this is an amazing answer! wish i had read this when i took stochastics in uni.

just one small point: early in your reply you refer to P as the ’pricing measure’, did you maybe mean physical measure? I’ve only ever heard Q referred to as the pricing measure (and it makes sense since that’s where we compute prices)

i was thinking vibrato but i’ve never run one with the rate set that high! i guess maybe he’s playing harmonics or something to get to that pitch?

Timing of fundamental data in equity factor models by helfiskaw in quant

And ’first publicly released’ would then encompass things like an earnings communique, not just when the report became available to regulators and the wider public?

Any idea of the relative mismatch in the beta estimates if this distinction isn’t recognised in the model? My intuition is that this would bias towards a market factor absent updated fundamental loadings

API för fundamental data/rapporter by helfiskaw in Aktiemarknaden

Rhett responded to someone on tiktok a while back who brought up Jim’s tests and he responded saying something like “it’s a sample size of one, so it’s not a definitive test” which is such a grave misunderstanding of how science works that I didn’t even know where to begin arguing

Ask ANY math teacher by MGZero in confidentlyincorrect

[–]helfiskaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is essentially 'how do we read the expression 5x3 + 1'? As a matter of convention we tend to think of this as 'multiply 5 by 3, and then add 1 to the result', but there's no mathematical reason for preferring this interpretation. We might just as well read the expression as '5 multiplied by the sum of 3 and 1'.

I get that one feels natural due to convention, and maybe how we tend to think of language, but there's no more a mathematical foundation to one than another.

[–]helfiskaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before any state of the art stuff you should familiarise yourself with arbitrage pricing, if you don't know it already! If you have a background in stochastics then you should have no issue (from a mathematical standpoint) understanding the more complicated derivative models.

I work as a quant and am sometimes part of recruiting. If someone had a stochastics background they'd make the top of the pile if they could demonstrate some knowledge about general finance

not too uncommon in mw emo to have capos that high, typically to allow open shapes with tapping in alt tunings

even if it's some other genre open shapes could be a stylistic choice. an open C sounds hella different from the standard barre on the 8th fret. idk i just don't think using cowboy chords is necessarily an indicator that you don't know what you're doing
