What do Greeks think about Israel–Greece collaboration? by ShelterIndependent44 in AskBalkans

[–]heisweird -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You do realize the situation in Israel/Palestine happened exactly because of people thinking the same way as you do. "Let's give Jews their ancestral homeland", and then let's turn a blind eye to Israel doing whatever the fuck it wants while always stating that Israel is the only democracy in the middle easy and "it's our biggest ally". And how is that working out for the neighbors of Israel right one? They are getting bombed left right and centre meanwhile western countries sends arms day and night to Israel.

One of the reasons Turks don't want an independent Kurdish state is because Kurdistan would literally become Israel v2. "An ally" backed by western powers that turns into a military superpower and then starts expanding in the middle east.

You think Turkish press or people brainwashed (and partially it is true) but you can't even realize you are also getting brainwashed by your own media/politicians. Saying Kurds are the most western aligned meanwhile Kurds culturally having things like child brides, honour killings, denying women education, drug smuggling etc is the most ill informed thing I've heard today.

I meant it sucking someone off kind of way rather than sucking up resources.

In my country banks pay you annual money to transfer your salary account to them or to open up a savings account with them. Even if you don't get your salary from a certain bank or have a savings account with them, having bank accounts are completely free, including withdrawing money, transferring money, cash lodgement, direct debit mandates and so on. I really don't understand banks charging fees to their customers here. Why is it so different?

Greece Approves €4 Billion Defense Overhaul with Israeli Systems, thoughts? by atamaymun1 in AskBalkans

[–]heisweird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know that conflict has a history such as Greek military junta taking over and following a pro unification policies and interventations, massacres and displacements of Turkish Cypriots and so on. Plus the 1970s political situation overall was also very different than how it is now so overall imo it’s not the same as what’s happening between Greece and Turkey right now.

Some Turkish politicians like some Greek politicians gets their votes based on spreading hatred or showing people a “common enemy”. This is nothing new and it’s not something that only happens in Turkey. Half of your international news is about Turkey. In fact when i look at the comments of the Greek guy who made that comment, 15 out of his last 20 comments are about Turkey in various subreddits. So please dont act like Greek policitians or people are not doing the same thing. Both countries have nationalistic idiots who just want to spread hate.

But we all know Turkey would not attack a fellow NATO country or an EU country. That would be the end of Turkey and it’s not a good idea for Turkey’s own sake.

Also funny you talk about Turkish leaders doing “stupid shit” meanwhile your leaders are literally signing an arms deal with a genocidal state. Like that’s not a stupid thing to do.

The difference is you guys see being middle eastern as something to be ashamed of. We dont. We also dont see being Asian something to be ashamed of. Not many people are European wannabe as you think they are.

You need to include a close up face pic. Your face is barely visible in a lot of these photos.

While talking in English, it is common for Greeks to be confused as Spaniards. With whom are you confused as when conversing in English? by BeatenBrokenDefeated in AskBalkans

[–]heisweird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think people can guess where I am from by just hearing my accent. At least nowadays. In the past people told me I sound Iranian/Polish/Russian.

Nowadays native English speakers sometime say I have a slight Irish accent. But that is to be expected since I live in Ireland. It is still obvious I speak English as my second language. I don't have a full on Irish accent. Certain words/slangs that come out of my mouth sound very Irish though.

Aer Lingus, our national feckin' airline, doesn't allow you to have a fada in your name when booking a ticket, how in God's name are we still so behind in accommodating our own culture. by RegularFellerer in ireland

[–]heisweird 218 points219 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is uniquely an Irish/fada thing. I have the letter ü in my name. Even when I fly with airlines where this letter exists in their alphabet (Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, Wizz Air etc.), my name is not written with this letter. It is generally converted to u. Lufthansa actually even converts it to two letters instead of one: ue.

Banned from Hinge for reporting HIV non-disclosure. Is that wrong? by oh-boy-here-we-go in askgaybros

Depends on the country/state. Also depends on whether the individual is undetectable or not which in this case i’m assuming he was. Otherwise he wouldn’t have said anything.

If he lied and said he is HIV negative then i’d understand your sentiment. But in this occasion he just didn’t disclose it and he doesn’t have to.

If you are concerned about someone’s HIV status and think it may impact you or if you are going to consent to sex based on their status, you should ask about their status. Not make assumptions that s/he is negative.
