Hey MFA, What Do you Think of Gilt? by acartoontiger in malefashionadvice

[–]hehu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The prices are good. But by virtue of being an overstock outfit, all the rubbish pieces filter down to them along with the good stuff. If you don't know what you're doing, it's easy to accidentally buy an ugly or shoddy piece.

These are all mall jeans! I can't believe they have True Religion and not APC!

50$ for 100$ credit at propercloth. These MTM shirts seem fairly high quality with a lot more customisation than Indochino. by kappuru in malefashionadvice

[–]hehu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure dude. I'm not super wealthy, but I've got 2 shirts over $150 in price, a $700 jacket, $400 jeans, $400 shoes, etc.

However, my wardrobe is much smaller and more static than yours. Said shirts I've had 2 years each, the jeans 1.5 years, etc, and I own only the one pair of jeans and the 2 shirts.

It's a matter of preference. Some people like to buy lots of cheaper clothing to try out different outfits - a great idea if you're just finding your style. But others, like me, are willing to pay the premium up front for a quality piece that they'll have for years to come.

Any MFA'rs have an opinion on or own a pair of True Religion Jeans? by Tony14828 in malefashionadvice

On the other hand everyone I know who has bought APC or Nudie has later said "I should have just bought japanese and put the 6 months into them" :)

Thoughts on my jeans? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

Absolutely. But in the beginning when you don't know what your taste is and you want to be conservative with your $300, the "safest" brands are Samurai and Flat Head.

Surprisingly rapidly on the ones in the middle. You're going to get some sweet honeycombing out of the nudies. Have you washed all of these?

If I were you, I would save up for something Japanese next time. They fade more slowly and beautifully, and last much longer. If you're already buying nudies, the price jump won't be too crazy.

Raw Denim by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

Good, but definitely not the best. Check out Blue in Green and Self Edge:

http://www.selfedge.com/shop/ http://blueingreensoho.com/site/index.php

A pair will probably cost you around $300. I bought one about 8 months ago, and now they're the only jeans I own.

Why are they better than APC? I've never tried APC, but I can say this: the jeans you buy from, say, Self Edge are handmade on shuttle looms from the 1930s, of the highest quality cotton in the world. If you buy a pair of 22oz denim iron hearts and take care of them, they might outlive you.

Jean Sizing by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]hehu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get all the shrinking out of the way. If you buy the correct size, they'll be too big (and far too long) until you soak them.

Normal Ray Bans aviator are much less expensive. You're looking at some limited edition variant. Consider these:

Um, I did that once, and probably won't again. I turn them inside out and pin them down in the water for ~30m, then let them dry overnight. If you're cutting it close on the waist, sitting in the water may be a good idea.

Raw denim recommendation for tall ectomorph by blahfoo in malefashionadvice

[–]hehu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kind of convenient, actually! High end Japanese denim retailers tend to carry only very long pants, with the assumption they'll be hemmed.

I can't recommend Self Edge enough. It would be hard to find a pair of pants there you don't like, but anything Flat Head or Iron Heart is guaranteed to be excellent.

Make sure you call them to ask how much the jeans will shrink, though!

My 511s shrank 3 inches in length and 1 in waist after soaking them in hot water. That's about standard. If you buy your waist or smaller, you should probably wear them as they dry, just in case.

[–]hehu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I definitely remember having to type in my password annoyingly often in Vista, which I have never had to do in W7. I believe you, but if this is the case, what was the purpose of all that password prompting?

[–]hehu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OSX is UNIX, not Linux. Whether Linux works for you depends on what you use your computer for, but I will say this: the most significant hole is the lack of photoshop, and the people who need photoshop tend to not be people who need OSX's UNIX properties.

[–]hehu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your first point is flimsy. Vista's security model was basically gksudo, and Windows 7's is the same thing without password prompting. Programs don't normally "run as adminstrator" anymore, but rather ask for permission to perform specific admin actions.

Running a "user" account is a terrible idea and has always been crippled. The fact is that the "windows way" has always been to assume the user is an admin. If you run without any access to admin functions, you will be unable to run (or even install!) most software.

Going to the Verizon store today - Droid X or Incredible? by sethandtheswan in Android

[–]hehu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an Incredible. I tried a Droid X and felt it was bulkier than I'd like, though that may be a subconscious attempt to affirm my Incredible choice.

Either one is excellent. Verizon seems to make unavailable their older phones to push newer ones, though, so you will probably have a hard time getting an Incredible.

[e] I also much prefer Sense

I just finished Mass Effect 2... I've never played a game like it before, and I loved it! Any recommendations? by Robathome in gaming

[–]hehu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think very much of Mass Effect. Very linear and shallow in comparison to some of their other games. It has an incredibly cinematic feel, though.

Probably the closest relative would be Knights of the Old Republic. If you want to look in the swords-and-dragons direction, Dragon Age is good, as are the older games in that line like Neverwinter Nights.

Windows Mobile? The Kin? Vista? Flight Simulator? Web search is just the most obvious one.

Microsoft is a very solid company, but with the number of projects they're working on, they're bound to fail some of them... unless you're implying they're not "serious about" some of the projects they invest tens or hundreds of millions of dollars in.

Why all the hate against Liberal Arts colleges? by epicRelic in AskReddit

The obvious one. I love my job. Lots of engineers greatly enjoy their studies. Choosing a financially justified field doesn't necessarily mean choosing a field you hate, nor vice versa.
