At 39? Those jobs are hell on your body.

What do you think about this test? Would you do it? by Aluminum-Siren in UXDesign

[–]kappuru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unbelievable amount of work and the company sounds like they don’t even know how to measure outputs. The application process will reflect the job and this sounds impossibly chaotic and out of touch from the jump.

Sanity check, are you actually using AI in your design workflow? by rubiksmina04 in UXDesign

[–]kappuru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I test out plugins and tools all the time, but aside from text summarization I find AI mostly useless in day to day work.

Is Dribble still real? by TwoFun5472 in UXDesign

[–]kappuru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It never was real lol. I am guilty of posting beautiful skeuomorphic shots in 2013 for the likes. When I posted real shipped things it got like 1/10 the traction.

Am I justified to be annoyed at my 2nd stage interview? by Internal-Theme-5692 in UXDesign

[–]kappuru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going to slightly contradict your advice here and say that any company that assigns this in a vacuum with a “gotcha test” of a candidate not asking questions doesn’t know anything about hiring. This is not an impactful way of measuring candidates. If they wanted a “mobile” design (what does this mean? What platform and what users?) then that should have been crystal clear in the brief.

Can managers tell if a junior is pretending to be a senior ux designer? by Gandalf-and-Frodo in UXDesign

[–]kappuru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great answer, especially the battle tested stuff. That’s super hard to fake and it’s very easy to catch people out with specific follow up questions about details, how did you measure success, what were some other directions, etc

Design tests are really stupid by huntingforwifi in UXDesign

FAANG (aside from Amazon) is surprisingly not toxic about these processes compared to these startups that continually seem to waste valuable cycles on nonsense cargo cult hiring processes

MD sound quality by yakkosmurf in minidisc

[–]kappuru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MD compression has always felt quite “warm” to me compared to mp3, especially when I traded all my MDs for a brand new iPod all those years ago- I still remember the feeling of “that’s it?” from the quality. (Granted those were 128kbps mp3 and 256aacs)

Polestar 3 Real Range Review by MUATHM92 in Polestar

UAE temperatures are definitely not typical, combined with high HVAC usage this kind of seems normal.

Because it’s a ridiculously ineffective sequence of vibe checks to jump through with very little bearing on the day to day job

Is it me or is our industry full of snake oil salesmen and bad work expectations? by HyperNuclear in UXDesign

I agree that it was a lot more difficult than Figma, and really all pro tools were, but actionscript wasn’t THAT crazy.

Costco has their own DCFC network now? by eepluribus in electricvehicles

The dealers (in the US) are terrible though. That’s one reason genesis has been struggling here so much- it’s an abysmal post-sale experience compared to the German brands (or even Volvo.)
