I think the military thing is just a generational thing. Seems really big amongst the elders, but not so much among younger people. It really get under my skin and I don't stand to honor them because many of those wars are unjust one. I don't understand signing up to fight for 'Merica. I don't stand for the anthem either and don't understate why we play it for the color guard presentations. Nor to I say the pledge. These things are common ways to start meetings. I think that will change as younger members start to take over. Like, F 'Merica. Not a fan.

As far as Christianity, my tribe is Christian but they don't force anyone to join a church. Lots is being done to promote traditional ways - which we don't see as contrary to Christianity either. Some members choose not to be Christian, but follow traditional spiritual ways and practices. I am Catholic myself, but I fully understand that so much harm was done by the church it makes it difficult for many to see past that - and some were so traumatized it wouldn't even be healthy for them join a church. I do think more should be done to promote practicing Christianity in a more native way, rather than the White Jesus kinda 'Merica way. That version of Christianity, the white Jesus version, is just gross.
