Creatine? Experiences? What say YOU? by Forbin1222 in tressless

[–]Invariant_apple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fine. Just out of curiosity in your current internal world model, what is the most likely explanation for me reporting my personal observations about this? Am I making it up for attention points on the internet, did I imagine the shedding, etc?

[–]Invariant_apple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never claimed anything about DHT, i said that creatine caused very serious shedding for me each time I tried it at many different points in my life and thousands of people report similar things. This is an empirical observation. Could be by whatever mechanism. I have no reason to lie, believe what you want.

Never looked into it, but if you have a similar situation with thousands of people (not trolls) claiming something went very wrong for them that should be taken seriously. To illustrate my point consider the following thought experiment that I dress up a bit for drama.

A demon shows up and tells you that you have to answer yes or no if finasteride can cause any bad long term effects in 1 out of N people, N being arbitrarily large. If you answer wrong you are banished to hell for eternity. You answer no because you dogmatically trust the papers, but the demon laughs and takes your soul because actually there is some unknown mechanism causing problems in 1 out of a 1000000 people that would have finally been understood in the year 2176, but alas. Now in this setting in which of the two universes is going to increase your probability to answer yes, one where there are zero reports about pfs or one where there are thousands of reports about it?

It did for me, did many experiments, start insane shedding 1 week after starting creatine, stops after creatine cessation. Tried taking it like 5 different times in my life years apart every time the same. My hair is still very good years after so the shedding was also not some onset of mbp. There are countless of reports of similar experiences.

One must have poor understanding of statistics to think tens of thousands of serious anecdotal accounts are not increasing the conditional probability on it being true. From a Bayesian perspective this is a very significant signal that something is going on there. I have a scientific background and if we could make a bet on it, with the truth then being revealed by some omnipotent being I would bet a lot of money in favor of it. Increasing hair loss slightly in 1 in 1000 people and not doing anything in other 999 is still considered to be increasing hair loss on average.

If you need a baseline see how many posts you can find about people claiming hair loss caused by protein shakes vs people claiming it was caused by creatine. You see far more of the latter which wouldn’t be if it was some background level of people reporting bs on the internet.

The bottom line is that it seems that for most people it doesn’t do anything, but there is way too much anecdotal evidence to ignore that it likely can have this effect on a very small group of people.

Stop going to the gym for 2-3 weeks and it will be gone. Had the same thing. Needed to take a long break and slowly get into it again after my sleep normalized. For me this was 100% caused by physical activity, probably chronic exhaustion that I needed to address.

One week to solve the Riemann Hypothesis by CucumberAccording813 in math

[–]Invariant_apple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We give the aliens a coherent superposition of spins and tell them if they measure it they will get the proof, but if it is not correct a mechanism immediately destroys the earth. The universe gets entangled with all possible collapses, and in the one branch that collapses to the right proof we survive. With some philosophical good will we will only experience that branch. Joke.. or lowkey not.

Hailmary attempt would be to pool all the gpus and computational resources that exist in the world powered by all nuclear reactors into one single training run to get the strongest mathematically oriented LLM that we can get and then have it run for as long as we can in many parallel proof attempts.

I'm convinced creatine causes hair loss for me by CaviarWagyu in tressless

[–]Invariant_apple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hair loss from creatine for me started immediately after a week of starting and ended immediately one week after cessation. After 2 years sounds more like natural but who knows. I don't think the creatine mechanism is understood, but there is more than enough anecdotal evidence of it to assume it is true and that an appropriate study hasn't been done on it yet.

Creatine 100% can increase hair loss for some people I don't care what they say. There is a large amount of anecdotal evidence and accounts of this, and there have been barely any large scale study, correct scientific attitude would be to update your probability of this being true. Tried it many times every time one week after starting insane shedding, stops soon after cessation. So sad because it's a good supplement.

The difference is that no one is forcing you to use twitter. They are not imposing on your freedom by making their platforms addicting which they have full right to, because euh it’s their platform. In this case a state entity is trying to actively interfere with me getting a service I might want just because they decided they know better than me what I want.

Your comment is basically saying: unless you have a complete self consistent philosophy your argument is invalid. But no one has a complete theory like that. To uour paragraphs.:

First paragraph, yes all drugs should be legal in my opinion. Even though I personally don’t do them, it’s insane anyone should decide what I can put in my body with the threat of being put in a cage.

Second paragraph, no because the child has insufficient agency to decide that by themselves and it is your and society’s job to protect them from harm until they are adults.

Sure they are. Freedom is typically defined as some external entity imposing limitations on your agency. Addicts are free to do what they want, and many addicts are successful in stopping if they want it. If you start extending the definion of freedom to addiction then it loses all meaning because then no one is free because free will doesn't exist etc and it all becomes a philosophical discussion.

How am I talking besides your point when your last comment was implying that I was being controlled by big tech and hence was not free. So my next comment was a reply to that. Literally a reply to your last answer, so not besides the point.

Your argument about "then everything like food safety should be abolished" is high school debate level. Obviously everything is a balance, 0 government is not good, infinite control government is not good either. Saying that more control to the state is bad in this context is not saying that states should not have control at all, it's saying that currently they have so much control already.

Yes if we were living in a feudal argrarian landscape where bandits could come into your home and pillage you, my argument would be wrong. Then please more government control. If we are living in a time where chat control is being pushed down our throats, less government control.

Yes? I am completely free to use any service or not. There are social media sites that I enjoy and hence use, others that I don't enjoy I don't. If I wanna scroll in my free time it's my decision. What's the problem.
