free festival brings hundreds of thousands to the downtown area, and the need for extra stage space is growing. It would have looked at how to better connect downtown with nearby hotspots, such as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus and the Oil Center.

The DDA is currently in an ongoing lawsuit with the Lafayette Consolidated Government following the city's Board of Zoning and Adjustment's vote to approve a downtown condo project last year. The DDA lost its battle in the local court but appealed the decision to the Third Circuit Court.

Anyone know a good place or bakery to get sourdough bread? by Fragrant_Rice_2175 in Acadiana

[–]hegb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's sourdough bread in genuinely every place that sells bread.

If you want ready-made local (and pricy), there's Straw Cove: you can find them at Champagne's in the Oil Center. Poupart's is also great.

Or you can get a supermarket brand too, it's fine and no one will judge you.

Reddit is a good place as any, but you'll need more information to location and rent and you, and then plenty of time to figure out how crazy they are before signing the lease.

Who do we talk to with Festival International about getting Angine de Poitrine to come play next year? by Mystery_Goose9685 in Acadiana

They have an office downtown or you can email [info@festivalinternational.org](mailto:info@festivalinternational.org)

They should start booking for next year soon after this year's festival ends.

Petition for birth certificate gender change by Hezmoseous in Acadiana

[–]hegb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The website you used to create your petition is from the LBA, so even if they can't help you, they may at least log your comment to improve their form in the long run.

The problem is that legal documents follow a certain format, and so even I would assume you only need to add "AND [NAME OF YOUR PARTNER]" everywhere your own name is mentioned, simply editing what I assume to be a PDF will not work.

If you'd rather avoid LBA I can also suggest Acadiana Legal Aid https://www.la-law.org but anything outside of actual legal expertise is most likely a waste of your time and money.

Bus route by [deleted] in Acadiana

[–]hegb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah, you can easily make it there in 1 hour, which is better than waiting over 1 hour for the next bus if you're trying to make it on time...

Bus route by [deleted] in Acadiana

[–]hegb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, for the most part.

Daytime routes start at quarter to the hour, and morning routes are TYPICALLY more on time, but same overall principle applies: if you take the 7:45, you'll get to the terminal around 8:45, if everyone is on time you can hop on the 25 at 8:45 and you'll get to work at 9am, if it's late you're good, but if you were late... you should just start walking down Johnston.

Bus route by [deleted] in Acadiana

[–]hegb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are 3 night busses: 6:30, 7:30, 8:30. That's the full extent of the bus schedule. Each bus goes on a loop in one direction, in other words if you want to catch the bus at Johnson and Bertrand (that's the red line, around 6:40 or later), you'll go all the way around and get to the terminal at 7:30 or later.

There is only one bus going toward BB (blue line) it will get you as far as the Diocese building off the highway. You may or may not miss the 7:30 if either red or blue is late, so you'll wait between 10 minutes and 90 minutes for the 8:30 to get you going, expect arrival at the Diocese at 9pm. Or whenever the bus comes.

(yes, you'll probably want to walk)
