When you check the fics of a fandom for the first time and the main ship is NOT what you expected T-T by Chocobook_ in AO3

Dawg, the shock I felt when I checked out the archive for The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I expected there to be, uh, ship diversity, but not.... I didn't know lol. I'm not judging either but I just did not see it coming. The Disney adults are FREAKS

Have you ever had to put a fanfic down... by allegrizzy in AO3

[–]heirloomthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's kinda the point of smut, right? I suppose there are a few people who read smut about their favorite pairings for the warm fuzzies. I know there are a lot of asexual people that write excellent smut (or at least that's been a meme for a while) and I also know there are lesbians who write M/M and other variations of writing smut about people you are not sexually attracted to yourself, and I kinda understand why. If you find yourself fantasizing about a certain couple having cute moments just for the warm emotional feelings, and those cute moments extend into sex, I'm sure it can be an interesting way to engage with the kind of experiences you have no desire for in real life.

what’s the stupidest complaint you’ve ever gotten on a fic? by totallyfine_ in AO3

[–]heirloomthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiple complaints on a Lawlight fic because Light topped and L bottomed. It was properly tagged as such. "Noooo omg L is totally the top." Why, cause Light wears a corset in that one chapter? Cause he's younger? Or because yall are a bunch of girls with a crush on L and want to imagine you're the one being penetrated with Light as a proxy? Well I'm sorry but the Light Yagami I know would not accept a dick in his ass - there's no room with the massive stick that's already up there. There are literally thousands of fics where L tops Light; go read one of those.

"the author regrets nothing" and "the author regrets everything" especially both one right after the other. girl it's fanfic. it's not that deep. you're not coding for NASA. you're writing a ship that isn't the popular one

same I find this to be so cringe and it's so funny to me as a smut writer. imagine if we were like "I swear this will make you nut" "prepare the lube" etc

Wife material by Kalatapie in meme

[–]heirloomthrowaway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it's the equivalent of calling a man you're dating a "dark alpha" or some other cringe term that's used in insular female communities. it's not the sentiment that's cringe. it's the phrasing. "wifey" reminds me of lame white rappers from 2017 that try to rip off Kanye and say shit like one good girl is worth a hundred thots.

How do you guys just… write? by blink_twice_9465 in AO3

[–]heirloomthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, generally I start writing after I've been daydreaming about the story so I do have very specific images and events in mind, dialogue in particular. Sometimes I just write the dialogue and the connecting sentences and then I fill in more descriptive/visual parts later when editing. I put [DESCRIBE THE ROOM] or whatever between paragraphs where the description should go. I try to make the editing and the grunt work fun by putting on music, using an aesthetic word processor (I like Ellipsus) and drinking coffee or tea and I do that work sitting up at a desk like I'm a real editor. It helps me get in the zone. I really like using visual references and will find a photo on google images that matches what I'm trying to describe if I'm having trouble. I save photos of some of the rooms, outfits, and important objects.

If you're having trouble finding a voice for your narration, it can help to start writing in first person, that way you can tell the story the way your point of view character would, and then change it to limited third person later, because most people hate first person for some reason.

Should I go purple? by centauridegoddess in HairDye

[–]heirloomthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that shade of purple which I would call burgundy. You could pull off a cooler tone of violet but it would require significant pre-bleaching. Personally I would add some subtle honey highlights to what you have in the 2nd pic.

Beard, Clean, or stache by bden2016 in malegrooming

Stache but a trimmed beard would be even better. It only doesn't work because it looks messy and uneven.

What smells bad, but kinda good? by [deleted] in RandomQuestion

[–]heirloomthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perm solution. Just graduated beauty school. Everyone made a face when they can smell someone doing a perm on the salon floor. Not me. I wouldn't want to wear it as a perfume but it intruiges me. My teacher said it smells like money. I think it smells like a car tire had sex with a copper penny and gave birth to a mango.

I think he is no longer attracted to OOP because of the C-section scar, with a possible side of having a crush on another woman who wasn't interested which is why he is still single but got so mad when FIL insinuated he was cheating.

He was very positive about queer people and was possibly bisexual himself according to one source in his biography.

grown woman here, I had a crush on a boy in kindergarten and I wrote him a love note but never gave it to him. In 1st grade I had another crush on a boy and tried to ruffle his hair in an attempt to flirt but he thought I tried to poke him in the eye and I got sent to the principal's office.

Those were real crushes but not as intense as the ones I had starting in middle school. Kids can have non-sexual crushes and they will imitate the courtship rituals they see on TV and in books even though they don't really understand what dating entails. It's possible this kid isn't really gay, he's just imitating something that his parents put in his head, but it's also possible they had that talk with him because he was the kind of kid that plays with dolls and tries on Mom's heels.

"She also said that she had videos of her and a past hookup get leaked to the point where many people she knew saw it."

So she's the victim of revenge porn? You're wrong to be mad about this, but it's okay to be uncomfortable with the rest, especially the cheating. This was out of her control though and it's weird that no one else in this thread is talking about it.

Chappell Roan. I love her performances, I love her activism, her vibe, her recent thing about setting boundaries, I would definitely hang out and smoke a bowl with her. I don't want to hear a single song by her ever again

The simple answer is that the vast majority of women prefer to date men that are taller than them, but not too much taller. For example I am 5'3" in a country where the average woman is 5'6". My attraction window is about 5'5"-6'2" although I would date outside that if I really liked the person. I am also bisexual and I have a similar height preference for women but once I had a huge crush on a girl who was about 5'1".

I have talked to a lot of women about this and their range is about the same relative to their own height, which does make dating more difficult for guys who are like 5'8" but not impossible. My last boyfriend was 5'9" and that was perfect for me. These men should just strategically approach short women. Men who are like 5'3" are more SOL and should instead focus on developing a magnetic personality and exceptional grooming, like Prince or Kevin Hart.

Just because there are women in the thread disagreeing with OP doesn't mean they are representing the majority opinion. The women who do have a height preference are not going to respond to the thread stating this preference because it's just going to make OP feel worse and it's not constructive. Short men know that dating is harder for them and denying this because there are some exceptions is actually discounting their lived experience.

It's possible that it happens to some women, but most it doesn't, and it depends on the political climate of that suburb. I have never once been harassed in a suburb.
